Was looking for USB plug sockets and came across theses on Screwfix
Were £14.99, now £12.00 and 2 for £18 (2 for 18 until 10th Jan 2016)
The 2 for 18 make them cheaper than most other online sources
No back box so mostly for retro fitting or you need to buy them separately
Cashback: Quidco 3%. TCB 3.14%

For me these things aren't great, its only 2 amps total across both usb ports , if both are being used its 1 amp per port and my phone takes ages to charge, much quicker just plugging the charger in an saving £12 quid

Every time someone posts these deals, there always is a debate whether this is safe or not.

To answer the question asked whenever these come up: yes, they do use power (albeit not a lot) all the time. There are also some concerns about the potential for overheating/fire.
Why not just use a (cheaper) plug-in charger which you can turn off?

I can't see why they can't design these only to come on then the switch is on or something, or when the usb is inserted, there are so many appliances now that just draw a vampire current, even if only 1 watt it adds up, 24hours a day etc.

Same price at wicks . They also to a silver 2 hang sub socket for 15 quid . If you have a my perks card you get an extra 20 % off
Bought 2 of these a while back @ the offer price of £18 .. So far so good.
Installed easily, no problems so far, charges oppress and iPhones well. Looks good, and does what it says. I've got a Smart Meter installed, and scrutinise my electric usage, which is currently shown in detailed 30 minute intervals - and have noticed no increase in power being drawn because of these.
Recommended = Yes

Bought these a while ago there very good and 1.1 amp will charge most things in just a few hours. I have had a flat iPad at midnight fully charged by 6am when I get up and my phone in the other plug charged as well! Hot from me!

They are two different things.
The Kitemark says it has been tested to the relevant standard by the BSI.
The CE logo means that the manufacturer claims it meets the relevant standards.

Not convinced , they tell you not to leave chargers on in case of fire hazard yet these are on all the time

I have plenty of these around the house - never had an issue, charge all our devices and leaves the sockets free.

wickes has the masterplug branded ones on two for £18
Are the USB PSUs fused inside these? I haven't seen any that are yet. Everything else you plug in its fused, inc chargers. You're relying on your ring breaker for protection, which should do the job hopefully, without trashing anything else plugged in. If you've an old fusebox, and your house earth is a bit crap....you might look like the coyote on roadrunner after some acme tnt has gone off....

I am having re-wiring done soon and my electrician has suggested this too. However, I like to know the ongoing cost beforehand. We will need 6 of this. If I say this is 2.1 amp amd I correct in saying that each socket will use 183.96 kwh per year as will be on constantly. (2.1 amp X 240 volt / 1000 = 0.504 kWh per day X 365 = 183.96 kWh)
If this is the case and if you take unit rate of 0.12p the cost to have each would be £22.08 (183.96 X 0.12). This looks a lot especially my electrician has proposed 6 in total.
Could someone please confirm? This might also help others to take into account when deciding where to have it or not.
