Fantastic Tyres these. Paid around £260 for a full set not too long ago and they stick like a seagull to a chip in the rain and are just as great in the dry. I had Avon ZZ5's prior to these and Continental Contact Sport 3's before that and these beat both those hands down in all conditions.
My only very small gripe is that due to the tread pattern, stones have a habit of getting stuck in them, so it ends up sounding like you've got Michael bloody Flatley strapped to your bonnet if you pick up a stone on a motorway. Simple fix - turn up the radio.

These have fairly soft side walls, so good for ride comfort over potholes but make for unresponsive/soft/wallowy handling.

Not for me they don't (XL version) (Laguna GT Diesel), I have had Michelin Pilot Sport 3, Goodyear Eagle F1 on this car, these have a firmer sidewall and seem too grip as well as the others when pushed (175bhp) Not sure on mileage yet as only had 3 months. Nicer tread pattern too than the others I've had!)

the XL version has reinforced tyre walls, I have 19" ones myself the non XLs are good for motorway driving but XLs are great for any drives, and help stop kerb damage

I've just texted my friend, he paid the same money for fitting tire 17" in his old car and 20" in his new car. Price difference may be garage specific but I have never heard about charging more for bigger wheel. Maybe some "pimp my ride" 30" will be expensive but for everyday car the price should be the same.

Great tyre, I paid £300 for a full set at F1 a few months back and thought that was a steal. Obviously, excellent in the wet, good in the dry. XL version helps with the handling over the standard for smaller wheels.
Avoid if you drive a large heavy diesel, tend to wear quickly. My wife's car wore these to minimum in 5k miles on the front!

I've heard of a fee up 17" and then a surcharge for larger wheels.
That said I pay £5 per side at my local
I've had these XLs (but in 17") on for 2 summer seasons now on a not under powered rear wheel drive. Done about 35k on them no issues, may see me in to next summer too, if temperature drops soon for me to switch to my winters
Great grip and handling, in dry and wet have never had a moment of doubt on cornering etc

F1 business model - tyres at bargain basement price then sell the add-ons.
You will get a call to say your tyres have been fitted but we've noticed your wheel alignment (tracking) is out and requires attention. Could be £15. Could be £30. Depends which way the wind is blowing.
Not knocking them - I've used them 3 times now. Great price for good tyres.
Just politely say No/I'm on a tight budget/selling the car/live down a bumpy road/whatever to the add-on's.

Agreed, and I have the opposite to you, Fiat Panda 100hp, non XL. Fantastic tyre that allow me to throw the little car around (legally and safely of course) and surprise lots of more exotic machinery. Handling is very responsive and certainly not soft / wallowy!
They are very confidence inspiring in the wet too, though maybe the <1000kg of the Panda helps of course.

Rainsports are fantastic tyres, and significantly "undervalued" compared to most of the supposedly premium brands. I've had so many sets of expensive Michelins, Continentals, Pirellis and Yokohamas, and found them all sadly lacking in at least one key area, and often several. For actual, everyday, all-weathers and all-round use, Rainsports beat them all, and at a laughably low price. I had a set (on 15" wheels) on a supercharged Mk1 MX5 on a wet Oulton Park trackday, and they were supremely confidence-inspiring, and I have some now on my everyday tuned Forester S-Turbo, and they're just fantastic. If I'm being really picky, the wear rates are only marginally higher than 'usual', but the lower price and far better performance across such a wide range of road and weather conditions make these an absolute no-brainer.
Heat added, OP - great find!

Forgive my ignorance but I've not had 18" wheels for long. It looks as though my car takes 225/45/18.
I know from past experience that certain profiles are much cheaper than others - is 40 profile much more common than 45 at this size? I know 40 will fit but the ride will be worse (if that's at all possible in a Cooper S with sports suspension)
Had to pay £175 for a replacement Michelin Pilot Sport 3 a few months back so looking for a swap to non run-flats next time out.
pavel76 to Bossworld
30 Oct 151#41
Yep, 40 profile is much more common in this size... for example 205/60 R16 or 215/55 R16 tyres cost much more than 205/55 R16 - which is very popular size

Be warned, i'd tell your insurance company if you're going to fit Non runflat tyres to your mini.
The minis come with runflats as standard and if you then fit non runflats and have a blowout and crash, the insurance company will look at not paying out as you've put non standard tyres (for that car) on without telling them and they'll say you made the car more dangerous.
This may seem like a load of bull, but the exact thing happened to a friend of mine

Common misconception though summer tyres(what most UK drivers use all year) are dangerous (compared to winter tyres) below 7C which is the average temp here (Scotland) for half the year.

As long as you're talking Nexen N8000s, I'd wholeheartedly agree with this, some of the other Nexen models are pretty average at best. Really good for budget tyres - got them on my car now. Can't fault the performance but rolling resistance (fuel economy) isn't that great.

Any good prices for 255/35/18 on phone dont search properly.
Sky Insurance weren't bothered at all on my old R56 but they put a note on my file for me after I called to ask, so imagine it'll be the same for the Countryman I've got now. Cheers for the heads up though.
Thing that annoys me is that in 10 years of driving I'd never lost a tyre to damage, and then within the space of 12 months I lost a nearly new Dunlop RFT to a nail (none of the chains would offer a repair), and then a few weeks after getting the countryman, lost £170's worth of four month old RFT to a bulge.
The R56 ran so much better on non-RFT Falkens it was like a different car.
