Yes there is, its a 'standard' looking 3.5mm jack which has the optical connection at the bottom. Quite common on laptops. Apparently the Chromecast has such a socket.

excellent when they work, I find Google Play a bit more temperamental than Spotify Connect but it's workable.

Does anyone know if these have any advantage over similar bluetooth devices with aptx protocol?
I understand that wifi can shift more data more quickly than bluetooth, but not what affect this might have on the output.

I've ordered it anyway, then I can find out for myself and sell the one I like the least on ebay. Looks like the Chromecast has an optical output, so could go directly into a DAC? That could be interesting.

Its independent of your phone, you phone is just a remote. So your not streaming through your mobile, to the speaker via bluetooth, so a increased battery life. The exception is if your playing stored media, but even then its using just wifi rather than wife and bluetooth. I also understand that it will do multiroom support in the future, so all the speakers round the house (like SONOS) will play the same thing.
