Reduced again. At under £100, this seems like a good deal.

I believe that people are now getting over a day of battery life with recent updates.

To clarify, this is not the new Moto360 2. It is the original from last year.

This has to go scorching hot. The 360 is great. Classy minimalist styling, you can obviously change the face whenever you like and strap to metal/leather/rubber. Having been using one now for several months I can assure you they aren't a gimmick, and at £100 its a very nice watch by itself. Honestly would wholeheartedly recommend the Moto 360

+1. I've owned one since May. I wasn't really a watch wearer before, but this adds extra convenience so I wear it all the time. I love the fact that I can text or check if a message is important whilst carrying a load of stuff.

I've had mine for over a year and I don't even notice it. If it was such a bad thing they would have changed it in the 2nd gen.

As for battery, I'm a average to high user and get a day with a good 20% to spare. Only time I struggle is if I do a 10k run using it fully on displaying my pace, that kills it by about 6pm, but pop in on the charger for 10-15 mins and it's got more than enough to go well into the wee hours.

Highly recommend it.

The rectangular Apple Watch is more bezel than watch, so side by side, you might appreciate that smaller bit of tyre.
Maybe that is why the latest Apple ad lingers on the watch for barely 2 seconds.

Great Price, great watch. Had mine for a few months now, love the wireless charging base it comes with. Makes it into a cheeky bedside table clock.

I get 1.5 days before it needs a charge.

Edit - My only slight gripe is the strap it came with has already worn at the buckle, but the straps are replaceable I believe.

It's not great if I'm honest. I let someone try mine on an iPhone as they were thinking of buying an Android Wear watch, and to put it simply.. a LOT of features dont work, you cant load apps, you cant use the heart rate monitor properly, you cant talk to it, apps that do work on android (like whatsapp notifications), dont on iOS..

Overall.. Its a poor experience. Im amazed anything works and credit to google for getting that working in its iOS app, but without apple allowing access to APIs needed and app hook in's, its not worth it. Not even at this price.

How good are Google at honoring warranties? I'm waiting for the John Lewis one to come down in price. Electrical gadgets really do need good warranties and I'm not sure how Google would do on that department.
sambartle_theone to asdOK

I returned a nexus 4 five times.. no problems.
They do like to pre authorise an amount on your card (i.e. you semi-purchase a new device), then cross ship the replacement, which means you get the new before sending back the old.. which is handy, but it does mean a hold on the price on card whilst that happens (though they release it quickly once the old one gets back) - I never had a problem.

I assume that the same for all devices not just google made ones.. but it may not be.

The Flat Tire is a NON ISSUE. After a week you simply don't notice it. You do notice that you can see the watch outside and not be blinded inside though, which is the advantage of the flat tire. Its 100% something I would want on the Moto 360 3 as well. The flat tire is a GOOD THING.

The battery however is barely passable - If you charge in the morning, then go someplace for a night and forget the charger it will die during the night.

I don't use it a lot, today I just used normal notifications and light time checking (i didn't run ANY apps today that i can remember), but I do have tilt to wake, and ambient turned on (you know.. so it acts like a watch), and here's my battery report for today:

Its more a question of does map my ride work with Androidwear. I dont think this has GPS, I think its only the sony that does which works with ghostracer which syncs with strava. I think it also works with endomondo. This will work but only if you have your phone handy for GPS ( a bit like the iphone ) and use bluetooth which will run the battery down. I recommend the smartwatch 3, battery life is better too. Although I think the moto looks better.

This is a very good price. Just bought an Asus Zenwatch for £150 which I am very happy with (you get at least two days battery life with it if not 3) but this might have turned my head had the deal been about then.

BTW ambient mode *destroys* the battery life, I would suggest turning it off; it's not like you are looking at the watch face 24 hours a day.

Its a good deal if you can cope with the flat tyre - for me that IS a big issue. I'll stick with my G Watch Urbane with a full round display and 2 day battery life  it was twice the price though, so many people may be prepared to get used to the flat tyre to save £100!

