Looked ideal until I reads that it had no Ethernet port? :disappointed:

I have 2 of these and I've never had any problems streaming anything to them over wifi.
Kodi works very well and there's no need to sideload it anymore with Android v6.
As it's a Google device it gets the OS updates and patches first. it's a whole is version ahead of my s5

Can confirm that it works through both micro USB to ethernet adapters and also a standard ethernet adapter into a usb hub.
only problem it's extremely slow for transferring files over the network. (had mine set to automatically ftp my downloads to my server (as built in storage is low) .

£120 from tonight for all 3.... now that is a good price
Fair enough, something has changed since I tried one, it only worked as OTG before so Kodi refused to write to the external drive and could only read from it.
Shield is still better anyway as the USB ports are both 3.0 not 2.0.

Where have you plucked that figure from? Have actually tried using one yourself? I've had no issues moving apps over to USB storage. As soon as you plug it in it asks you if you want to use the USB as internal memory and formats it for you.

This is better than the Chinese boxes you get... Otg works so you can add Ethernet and usb ports.
Don't do 4k but not many devices did when this came out... For 60 and the fact you can collect it's not bad..

Heat for a price that's typically been a non-mover, but I'll wait for v2.

chromecast would easily support prime if Amazon let it and added the code to their app... instead they've refused to and removed everything except their fire TV stick... dodgy dodgy company

I have both a Chromecast and a YouView box plugged into my TV. Combined, I can do pretty much everything that I could with this Nexus Player, yet for some reason I want one! It's so round and shiny!

I have 2 x Fire TV boxes running most popular android streaming apps and Kodi without a hitch.
main thing that sold me was more memory and Ethernet port vs the nexus player
plus the v2 model supports 4k video and will drop in price on black Friday surely.
IMO the best branded box you can buy for your money

The Nexus player has USB OTG, so it does support external drives as well as other peripherals.

You get £5 back on this in a voucher for spending over £50 and there's another £1 off for using fast track...
I'm tempted to replace my m3 box but the review isn't too inspiring and wifi could be a pain in the @ss

This does support external USB, all you need is a micro USB adapter.
I bought this when I was in the States a couple of months ago solely for using Kodi. It cost me $50 (£35). I had the fire TV before this and this is a better device for running Kodi. Yes the Shield is much better but if you are only using it for media then I would definitely recommend it.

For anyone tempted by this, but looking for something a little cheaper (and a bargain) you can get the new Google Chromecast for effectively £10 right now.
it was like $39.99 in the states not too long ago, our price is still too much.

Don't think it could be done tbh, the current free remote offer is a cracking deal, when I 1st saw the remote was £40 I thought what a rip off but when I saw one, held it and used it I just thought wow, its metal and weighty yet tiny and super slim and the sound quality through headphones with it was far far better than I expected.
I look at the remote for the Fire TV n just think meh now.

I agree it is hands down the best kodi tv device on the planet, I disagree on its price, and I still think they are not sure what market they are aiming for, I think steam streaming or moonlight seem to be better received as a PC streaming device, the grid platform looks great until you realise new releases are £50 plus a sub fee....I think it is a boys toy, not a main stream box for everyone, and not including the remote from the get go is a decision I still don't understand....
If it was me I would sell a £99 version with the remote and kodi pre installed, now that would be serious sales I reckon.

Second coments about Shield is the best streamer bar none. 150 is bargain for shield this is agood device but i personally wouldnt buy one.

It's better for Kodi simply because it can be hardwired to the network, supports external USB drives, is massively quicker and can handle far more complicated skins without issue.
Btw I have way more than a dozen devices that are running Kodi, PC's, Pi's, Sticks, phones, tablets and also not one but 2 Shields, a pro and a standard model and the Shield is the most impressive I've seen it on yet and I've used Kodi since it was 1st used on modded Xboxes.

Each to their own, I think your logic is nuts as why you would buy a game controller for the nexuse box is beyond me...
In the real world it is £90 more, and I'm sorry it is not £90 better, not a chance... If it is just for kodi
And the cold hard reality is both have flopped big style, but we all know what one will get dropped in a heartbeat don't we! Nvidia are famous for dropping support in a heartbeat for non successful products, unless I am mistaken this is the 3rd attempt by nvidia in as many years

Currently the Shield is £150 Inc remote and controller so the equivalent with this would cost you £95! The Shield is way more than the Nexus in every area, 3x the ram, twice the memory, chalk and cheese regarding CPU and GPU, 2x USB 3.0, gigabit Ethernet, headphone socket on the controller and remote for private listening and most importantly full 4k capabilities, not crocked and not just HD.
For just an extra £55? You'd be stupid to buy the Nexus....
Aeschylus
19 Nov 151#23
Also 3 times the price, I'm sorry if I am paying £150 it better **** be a whole lot better than a £60 quid box...
Be a bit sensible please, and it is only just now that nvidia are even bundling the remote, you want to talk stupid ideas is selling a streaming box with a game controller and wanting £30 for a remote....won't deny the nvidia box is best on market but it should be...

This imo is the best kodi device on the market. I have one and it is brilliant for £60, if you have a big budget the the shield to is a better box but it is £150!
It has a ac wireless card inside I have a ac wireless router. Can stream 4K no problem
brookysm to Aeschylus
19 Nov 15#22
It can't even display 4k so why stream it to it?
Nvidia Shield absolutely wipes the floor with this, its everything the Nexus should have been.

It doesn't, like all Nexus devices now there is no external memory support. Whether this changes now marshmallow supports unified memory we'll have to wait and see but I'm not holding my breath...

Anyway, decent heat for price.

No, the same issues apply - if the game is based using touch its no good on this even if sideloaded onto it. The game has to have controller support.

Yes but crocked as no Ethernet or USB external storage support - even the Ouya supported those...
Sure im aware of Shield, what I wonder is if the Nexus Player can play controller supported games (i.e. not the shield tailored games or Nexus player specific. Just regular Android games with controller support?

The NVidia Shield is powered by a NVIDIA Tegra X1 256-core GPU and 3GB RAM. The Nexus Player is powered by a 1.8GHz Quad Core, Intel Atom chip, and Imagination PowerVR Series 6 Graphics engine.
Compared to the NVidia Shield, the Nexus Player won't stream PC games, or play Shield exclusive Android games (e.g. Half-Life 2) Beyond that though, you have access to the same Google Play store.
