The Note 4 is metal apart from the back which is plastic.
The reason for that, I'm sure most of you will know, is to allow you to fit an 128GB microSD card or swap out the battery....killer features that most previous Note owners (judging by reactions on forums) couldn't do without.
In comparison the storage on the Note 5 is limited without paying a hefty premium and when the battery depletes/degrades...no swap out.
The Note 4 is plenty fast enough and is not gimped like the Note 5.

Note 5 has more powerful faster processor and 1GB extra Ram,sharper screen, better camera, lighter, much less gimmicky version of touchwiz and ofcourse much nicer design and feels alot more premium.it really feels amazing in hand.looks stunning in gold.
it's true lack of SD card and removable battery is disappoiting, but then what can you do.it is what it is.they give you 100GB free Microsoft cloud and battery can actually be replaced by Samsung if it ever needs to be replaced due to degrading.
You can't simply choose Note 4 over 5 only because it has removabke battery and SD reader.as a whole product and side by sude,Note 5 eats Note 4 alive performance, speed and design wise.it's the flagship model versus last year's model.

I've owned Note 4 and now upgraded to Note 5 and I could immediately feel the benefits of faster, more powerful processor, also the screen is definitely superior,so is the camera.
you are simply under estimating the hardware improvements.
battery can be replaced by samsung (or other specialist shops) in UNLIKELY case of degrading, after all these phones will become obsolete after 2 years and you will have to upgrade anyway.
the feel and design of the Note 5 also destroys Note 4...
I won't g back to 4 even if they pay me.it was awesome last year.not anymore.

The 'improvements' you mention are barely perceptible in reality. The lack of a card slot is a major drawback, though - for a great many people. And the inability to replace a failed battery is the difference between sorting the problem out for £12, and sorting it out for at least £100 - quite apart from the convenience of being able to slip a small battery into a pocket for an extra day's usage in an emergency.
Samsung assumed that people would just make the pointless 'upgrade' without thinking it through and realising that actually it's a downgrade. They were wrong.

lol downgrade? yeah if all you understand from tech an a smart phone is availabilty of an SD card to load with downloaded videos and a backup battery ti rum phone longer..
so what about much faster, more advanced processor of Note 5 that easily outperforms Note 4? don't care?
and how about the extra 1GB Ram that makes android run faster an allows much better multi tasking? no?
and what about sharper, nicer improved screen? still can't see the difference?
and what about improved camera, superb material that looks and feels 10x better?
you don't see these? and you don't care, since all that matters is the replaceable battery (lmao) and sd card slot!:D

Hardly - I've got another Note 4 on order as I write this. The wife's so impressed with mine that she wants one too. She does not, however, want the crippled Note 5 (which could still be ordered in if we wanted one) because in reality it's a downgrade.

19 Nov 15#35
thats a stupid idea..lol..Samsung didn't released Note 5 in Europe because their European marketing research revealed there is little demand for the stylus, instead people are more attracted to media consumption and aesthetics..hence why they released only the S6 Edge Plus.and of course they charge more for curved corners.and people who want bigger samsung phablet have no choice.
you friend are hurt somewhere down there, cause you don't have one and have to use the outdated model.

things that you say are still irrelevant to whether it should be discussed here or not.
so you are saying because the phone cannot be bought in carphone warehouse or other retail stores, then it shouldn't be mentioned here?
also regarding incompatibility with certain UK frequencies..there are few models and 920C is fully compatible with all uk networks.
and about warranty many of the vendors provide their own warranty.
not as convinient as 24 months European samsung warranty but it is there.
Bigsmoke825
9 Nov 15#33
Hardly irrelevant! it's not available to just to go buy in Carphone Warehouse or O2, Three etc or on a contract is it? and even if you do buy a import some dont support all the 4G frequencies of certain networks.
plus the warranty mindfield should it break?
So yes you can buy them but why you would with all the hassle is beyond me.

The comment's entirely relevant. Note 5 wasn't released in the UK because Samsung realised that releasing a downgraded phone into a pretty educated market such as the UK and pretending it's an upgrade might damage the brand. Note 5 is a complete irrelevance in the UK. It's inferior to Note 4 - what idiot would want to buy one?
Bigsmoke825
8 Nov 15#30
Hold on here let's face facts this is hot UK deals! and there's posts here about the Note 5? a phone Samsung didn't even feel worthy of releasing in the UK or Europe? says alot!

who cares if it was not launched in the UK,it's 2015,and there is internet, people can buy whatever they want not what some marketing geek dictates to them.
Note 5 is available to UK buyers via many vendors on eBay and other online websites,so your comment is irrelevant.