Kinda amazed they didn't fix that flaw with the 2nd gen version of this - with the display off its easily the best looking Android Wear watch out there. Heat for the OP regardless as this is a great price for an Android Wear watch, regardless of whether I like the product myself.

I've had mine 2 years, and while I have banged it off things enough to have changed the glass screen protector i fitted 3 times from cracking or chipping it.. the black is still almost perfect, there is one tiny tiny scratch (i had to take it off and inspect it very close to check and see it), and it does look silver under it.. but the coating is pretty good from my experience.

The leather strap seems to be the more expensive option with some retailers. Certainly both John Lewis and Currys have the dark steel bracelet cheaper than the dark leather bracelet. At this price, you can buy a steel bracelet seperately for £20-30 and have both options for the same price, so can't really go wrong.
Gripper1963 to gresforddragon
11 Nov 15 #150
Managed to order the last one of these online at John Lewis. Just deciding if its worth the extra £30 for the steel band and the 2 years warranty you get with them.

10 Nov 15 #46
It's not a flaw for me. Its a very useful feature. I'd (as a moto 360 owner) rather have auto dimming (or brightness) as needed than the bottom couple of lines of the display which is almost pointless anyway because of the curving.. If they get rid of it in the Moto 360 3, I wouldnt buy it. (Ive already got my eyes on a moto 360 v2 when im next in the USA)

mcbamo
11 Nov 15 #63
I have had mine for about 4 months now and I was a little worried about all the comments about the 'flat tire' and the 'battery life'. I decided to take the plunge and get one after the price dropped (although not quite as good a price as this). I can honestly say that it was well worth the investment.

After the first few days (I did spend a lot of time playing with the watch and seeing what it could do etc) I can say that I get 2 days from the battery. I do take my watch off when I go to bed (always have done) and do charge it most days anyway. I normally have about 55% left at the end of the day. It does make a nice little clock at the side of the bed.

As for the 'flat tire' I do not notice it and no one has ever commented about the very small black strip at the bottom. It is hardly noticeable.

For this price I think that it is a steal.

I hate how they make the most important thing wait till the second version. The new one has the "always on" function where the runtime is about the same as the original. That's really important and now you need to buy the new one for such an important little gimmick
mikes1
11 Nov 15 #73
At least it looks like a watch rather then the stupid rectangular hunks from others (Samsung, Apple etc.). Stick a £6 SS band on it from eBay and it looks half presentable.

Not a bad try from Motorola for first generation. In my view a smart watch should be "always on" so that you don't need to shake your wrist (sometimes this doesn't work on the 360). However there is a compromise in terms of battery life.

Voice recognition is pretty good and the WhatsApp applications works first time and very accurately (albeit without punctuation as yet). So you can send a text by talking to the watch!

Any other useful Apps that anyone else uses (Any except the stupid, "How many steps have I walked today ones")?

Without the watch, I'd have to either go and grab the phone to have a look (which requires me to remember to do this after posting - my memory isn't great), or open Facebook in this browser in addition to the 30 other tabs I have open whilst looking for a new job.

1, The watch requires a phone host to do the work for it, other than play music that has been uploaded from a phone (via a pair of Bluetooth headphones the watch has no speaker) the watch cannot perform any other task other than very basic features if it isn't currently connected to its host phone.

2, Other than currently the Sony SW3 no Android Wear watch is capable of tracking via GPS as only the Sony possesses a GPS chip.

3, Any verbal commands or touches you give one other than manually swiping watch faces stored on the phone is all taken care of by the phone not the watch, it is no more than a fancy Bluetooth microphone for the apps running on your phone, any navigational instruction is again pushed from the phone to the watch + all the watch does is display the map you see (hopefully in the right orientation if you've set up its compass) and vibrate when the phone tells it to for direction information.

The watches simply lack the power of CPU, battery strength and input control to do any tracking themselves which in turn would be totally pointless for them to do when your phone is processing all the information for it in the 1st place.....

