Was about to buy the normal hobgoblin mini keg as a present for someone when I saw the gold version reduced from £15 to £8. Works out at £1.60 a litre which is pretty cheap. Still showing as £15 online, found in Leyland. Still a few on shelf

Heat for the price, but it's really disappointing compared to standard hobgoblin.

Keg can be refilled with homebrew as well.. the empty kegs are usually £7 from the homebrew shops.

Generally prefer my darker brews but have to admit was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Standard Hobgoblin off trade sales are down 20% this year, but introducing Gold has raised the brand by 30% overall, so I guess not everyone agrees ;-)

From the comments, seems to be at more stores than just the one I found it at. Funny how when folk can't get a deal they moan & start calling people sheep. I'll make a baaah with the 2 kegs I got. Thanks.

This is a surprisingly good beer for a mainstream brewer which, as others have said, is a nice citrussy golden beer with grapefruit and floral notes. If this was rebadged as something like "Old Scruttocks Hop Botherer IPA" from some obscure US craft brewer, hipsters would happily pay £5 a pint for it!

Two completely different beers. It's like comparing diet coke to dr pepper, ultimately pointless.

That's just personal taste and choice.I love it,it has a good old fashioned beer taste and at 4.5% just right for a bitter.

Agreed. This used to be around 5.3% ABV. Now I think 4.8% which has totally altered the taste. Now not worth buying. HEAT added for price tho.

We've been discussing these kegs on The Home Brew Forum. They are great to re-use for storing your home brew. Please consider donating your empties to freecycle as I'm sure someone would make use of these.
I've given some heat but I was searching yesterday for these (totally unaware of this deal) and couldn't find them anywhere around Belfast (still to try Sainsbury's). If anyone knows anywhere in NI that stock these (even at full price) I'd be most grateful.

They're both golden ales, one is nice one isn't. It was disappointing for a Wychwood beer, it's my opinion. Still voted hot for the price.
Edit: oh right you mean comparing the standard to the gold. Meh, the Wychwood point still stands.