No ones saying Note 5 is a bad product, Samsung sacrificed functionality for looks, some people like it, some people don't, simple as that really.
I've just bought a Note Edge from elsewhere instead of going for the Note 5 because it gives me the functionality i require which the Note 5 doesn't have.

well sooner or later all phones will be without SD card...it's just a matter of time..started with Apple...then google and samsung followed..others will as well..not saying I defend lack of it..I'd personally want SD card myself..but this is where mobile phone market is heading...cloud.

Never understood the sd card slot fanboys. When I had my note 4 with 64gb card my device wasnt a 96gb phone. It was still a 32gb phone with the ability to store 64gb of music or pics. I needed a phone that can store over 32gb of apps and data within apps.
Problem with all these sd card slot phones are that they max out at 32gb or even worse 16gb. The SD card slot was almost useless to me. Only thing I used it for was a few mp3s and storing the photos I took.
Johnmcl7 to ukbondraider
7 Nov 15#18
I find 32GB plenty for the OS and apps while my 128GB card means I can store a decent chunk of music and videos, it's got a fantastic high resolution screen so I like to be able to take advantage of it. Plus I can easily move the content between devices and manage it without the phone with a high sped card reader. As far as I can tell the Note5/S6 Edge Plus is only available up to 64GB (most models seem to be only 32GB), even at 128GB it's already well behind microSD expansion despite the devices being new and will fall further behind over the life of the device.
I can fully understand why Samsung have gone with no microSD and no replaceable battery, it's great for them as it limits the life of the device but it does puzzle me when people defend it when the Note 5 gives nothing back for those losses - at least the Sony devices offer weather sealing for the loss of the replaceable battery.

Obviously more and more users are storing tons of photos, videos, audios, docs, emails, etc on their smartphones and for these users the SD card is essential. Also, more apps can now utilise SD card for storage and again these users cannot afford to move back to either the iPhone or SD-less phones! Where does my 48G of data and files go? Sure, if you just use your smartphone just as a phone, then you don't even need 16G! And, by the way, cloud storage is not accessible in most London buildings that I visit!
kuteguy to ukbondraider
8 Nov 15#27
If you are a very basic user then lack of microSD is not an issue. There is another segment of users that use their phone as a media device - so we have ebooks, mp3s, music video, and movies stored on our phone for the long transit home, gym, etc. There is obviously a demand for these microSDs cause now (or very soon) you can get 2TB cards.
These phone manufacturers have only one reason to remove microSD support and that is profitability. Buying higher storage size phones = major premium for additional storage; also storing your stuff on the cloud = cloud subscription and/or data charges. Having microSD support is simple and cheap enough and it satisfies both camps - those who need it and those who don't.
Samsung's decision to drop the support is just a way of copying what Apple do with iPhone and it is quite shameful in the Android world (yes I know the Nexus, etc phones don't support microSD either)

Personally I would not buy/take the Note 5 even if they gave it to me for free. For me, the lack of microSD support makes it a deal-breaker.
Every phone of mine from the windows phone days (10+ years ago?) had been a Samsung. But when they took away microSD support in S6 I jumped to another manufacturer and couldn't be happier with having the raw google experience rather than a customised one that Samsung offers. Win-Win

Which will be fine, of course (though the difference between 4 and 5 is marginal - having tried both) until the battery dies and you can't replace it. Sorry - I'm yet another one that would rather buy another Note 4 (I just have, for the wife) than the degraded Note 5.

....in a fleeting few months the Note 5 will be surpassed in performance like the Note 4 was.
Can I carry my 90Gb of music with me on the Note 5?
Say I'm not in reach of a power outlet when I'm travelling, what do I do with the Note 5 when it dies? I have 4 batteries for the Note 4?
I take 4 x 128GB microsd cards with me when travelling/camping; with my files and many Blu-ray ripped movies on them for entertainment. UK wide 4G is sparse when on the move and Cloud storage is not an option.
The Note 4 runs every app and game exceedingly well and is a bit special with its excellent adaptation which lends itself to flexibility when travelling and offers a modicum of independence from being a slave to the power outlet.
The Note 5 is indeed a step up over the year old Note 4 but, it does not run anything that the Note 4 can't run well.
The Note 5 for me is just not practical and never could be.
Hot deal by the way OP.

I sold my mint Note 4 6 months ago for £280. Buy used for better prices. A note 4 new should now indeed be around £300 especially as you can buy new note 5s for around £400
Would have bought this phone for this price a year ago but not now. I like how the edge is a separate screen unlike the S6 edge\edge plus but everything else is just old. Design, extra large size and build quality. Wish they would bring out an edge 2 in metal\glass. Couldnt give a monkeys about sd card slot or removable battery.