As for the comments about what Google, social media etc knows, well you agreed to it when you signed up and nothing is ever a free lunch fella....

not exactly true. latest 5.1.1 update implements wifi. when not connected to a phone it can connect to wireless and still receive email messages search Google etc. I forgot my phone on bonfire night and automatically connected to the cloud wifi and sent me new notifications. obviously a phone connection for text etc is desirable

I've had my Moto 360 for a year now, wear it every day. I hadnt previously worn a watch for about 15 years, basically since I got my first mobile phone... I wasnt sure if I'd use it much, but I wouldnt be without it now. Its great to glance at emails, texts and other notifications. Also handy for live football scores and the cool updates that Google Now gives you.

The battery life is pretty good now, but the Moto 360 doesnt have the best battery life so relies on Ambient Mode being off & you'll easily get through a whole day, possibly two. It'll still show the time as soon as you look at your wrist. The amount of watchfaces is awesome, 1000's to choose from.

For instance, I had to dress up for a wedding so I replaced my usual watchface (digital with weather info) to a Rolex...

It is connected to your phone over WiFi instead of Bluetooth via Googles cloud. You also have to be connected to a WiFi connection your phone knows in order for this to happen, it is no different really other than the connection method. It's the same as the way you can now connect to someone else's watch once you've set up an agreement to do so.

The leather strap is excellent, but it doesn't last particularly long.. I changed mine after about 4 months for a third party metal band (with some steelconnect M adapters, which are excellent and prevent back cracking issues with non-official straps) and it was already starting to look a little bit tatty/worn (which I know is part of the charm of leather, but I didnt really like it, and it used too get grubby when you cycle or jog)

I suspect the metal also adds some much needed weight (mine does), as the watch is far too light with the leather one.

Since the Steel Connect adapters alone are £35, plus the cost of a metal strap.. I'd say it is worth the extra £30 up front. You can also pick up the original leather strap if needed, finding the original metal used to be quite tricky in the UK.

John Lewis pricing is all over the place as well.. the leather is MORE on there, but the metal one was always the premium one by a fairly large margin.. so I'd say stick with it! (You'll notice the silver metal one is still 229 on John Lewis)

Come on guys, I understand peoples disappointment at the battery life but we are talking about one of the best (if not THE best) 1st gen smart watch for under £100! At this price point it's worth it just to sample the possibilities that are coming as this technology advances. If you try it and don't like it then you'll get most of your "investment" back by selling it on and probably only be £10-20 out of pocket (if that!).
Think back to when mobile phones used to last 7-10days between charges and yet now I'm living with a phone that I have to to charge every night. I accept this compromise because it has infinitely more functionality and possibilities than those phones of old.
I think possibly the weak point of the watch is the fact that you need the charging station to charge the watch so it's not possible to simply ask a mate for a usb charger or carry a battery pack with you like you can with your phone. If they had given it the possibility to charge from a standard usb cable as well then it would have helped alleviate battery anxiety.

I've been really tempted by these but can't decide if I will get the proper use being a IOS owner rather than android, can anybody confirm if this is worthwhile without another android device? I'd like to be able to swap watch faces etc, not to bothered about notifications. Thanks
sambartle_theone to shamrocky1986
12 Nov 15 #157
Its honestly NOT worth it with iOS.. 90% of functionality doesn't work. You can pick from the stock watch faces (and a couple you can load from the Android Wear iOS app), there are about 5 on the iOS store as well.. Tetris is one.. , but you CANT add most custom faces as they are downloaded to the phone first and sync across.. Since you cant load the app on the phone.. you cant get the faces.

I love my watch using with my Android.. But if I had iOS I wouldnt buy it. (I let a friend try it as they were tempted and while technically impressive that Google have managed to get as much working as they have without full API access to the device like they have on android - a huge amount is missing and without apple helping out it'll never be functionally equivalent).

You get about the same level of functionality on iOS with android wear as you do with cheap chinese bluetooth smart watches that cost 20 quid.

I got pulled in on the watch faces, and then did more research to find how limited that angle is right now on iOS.

So slightly regretting that I've ordered an Urbane.

There does appear to be sideloading options, but yet to delve in to see if it's worth the effort.

Of course there is hope Google will improve the iOS app over time as they clearly want to win some Phone owners over to their watches. It's just how quickly that happens and how much can be achieved with the current APIs available to 3rd parties.

