That Mi line of products is pretty crazy. You might think this is the latest in a long line of jaw-droppingly inexpensive devices, and you’d be wrong. It’s at least the second-latest.
Like its forerunner the Mi Band, the 1S is compatible with both Android and iOS. It tracks heart rate, counts calories and steps, monitors your sleep, and will survive for up to half an hour under a meter of water if you try to drown it. All at a fraction the price of its similar competitors.
Pre-sale has begun and you may order it from multiple websites. I ordered 2 on gearbest

Just stumbled across this thread after buying the 1s of eBay a few weeks ago. It's OK I suppose, after a bit of research it sounds like the original miband with the coloured leds is the best and has got more of a following so better 'adapted' apps. Where's the best place to get one of these as I can't find any anywhere?
moneysavingkitten to steevieboy4u
3 Jan 16#141
I gave my 1s away. I found the coloured LEDs more useful than the heart rate function. I really missed the LEDs when I didn't have them. It wasn't very accurate and I'm not even sure what the point is of being able to take it randomly.
I got my coloured one from here, but they are no longer guaranteeing which one you will get, white or coloured :disappointed:
I used the same apps for 1 and 1s. It's not that the apps are bad, they are restricted by the hardware. The 1s band does less in some ways.

How long ago was yours shipped? Just wondering how long it took to come. Mine was only shipped on the 8th.
Seems like everyone is having the same problem :disappointed: Seems a bit pants
I've just been having a quick read now, since I don't know anything about these technologies and I am now curious. The first result google turned up was this:
However, they sell ECG sensors and it sounds like the information is heavily biased.
Then I came to this study, of which I can only read the abstract without paying for it. It suggests the exact opposite, proving that the conditions it is used in are consistent.
My experience of the EA Sport one was that it did react to changes in heart rate very quickly. How accurate it is I cannot tell, but it did seem to be responive. I did compare to it the monitor on my cross trainer which definitely doesn't use light, but I can't remember what the result was now  I don't think there was anything notable in it, the EA thing was probably a bit better. That gets strapped on your upper arm rather than your wrist.
If you need extreme accuracy, I am kind of doubting that you will get it from this. I just want to use it to get a rough idea of calories burnt.
Been playing with my older one today, was shaking my hand along to some music, as I do when I am by myself and realised I had added 500 steps to my step count  It would be nice if waving my hand around used the same amount of energy, but somehow I doubt it
There you go, there is an epic ramble for your ramble
brilly
19 Nov 151#108
just one of my usual rambling posts then
what i want is for my heart rate to be automatically tracked for the whole day, recording samples every 30s or so.
not sure this can do it as it seems to work from sort of a side effect of the heart rate which depends on the blood flow to the skin, but raising your arm above your head makes blood drain out of your arm or playing a sport with arm swings forces blood into the arms which may affect it.
might depend how often it samples though - if its really fast it can maybe get a reading in between beats as a baseline?

thanks for video squirt :stuck_out_tongue:, seems like HR function is useless though as its not a real time monitor
if i am wanting my HR chedked them i am probably a bit busy to activate the function at that time
That's how I learnt I have freakishly small arms though  That thing takes up the whole length of my forearm! Everyone else seems to be able get it on their wrist :S I never knew I was so small. There's only one hole left on the strap of my mi band too.
brilly
18 Nov 15#97

18 Nov 15#96
I wonder if that's the same thing they use in the heart rate band in EA sports active game? That has a flashing light in the band that looks pretty similar to this now I think about it actually. That is on a elastic velcro strap, so it does keep close to your skin. I guess I could test it as see how loosely you can wear it before it doesn't work.
The length of the silver bit looks the same as mine. It takes up nearly the whole width of my wrist, I suspect she is relatively small. But it hard to gauge the depth in comparison on the video. It doesn't show it on her wrist for very long. It doesn't look hugely different at any rate.

according to gearbest, it doesn't measure your pulse by movement from pulse point on wrist, it measures light absorption by your skin which changes with blood flow/hr (ppg - Photoplethysmography)

moneysavingkitten to brilly
18 Nov 15#88
My older one just arrived, seems quite slender actually. 1.2cm wide strap and the bit with the electronic is the same depth and about 3.5cm long.
No idea how tight it has to be for the heart rate to work, curious about that too. I can put this one on quite snuggly, but unsure if it will be annoying over time yet. Seems odd in the video she doesn't put the sesnor on the underside of her wrist, so if it works on top of your arm it must be quite sensitive? Will be tempted if this one works well.

