Nothing too adventurous from me today as I'm feeling a bit ropey after too many Halloween drinks.
Cheeky deal I found whilst on the train home. I was looking at school holiday flights and put together this great trip from Birmingham to Tenerife for 2 weeks based on 2 adults and 2 children. Departing on 19th July returning on 2nd August.
This may not fit with everyone's school holiday dates but it's a great deal if they do. In Cheshire most schools break up on 15th July so ideal for people in the North West or Crewe/Staffs border.
The apartment is a 2 bed and is in Puerto de la Cruz and has decent Tripadvisor reviews. You can change this to if you want other options such as All Inclusive etc.
- Flights £281.92
- 2 Bed Apartment for 2 adults and 2 children £380 @ Travelrepublic
- Transfers £91.86 @ Hoppa using code VB21
Total £753.78/£188.45pp

Great price! I got all excited then as we are trying to book to go to Tenerife in the half term in May/June and can't find flights for less than £2500 for 4 adults and 2 kids!

would most money conscious people not just use the airport bus or a local bus ?
rachelandgromit to whizzkid1

Yes I am sure that this would be significantly cheaper but I guess for families they may not want the hassle of a bus then taxi? A hire car may also be similar price.

Why is resort hoppa so expensive for transfer there then? As general rule its around £5 each way per person

No idea, Alpharooms transfer was even more. I'm sure if you shop around you may be able to get cheaper. If you know of anywhere to get them cheaper please post here as sure there would be people that would find this info useful.

My children never break up that early (19th July) - usually around a week later, so no good for me I'm afraid.

You'll need to book your flights first with Monarch which the link should take you to, then your hotel with Alpharooms and finally your transfers. Have all threw sites open on tabs so you can book all the things at the same time to save buying one and then the other selling out. Check flights first as these will change prices depending how many people are looking!

I can't say but if it will let you book then I'd book them. I've heard of them but never used them.

Yes on the beach they work out to be £396 all in with 2 x 20kg bags - 2 adults+2 kids. Well worth taking a chance so if it were me it'd be booked immediately. I cannot see how they could wriggle out of it to be honest, and even if they did you'd know pretty soon so what has anybody got to lose?
Just book hotel separately anywhere (try Los Cristianos or Las Americas area - private taxi about 15 minutes = 25 euro each way) and make sure you get free cancellation - most online booking places offer free cancellation.
From Gatwick flights for same days (Norwegian/Easyjet) work out as £1,011 including 2 bags. Still not too bad.

And better to take sterling money and exchange there in the numerous shops - much better rate. Example: If the exchange rate here works out at 1.20 per pound, there it will be nearer 1.30. No passport or anything needed - just hand over cash to get euro cash. Much better.

Looks like monarch also offer 10Kg of hand luggage free. That did us 4 using Ryanair this year

I just posted an August Majorca deal (flying from Southampton) all inclusive if that helps anyone (you don't have to book the Ai hotel though, I would guess that you could get similar price to this if you went self catering though).

looks like Monarch had some really cheap flights from Brum this morning. was lucky enough to book flights for a family of four to Faro for 257 quid including baggage. worth the drive down from Manchester.
for anyone who managed to drop on and get flights who don't live near Brum airport, we got the Travelodge for 32 quid a night for a family room for the night before our early departure.

Puerto De La Cruz is the worst possible place on Tenerife IMHO for family holidays.
North Tenerife has quite different climate/weather to south part of the island (caused by big volcano in the middle of the island - Pico del Teide - which is also apparently the highest mountain in all Spain).
Been there this year (last week of July): 2 days were cloudy (there was even a small rain). Yes, still warm and you can even get a tan as UV still works, but it is not Africa as you might expected. Plus no real beach in PDLC (no sandy beach anyway - only small strips of black beaches). So we have had 27 C with cloudy sky whilst south of the island got 32 C with full Sun. On top of that all UK flights go to South Airport so there is 1 hour travel by taxi (if no traffic, depends on the arrival time) plus €160 round trip (through vivatransfers - others start from €200).
My advice - pay more for south side, get Sun and proper summer degrees and sandy beach (but then save on taxi and time - Costa Adeje 15min by taxi). North is not worth the savings for a family - if you want to explore historical sights, mountains, vineyards then yes, north is good. If you are looking for holidays in the Sun and sand then avoid.
Booked flights with on the beach, got an email to get in touch regarding booking on 0871 number , 10 minutes on hold to be told that monarch have pulled and repriced the flights to school holidays prices!

You refer to Santa Cruz (which is south - geographically it is more to the north than PDLC, however it is not overshadowed by Teide and it is in fact southern side of the island), my point was about Puerto de la Cruz. Playa Teresitas, just outside Santa Cruz - 46 km from my hotel in PDLC.
Thanks for the link - added to favs.

Surely if you had booked well before the Egypt situation, the flights would have been booked and e-tickets issued? Did you have your tickets??

no i went through the booking process and got an order confirmation and then they emailed a couple of days later to say they had cancelled my order

Personally I enjoyed north Tenerife as it's a lot less commercialised with better restaurants and service.