I was considering a cheap Android tablet too. Could that pair with the watch temporarily to get apps on it, then pair back to the iPhone once ready?

I don't think it would work unfortunately.
To let someone try my watch with iOS I had to factory reset the watch (which deletes everything), and go through the setup process again (and do the same to pair it back to my android phone).. there doesn't seem to be a way to switch the registered device without resetting. (I believe this is a security thing in case someone steals the watch, they wont be able to join to their phone and then see your cached data)
uczmeg
12 Nov 15 #161
Thanks Sam.

Annoying, but understandable I guess.

I guess I need to investigate if side loading is worth the effort, or if a barely used Urbane goes back on the market...

Would consider an Apple watch if it actually looked like a watch. But to be honest love real watches too much and saw this as a 'cheap' way to check it out.

I'm seriously considering getting the 2nd Gen Moto 360 for my iPhone 6 as I love the design and have read that there are improvements to the screen and battery life. From the research I have carried out ( forums, youtube, etc) it seems as if the following can still be carried out on ios:

1. Watch faces - At least 20 different faces with an option to download a select few others
2. All notifications that appear on the phone puhed through - Although I appreciate you can only dismiss as appose to reply etc
3. Fitness monitoring using hear rate sensor
4. Music control - Apparently works with apple music
5. Google apps - Mail, Google Now, Search
6. Ability to see who is calling and reject if required

For me the above would just about the do the trick and hopefully the android wear app will improve over time.

Anyone had any direct experience of the above?

Thanks

1. Watch faces - At least 20 different faces with an option to download a select few others
Yes you get the ~15 original ones, a couple in the Google Android Wear app, and about 5 available on the iOS app store. They must tie into the Wear app somehow to get transferred, so I cant see why third party ones couldnt do the same if Google release the details of how that works on iOS.

2. All notifications that appear on the phone puhed through - Although I appreciate you can only dismiss as appose to reply etc
I'm not sure all do.. We couldn't get WhatApp ones to work when we tried (we only tried for about an hour mind in total). Yes you cant do much in terms of actioning the notifications.

3. Fitness monitoring using hear rate sensor
Again this didn't sync to the phone for us.. The on watch app works and reads heart rate, but it didnt sync. This might be something to do with rushing the setup though.

4. Music control - Apparently works with apple music
Seemed to work yes.

5. Good apps
Im not sure what you mean by good apps.. There didnt seem to be any apps on iOS store that synced to the watch - perhaps this has changed im not sure.

6. Ability to see who is calling and reject if required
Yep

Again this might have improved since I tried it a few months ago, but I certainly wouldn't be switching to iOS now I own this watch (not that id have switched anyway mind but)

In other words, I wouldn't waste the extra cash on a Moto 2 yet, see if you can pickup something cheap to try first. The value of a v1 will drop less than the loss on a v2 if you don't like it.

£99 for the 360 new is worth a punt, and thus used ones even cheaper. I got an Urbane for £130 off eBay that is barely used. Any higher than that I think I was just going to be too disappointed with the experience for now.

12 Nov 15 #166
quite simply, these are just mini-smart phones so in the same way a smart phone needs overnight charging so do these, yes the screen's smaller but so proportionaly is the battery. I've worn one over a year now and am quite happy putting it in its cradle beside the bed everynight, same as I do with my phone. Those watches with longer battery life use much more basic displays, the experience is far less satisfying. Just think of your smartwatch as freedom from keep checking your phone all day, insofar as the benefit of the watch was to save the hassle of looking for a clock

I've been moaned at in meetings for checking my watch-let alone my phone, I don't call or operate a hand held device when I'm driving (company rule) so I can't justify it on convenience grounds.

For convenience alone its a steal, i don't use any of the apps , i purely use it as a watch with notifications (with over 50 different faces) in my opinion worth the money on its own !, as well as you can see who's calling,( reject or answer) read texts , emails and all social notifications without getting the phone out of your pocket. I know this sounds like a small convenience........it isn't , you get used to not having to whilst driving , whilst out at night , whilst out for a meal , whilst sat in the office, whilst sat in home and your phones in the kitchen. Battery life is fine now , do not listen to the non owners. Oh and by a million miles the best looking smart watch ( apart from 360 gen 2 ). Paid 160 and still think i have a bargain.

