The argument is your confusion between faster and better :wink: people often get laptops because they want portability and not a lot of extra kit storing their stuff so that they can't look at it when on the move. So for that an SSD is not as good, so a blanket statement of better is incorrect. If the laptop has room for a second hdd to be put in though then better could well be applied

I gave both HDD and SSD options, choose your pick.

We really do not need to argue about this. SSD is a better hard drive, nothing to argue about that. Its price has come down over the last two years and become affordable. But it is price to GB ratio is much higher than a normal HDD. So if your priority is storage space over speed and you do not want to spend a lot, than HDD would suit you more. But that does not change the fact that SSD is a better type of hard drive.


In my opinion, I would always go for the SSD for £10 more.

I can store big files on my removeable, not a problem.

Last month bought this laptop for family usage, laptop seems OK. But returned as Windows 10 upgrade did not live to expectations. If you like Windows and a cheap laptop this is OK. I am now using a Chrome book and will try to stay away from Windows as much as possible.

are these any good for a mid range laptop?

Ordered this for 249 from ebuyer last week

Looks OK to me, not sure why it's cold. Looks a reasonable spec for the money. Maybe the much reported Lenovo 'Malware' is putting people off. Shouldn't worry though, you can upgrade the BIOS from the Lenovo website to get rid of any persistent Lenovo 'Malware'. I'd then upgrade to Windows 10 then download the Windows 10 Media from the MS site and do a completely clean install of Windows 10 on the machine. You'll then have a decent machine for the money. OK bit of a faff but, to be honest, I'd do a clean install on any new machine I bought.

Looks to be about the going rate based on a quick google...