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/articleDetails.jsp?arnumber=7032208&newsearch=true&queryText=Heart%20Rate%20Monitoring%20from%20Wrist-Type%20Photoplethysmographic%20.LB.PPG.RB.%20Signals%20During%20Intensive%20Physical%20Exercise
But it is paid for again. Was from this page: https://sites.google.com/site/researchbyzhang/ecgppg
Been playing with my older one today, was shaking my hand along to some music, as I do when I am by myself and realised I had added 500 steps to my step count  It would be nice if waving my hand around used the same amount of energy, but somehow I doubt it
There you go, there is an epic ramble for your ramble
what i want is for my heart rate to be automatically tracked for the whole day, recording samples every 30s or so.
not sure this can do it as it seems to work from sort of a side effect of the heart rate which depends on the blood flow to the skin, but raising your arm above your head makes blood drain out of your arm or playing a sport with arm swings forces blood into the arms which may affect it.
might depend how often it samples though - if its really fast it can maybe get a reading in between beats as a baseline?
On the product page it says:
Did you order before the 13th? It doesn't make it clear when they will be delivered.
Been trying to figure out what you mean for a while! I will try again after I've had some sleep
if i am wanting my HR chedked them i am probably a bit busy to activate the function at that time

That's how I learnt I have freakishly small arms though  That thing takes up the whole length of my forearm! Everyone else seems to be able get it on their wrist :S I never knew I was so small. There's only one hole left on the strap of my mi band too.
The length of the silver bit looks the same as mine. It takes up nearly the whole width of my wrist, I suspect she is relatively small. But it hard to gauge the depth in comparison on the video. It doesn't show it on her wrist for very long. It doesn't look hugely different at any rate.
still wonder how tight would need to be though and it definitely looks oddly thick on the girl in video.
do they have to be worn quite tightly for the HR monitoring?
No idea how tight it has to be for the heart rate to work, curious about that too. I can put this one on quite snuggly, but unsure if it will be annoying over time yet. Seems odd in the video she doesn't put the sesnor on the underside of her wrist, so if it works on top of your arm it must be quite sensitive? Will be tempted if this one works well.
Guess I have to sign up then, hope I don't get spammed.
Thanks
I wonder if you need to register first, bit relunctant to do this as want to go through Paypal.
The code only works for the first 100 each day at the designated time that use the code and then you can get the Mi Band Pulse/1S for $20 which is just under £14.
The next time that code will work is tomorrow at 6pm.
Its not accepting the code miband1s0116 - so is this the new correct price and not the sale price?
5pm on Sunday 15th
6pm on Monday 16th
7pm on Tuesday 17th
8pm on Wednesday 18th
9pm on Thursday 19th
3am and 4pm on Monday 23rd
Don't really fancy paying £3 more for this now, especially as we won't know how long it'll be until the pre-orders are fulfilled. Not in a rush for one though as I'm using the original one but I've had it a year now and after wearing it every day it is a little beat up.
Also assumed if you were tracking a run with the band that it would track the average heart rate for the run?
They are asking if we want the band available worldwide.
Though I won't be buying from GearBest, i've not heard the best of things (excuse the pun) I'd rather go with BangGood when they stock it!
Aren't all kneejerk reactions 'instant' by their nature?
Xiaomi Mi Smartband - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N73GPTM
please advise
The band is officially released Wed 11-11 in China, so it might be that another merchant (like Bang Good) will be able to dispatch and send earlier than GearBest.
I don't think they'll go much cheaper than maybe $18-19 after it launches (shipped to the UK) so might as well buy one in the presale!
EDIT:- Wow that's really cheap for HR monitoring functions. Heat added!