I really should blog about what I have built up on my Moto 360 - but I have had mine since launch and love it!

The ability to just glance at the notifications I get is great - someone calling? I can either choose to answer or dismiss it without even looking at my phone in my pocket. Great to just "OK google" a question too. When this is integrated into Google Now, the context is pretty amazing (like getting traffic notifications before I leave work).

As for what I have built, using Tasker I have got full integration into my home automation. If I am sat at home, I get a notification on my watch when it's getting dark asking if I want the lights on - I can just tap on what lights I want to switch on. Same for at bedtime, it will turn off all the lights and the TV (using Harmony).
MARCUSW to maui
16 Nov 15 1 #205
I use Tasker a lot on my actual phone for automation and would be interested to know which Tasker app are you using on the Moto 360 ("AutoWear" or "WearTasker" ?).

I've installed both but haven't had a chance to play with them yet. "Wear Tasker" seems to be the simplest but seems to be more about simply having a button the watch to run a specific Tasker app on the phone. "AutoWear" seems much more integrated and allows creating of screens on the watch itself so more bi-directional.

All the lights in my house run off X10 dimmer units and I use a HomeVision unit with NetIO for general automation. What lighting system are you using in your house?

Update from an iOS user...

Played with my Urbane over the weekend and in general I could live with the reduced iOS functinality. Notifications and music control are enough to make it useful.

However, the deal breaker for me is the lack of watch faces. The Urbane would look amazing with the mass that are available if you are on Android, but none of the supplied ones interest me. Just give me a way to have Pujie black would do.

So I think I'll put it up for sale soon.

Side by side with the 360 the Urbane wins for me. Yes costs more and the screen is a little smaller, but the P-OLED screen is much nicer and the always on with no flat tyre is big win.

Despite the need to get rid of this one and wait a little longer for Android Wear to get better on iOS or Apple to create a round watch. I'm surprised I'm more interested in smartwatches than I thought. The tech is getting there and the fact we can have ones that look like real watches is huge.

That way it simply shows in the notifications on my watch or phone, and you can have action buttons which are accessible by swiping across on wear. as for HA - I use Telldus as the network connected piece, and Nexa / Home Easy stuff for lighting. it's all 433mhz based and available at Class Ohlson

Mmmm... interesting... I hadn't thought of using AutoNotifcation (I already have that installed as well). Sometimes the simple solutions aren't the most obvious ones. Thanks

If you're using the 433 versions I assume they are the "older" versions not the ZWave version ?
I'm not keen on wireless as a solution as in my experience it's a pig of a job to try and diagnose WHEN something goes wrong. Hardwired is my preferred option wherever possible. Having said that I have looked at ZWave in the past and am currently contemplating buying the Heat Genius system to automate our heating.

Telldus is "nice"! There is a couple niggles with it... The key thing to remember is it's 1-way, there is no response from the device you are switching to confirm it followed out the command. Tellsdus does "sniff" the commands from other devices / remotes however to help with that. One of the up sides is that Telldus have a wide range of support for 433Mhz based stuff, so can can interchange brands without any major overhaul.
The alternative for wireless solutions is Z-Wave - but it's more expensive.

I have these switches: HERE and use the Nexa stuff from Clas Ohlson for sockets etc. The network "controlling" device, is a Tellstick Net. It's all web based, so needs a permanent connection to the Internet.

on my phone, I have the Remotestick App, which also has a Tasker plugin so you can easily setup actions. The Auto Notify is basically a customisable Notification pop-up. Mixed in with Twilight Tasker plugin to trigger only at dusk
maui
17 Nov 15 #219
Correct - It is only 1-way, and sometimes can act up. X10 is just too dated IMHO, and Z-Wave more than I would like to spend. It kinda works as a balance - it seems pretty reliable enough for me. I also use the Telldus stuff for automating a temperature activated heat spot in my terrarium, which is pretty flawless, so trust it enough.

