Yes you can tell which models are made by Vestel as it says 'Assembled in Turkey" on the manufacturer's label on the back of the tv and on the box. Genuine Panasonics say made in Czech Republic. I have not seen any of their models made anywhere else. The only time to worry is if Vestel build a factory in the Czech Replublic lol.
Personally I don't think companies should be allowed to market goods that are not their own. It's misleading the customer. There will still be plenty of people out there who think they are getting a bargain top brand named tv whilst completely ignoring the Bush or Polaroid tv next to it which come from the same factory. Not everyone researches on the internet and people like my dad would just go and buy one of these not realising it isn't what it is claimed to be. He would buy it because it says Panasonic on the front. It's just wrong. If Panasonic cannot compete at the budget end of the market then they shouldn't bother to compete at all and stick to what they are good and profitable at. All they are doing is disrespecting their own brand by outsourcing the whole product. Can you imagine if companies like BMW outsourced their 1 series because it wasn't profitable for them to make any more and it was made by Chugga Chugga cars in China. It's no different. There would still be people out there who think they have a top brand at a bargain price and that is wrong. Unfortunately it's not illegal but it should be.

It was me who said the 55" CX400B 4k tv looked pretty good. It's not cheap though at £749.00 but the picture quality really was as good as the Samsung it was next to. For me though I think I would be buying the 700B at 50" for £50.00 more with 5 year warranty. Better processing rate than the 400B and 55" may look a bit big in my room.
@SPG123. Have a look for your self in Currys. As far as I know just the 300B and 400B are made in Turkey. It tells you both on the box and on the back of the set where the tv's are made. All of the genuine Panasonics I have seen are made in the Czech Republic. The 300B is a really bad tv. The 400B in 4k looked good to me. The 700b 50" at £799.00 looks a good tv if you really want 4k but for me it wouldn't be any good. I sit too far away from my 50" tv to get any benefit out of a 4k set and a 55" will look too big in my room (maybe). Eventually all sets will be 4k by default but looking at the graph posted on another post today there would be little point for me. 4k will be great for gaming or sat close to the set or even perhaps in the bedroom but in a living room with multi seating area around the perimeter of the room you need a big tv to benefit.

No that is a Panasonic end off as is all the other ones, this one is manufactured in Czech Republic if that's what you are bothered about, this is what needs avoiding. It is clear to people on this site that it is a certain range of TVs which are not 'legit' panasonics and that's up to them if they want to buy it or not. If your buying a to wholly on name then it's your own fault but as some have said that the questionable range are still a good tv

Technically it could be illegal all that needs to happen is consumer should complain to trading standards. Under the consumer protection from misleading marketing regulations 2008 if you are misled into making a transactional decision that you otherwise would not have done based on the material facts you were given its an offence. Equally where advertising misleads consumers or injures a competitor causing an economic decision which otherwise would not have been made then this is an offence under the business protection from misleading marketing regulations 2008. Trading standards can be contacted via citizens advice on 03454 040506. If people complain its likely product made under licence will be forced to make it clear to consumers what they are buying. Hope this helps.

@smartguy1. BMW did make a vehicle that was largely built by another firm. I recall seeing an article on top gear. It was the first version of the X3. It was utter pants. Built by a whole host of budget manufacturers.

I only used BMW as an example but the same result still applies. Apple have proved they can make remarkable products by outsourcing but it is how it's managed that counts. You can have the best materials from the best manufacturers but if the guy designing the software bring all the components together does a crap job then the product is crap. Unfortunately the company in Turkey is known for manufacturing cheap electronic goods for the budget market and isn't something I would want to associate my name with if I was the CEO of Panasonic, Samsung, Sony or LG. Sony cannot compete at the budget and small end of the market so it doesn't. I said I wouldn't say anymore in this thread that wasn't relevant to the post but also thought it rude not to answer.

I see, use it as double negative then, it does not at all
You are correct but this is called upconversion, it means that the small box in the centre you talking about is then automatically zoomed to fill the screen. So, you get a picture in a non native resolution making it worse and when you press info on the TV it will tell you 1080p or whatever is the native resolution of the material.
Upscaling does use the same principle but would properly use the screen to replicate the pixel 4times and use all the software power to give you a better picture ( still not as good as a proper 1080p screen in my opinion), when you press info it will tell you 3840x2160 instead.

All 4k TVs upscale all content to the screen resolution. Otherwise you would have a small box in the centre of the screen using only 1080* lines of pixels.

14 Nov 15#36
Upscaling to 4k, Panasonic does not include it on any of their TV's old or newer models. Not saying that a proper upscaling makes it better, it just helps a lot. Tv's without upscaler do give a poorer picture on standard and HD contents. I had this dispute with Panasonic and they say to buy a DVD/BD player with 4k upscaler. The problem is that does not exist the same for satellite or tv broadcast, can see how poorer is the picture on my expensive Panasonic compared to the cheap 4k Samsung I had last year. Anyway, I use my Panasonic for PC use only and it does do that very well at 4k, for the rest I do not want to make too many comments.

Sorry mate. Yours is a good post and no doubt for a remarkable television. It's just that we are all quite passionate about our televisions and how they are marketed, perform etc and it appears all of the top manufacturers have some skeletons in their cupboard. Unfortunately the association of said company (not wanting to mention the name again) with Panasonic is quite damning in my opinion for Panasonic's reputation to a point where every post for a Panny brings up the V word. You even mention it yourself. People need to know which models are a genuine Panasonic who are known for making excellent products. They need to know what they are buying. They also need to know about the Samsung and LG panel lotteries and also the IPS advertised LG's which come with VA panels and not IPS. Now that's very naughty. Maybe one day the company in Turkey will be making the best tv's that have excellence performance with a decent lifespan at a reasonable cost. That may have already started with the 4k 400b. Saw it in Currys and liked what I saw.
Sorry I have gone off on a tangent again but for all of us tv fans looking for or interested in a new tv hopefully they will read the comments, do their own research and make their mind up whether your post requires heat or not. I for one have shown heat as it looks to be a decent tv for the money. I agree, manufacturer's should not bother with the budget range if they can't make a profit and build their own...... however the Japanese have been hell bent on having their name on bargain through to high end models which they think is the right way to have a business presense.... they're stupidly thinking it's better to sell their brand than lose out to a rival, at the expense of possibly damaging their brand by using sub standard OEM's to make their TV's
I don't have a real problem with them using an OEM to build the product, after all, most laptops are built only by 4 OEM's, Apple make excellent products, or rather their OEM's do, and many other products have been badged for many many decades..... but the quality should be good and to an exacting standard. Sadly Vestel simply make a TV and Panasonic/Toshiba/Hitachi/Finlux/Bush etc name badge gets stuck onto it.

Check out the A300B in Currys. It has a Panasonic badge on the front but that's the only thing that is Panasonic. The television is made by Vestel in Turkey as are the 400 range. The 300 is terrible. It has really bad motion blur even when on the HD usb stick it's running on in the Currys store.
Vestel are known for making low value products such as Bush, Technika, Digihome, Luxor, Hitachi, JVC, Polaroid and Toshiba. Some of these names were quality manufacturers of electrical products 20 years ago but now they are made by Vestel as are the cheap end Panasonic range. I wouldn't thank anyone for a 300B but the CX400 4k I thought was quite a nice television. Obviously they are using a top panel in the one I saw in Currys but I would never ever buy any tv from Currys due to their shortcomings on warranties.
