Another great use of the word retro in a product name, for those old enough to remember the first microwaves they looked nothing like these.

I couldn't agree more. Not only that, but these ones 'up to 800w' look and work like those simple small £29.50 models that can be bought all over the place. Why pay £59 for one of these, when there are fully programmable
combi microwave/grill/conventional oven models available for the same price or less.

By retro I guess they mean they have given it a 50's/early 60's look.
I recall microwaves appearing when I was a kid in the 80's, but apparently they appeared earlier than that. According to wikipedia, the Amana microwave (circa 1967) was the first microwave to sit on a kitchen worktop and it looked more modern than the Swan!

For the styling, because they like it.
Me, I'm far too utilitarian for that.

Turn to 2 minutes, press go, ...ping
If it does anything more than that, or requires any more effort, then I am just not interested.

It's retro styling.... not 'old fashioned microwave look'. It looks like old radios and American dinner style radios, back before microwaves even existed. A lot of fridge freezers come with this look too so you can match with that.
If you have a specific decor or don't want your usual bland white/silver/black kitchen appliances it's a good option.