Yeah X10 is pretty old tech (1970's) and not always that reliable but it works 99% of the time for me. UK X10 (unlike the USA models) is also pretty much one way as well i.e. no status updates. When I installed it in our house (20+ LD11 units) there was no ZWave around so X10 was the cheapest available automation route. The Nexa stuff does seem very cheap in comparison but not running off mains voltage is a bit of a stumbling block for me. I'm reluctant to have all my light switches reliant on batteries which is also one of the reasons I'm still pondering with HeatGenius as all the TRVs and PIR's run off batteries as well.

No batteries on any of the stuff I have.. It's all mains powered. The only thing that has batteries in it is the remote control, or if you want the passive switches on walls. All the sockets, switches etc are mains powered. The HomeEasy stuff actually has some good instructions downloadable online.

Sorry my bad.. When I checked on the site the wall switches all looked to be battery powered. I'll take another look

Does anybody know if a free app to transfer watch faces to the moto? I have the free watchmaker app but it keeps asking you to buy the premium app when trying to set watchmaker. Cheers

Facer is pretty good, but the power of some of the stock faces are awesome!

I went for the £130 dark chrome with metal band from PC World as I couldnt be bothered with buying a £15 strap then the hassle of fitting it etc. Plus its perfectly colour matched to the body of the watch.

Anyway, the actual watch is **** poor. Seriously, dont even bother, save your money. The LG G Watch R I had, running OLDER software, not the nice 5.1 update, ran so much smoother than the latest 5.1 on the Moto 360.

The UI constantly stutters and hangs, the wake up gestures are finnicky as hell and only work when they want to half the time. Oh and the battery life, don't even get me started. I dont have google now or anything like that enabled, use it to skip the odd music track or the odd "ok google" command during the day, but otherwise it's there for timekeeping and for the very few notifications I actually receive during the day (5 or so emails, couple of texts, few fb messenger notifications, EXTREMELY light usage). It was off the charger at 7:30am, and 6 hours later its sitting at 52%. That's 8% an hour for what is 99% in standby usage.

Meanwhile the old G Watch R, WITH google now, WITH ambient display on (keeps the display on all of the time), used to get me through 2 days. That included a lot of music navigation, responding to texts and fb messages, swiping through loads of google now cards, etc.

Who knows, maybe I have a faulty battery. Either way, you'd be best served picking up a G Watch R or Urbane on eBay or something on the cheap. Motorola make very nice hardware these days, but they are right at the bottom when it comes to software optimisation and battery life (that goes for their phones too).

Are you sure it updated correctly and if so have you Factory reset it after it upgraded itself?
Battery life on the Moto360 is never going to match LG, it's a smaller battery, LCD screen (uses more power) and uses an old CPU that is not very fast or efficient BUT it's far cheaper at £99!. These points are nothing new but the point is that it should easily be capable of lasting a day (24hrs) if you turn off ambient mode (i.e. the watch is not always on). After upgrading mine seems to use approx. 3.5% per hour and I get between 24hr and 34hrs out of it (although I actually put it on charge every night so as long as it lasts 16hrs it's fine for me). Battery use does vary by how many times you turn it on (i.e. look at it) and how many notifications you receive etc but also if apps auto update themselves (via GooglePlay on you phone) then you'll see more battery usage during those times. One big drain on the battery for me was driving. Every time I changed gear on my 2-3hr commute the watch would turn on thinking I was looking at it. Now I just double tap the button to put Cinema mode on when I get in the car. My phone still vibrates when I get a notification and I just press the button on the watch to view it (hen safe to do so). Two taps of the button when I get out of the car and I then get notifications on the watch. This really did make a massive difference to my battery usage (probably 6-8hrs difference).

I don't notice any screen stutter or hangs on mine. Have you made sure that the Android wear app is up to date on your phone ?

I would really recommend doing a factory reset on the phone . Before resetting make sure you remove the watch from the list of connected devices on android wear app and then afterwards you simply go through the repairing process and all the apps will be repushed to it from Android Wear App.

