Decent price but I don't understand why anyone would buy season passes without even knowing what you'll get.

I was a fan of 3 & NV. 4 not so much. It's not up to 2015 standards and they've simply rehashed the formula of FO3 & Skyrim.
The story is uninspired, the characters are dull and lack personality partly thanks to the awful animation and clunky cliché dialog. On that note dialog has been dumbed down to a point where your response options are vague but it doesn't matter because no matter your choice all the dialog leads to the same conclusion. The addition of building settlements is neat but unrewarding.
The only praise I have for the game 12 hours in is the guns feel great but overall I'm having a really hard time getting into it. I don't care about anything that is happening in the story because I have no connection to the characters. I hate the name Shaun. Why not use the voiced names of the main character for your child also? If I named him there would be more of a connection but hey I'm doing Bethesda's job for them.
The Witcher 3 set the standard for story and character development. MGSV set the standard for a working AI companion. FO4 misses the mark by some distance but it'll get GOTY regardless.

Obviously by my comment, I have never paid £60. Average of £40 for the game, £20 for season pass...just seems ridiculous. Okay well there you go, it is a crazy idea and £15 can be better spent. But that's for you to decide if it's worth it or not.

Been thinking of getting fallout 4 but rather have really people's reviews than those paid-for "reviews" on game sites.
What do we think to the game then people?

played it for about 6 straight hours today, loving it so far.
I was worried about graphics after reading negative forum posts about them, but I think they are pretty decent. admittedly it can look a little basic in places but I think it's the art style. just wait for your first storm they are terrifying and that's not easy emotion to render in a game.
I loved 3, and I already know this is going to be my game of the year if it keeps it up.

Never played a fallout game before. 2 hrs into this one, really enjoying it. But overwhelmed by size of possible places to go. Kinda takes open world to a level I've not normally played in games. (Casual Gamer)

Get Fallout 3 GOTY if you haven't already (can normally pick it up for around £5). If the graphics look last-gen download some mods to jazz it up. Fallout 4 feels very similar - if you like 3, you'll like 4.

When have you ever paid £60 for a game? I have never paid more than £45, it's a lot of money and a luxury product I've not got mega amounts of money and im careful with what games I buy, buying a season pass when you don't know what you are buying is a crazy idea, but it's a reputable company who in the past has given decent quality dlc and at £15 I don't think I would complain too much.
It's a choice at the end of the day.

Whether you think seasons passes are good or if you consider Bethesda games to be buggy, there is no doubt they work really hard for the main game they release. Fallout 4, is a quality game, with a deep living world, with tremendous detail.
DLC is not new, expansions have been around for a good couple of decades if not more, so why is it a problem now?
Anyways, £16 for a pass that normally retails at £25, and will no doubt have a lot of decent content... i wont be regretting my purchase any time soon.
Absolute steal, heat added.

But you're buying into something you have no knowledge about. A lucky dip of data. Each to their own. Some F3 expansions were well worth it...after I found out about their orientation.

Because £60 is a lot of money for a game...to me it is daft. You may have more money and less priorities, I guess. Season passes coming out along side the initial game release...how do they know that their future DLCs would be released...so season pass money wasted? Silly to me really.

You have obviously never seen Fallout DLC if you think they just "snip missions out". You get whole new areas, characters, voice acting, weapons armour and misc items, adding to about 6-8 hours of Story gameplay and much more with exploration. All this for (usually) £7.99 in the past, compared to CoD and the like which is just new maps for £12ish

Why is it daft, it is all relative if I feel a game is worth the money I can afford to pay then who is anybody to say that I'm daft?
I wouldn't buy Fifa because I don't think it's worth the money, fallout I would say is worth it.

Dannyrobbo
11 Nov 15#27
it does depend on the game really and I will make my choice on weather to buy based on that, this type of stuff is definitely not new expansion packs have been around forever which is what the fallout content via dlc generally is.
I think what you are getting at is the daft on disc stuff which I do agree with you about oh and destiny but that's another argument........not all dlc is created equal!!!

It:s the way things are. Companies need to make money to develop more games. No such things as free.

It depends on the game and the DLC. Street Fighter costumes definitely but a game with hundreds of hours content already? Not so much. Most of the previous fallout dlc has added entirely new story lines, areas and weapons, none of it has felt like content cut from the main game. It's obvious they put a lot of work into them so why shouldn't they get paid for it? Why do you deserve more content above what was shipped? DLC when done right is well worth paying for, not all companies abuse it.

They allow purchase of a pass, which in and of itself is nothing, the content is not ready on release...

I agree with that statement. However, the business strategy would be to make the entire game and snip certain missions to create the DLCs. I would prefer the developers to spend a few more months to complete the game, entirely.
Pretty much every game which comes out immediately releases the season pass. Convenient...

Having ideas for a game and turning them into reality are two different things entirely.
DLC allows the studio to add additional features/content that they could not manage to add into the base game in the time they are given. It also means that when a game reaches certification, the studio is less inclined to fire half the development team as they are no longer needed. What you get in the base game is usually completed months before it actually ships, so studios use these months (and the subsequent months) to develop additional content for those who want it. No one is making you buy it.
As for the idea of a DLC "season pass", that's analogous to a pre-order essentially, and it comes with the same warnings. So don't buy a season pass if you're not sure you actually want the content. However if you trust the studio to deliver what you are after, you can save some money. If you don't need it straight away, wait until it's reduced ina years time (or wait for a complete edition).

DLCs should be in the game already. My guess is that developers have the ideas and origination for the add ons before the games are released. It's planned out. It's sad, no wonder piracy is sky high.