My MotoG phone has probably the best battery life of any low end Android phone I've had. Again it really does depend on what you do and where you are (i.e. signal strength) during the week when my phone is at work with me (low signal area) I get a days use (18-24hrs) but at weekends when I'm at home with my phone it can easily last 2 days. This is with GPS/Bluetooth/WiFi all turned on permanently, with previous phones I'd have had to keep these services turned off in order to eek out a days battery use.

I did a fresh install of marshmallow on my 6p after setting up the watch. The watch had to be factory reset before connecting to the phone on a new install. Many factory resets on the watch since it was updated. Latest software on everything.

Thought it could have been the custom watch face, but tried another reset and no luck. Still the same awful battery.

I've left it idling on my desk next to my phone all afternoon. Still dropping 10% an hour at least. Doing nothing.

I've read up on plenty of XDA threads full of people getting a day easily, even with ambient mode on. Really don't know what's wrong.

And since google are so brilliant and removed the battery stats from android wear, I cant even self diagnose the draining issue.

Probably a sensor going crazy for some reason, or it is just a faulty battery. Either way I can just return and move on if it can't be fixed.
striker33 to MARCUSW
20 Nov 15 #231
Could very well be a marshmallow issue, since so few are actually on it. Less people to give feedback. 10% is with everything off, including ambient yes. I dread to think what it'd be like with ambient mode on.

Strangely my phone battery has remained excellent, where as the main issues with android wear and marshmallow were actually to do with phone battery being drained excessively.

I factory reset it, gave it a basic setup, then disconnected it completely from my phone, still gets the same drain.

Always the stock face on too. Also the watch is always warm to touch on the back of it, even when its sat on a desk for hours in a cold room. Really don't understand what the issue is.

I know it won't get g watch r levels of battery life, but I'm fine with that as I don't sleep with a watch on. The problem is getting the thing to last half a day, let alone morning to night.

19 Nov 15 #229
Just as I posted that it decided to kill itself and shut off at 13%. Awesome watch.
MARCUSW
19 Nov 15 #230
I'm on KitKat still so it may be a Marshmallow issue? 10% per hour seems very excessive. Is this with ambient mode OFF ?
Have you tried just running one of the stock clock faces, I've heard the fancier non stock ones can be a battery drain.
As for battery stats I installed "wear battery stats" to keep an eye on battery usage ; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.npi.wearbatterystats&hl=en_GB
aleem
20 Nov 15 #232
Definitely a problem there. It shouldn't be warm all the time. Either something is keeping the processor awake/busy all the time or it's a hardware fault.

I did another factory reset. Completely wiped the Android Wear app from my phone, setup fresh again.

Before setting up I drained the thing a couple of times (not completely, for obvious reasons), to get a good few charge cycles for calibration. I figured the last possible cause could be that it's been sitting in a C/PCW factory for months on end, considering it was completely dead out of the box when I got it. Each charge was overnight for around 12 hours. I know it makes no difference since it stops automatically anyway at 100%, but still, doesnt hurt.

Well yeah, all is well now. It drains 3-4% an hour when using for notifications, voice search for music/replying to texts/fb messenger, and of course checking the time :man: Without any notifications and no otheruses, its around 2%. Everything is great now! Yes its still a little slow and stuttery at times, but old tech, it happens. I could probably get a full day easy, even with ambient and wrist gestures on.

Yeah I have. Always have it off. Shame the moto apps still run though.

I'd factory reset a couple times before you'd asked too. I can only assume it was the Android Wear app going crazy. Yeah 13 hours isn't ideal. I'm at 60% after 9 hours under pretty heavy use so I'm more than happy

23 Nov 15 #235
Glad you got it sorted.

I do remember that initially mine did a similar thing in that it was very warm after the update was applied. I Factory Reset it (based on good practice when flashing new phone ROMs) and it was fine after that. This is why initially asked you'd done a factory reset on yours. Anyway glad you got it sorted in the end.

I tried turning on Ambient mode on mine over the week end. The battery lasted around 13hrs so not really practical as I'd need it to last more like 17 hours to see me through a full day.

I know this is a moto 360 deal but for £100 I'm unsure whether to get the moto 360 or smart watch 3. Moto 360 looks nicer but the sw3 seems better for performance etc. Any suggestions?
