This is an amazing journey to Peru with a pre city trip in Madrid. I have spent a number of weeks in Peru and you can adjust this itinerary to spend additional time in each area or side trips to the Amazon (which I didn't do due to a huge cockroaches fear) or Bolivia which is highly recommended.
The accommodation is all in TripAdvisor top 10 (if that is important to you) and whilst still budget accommodation it is highly rated and I've checked the reviews and ratings and they are all pretty consistent. The bus journeys are all easy in Peru and very safe. We did many overnight bus journeys on Cruz del Sur and the flat bed seats are better than business class on a plane. These save on accommodation costs and you get food, wine and it is very safe. Peru is an amazing country and this is a good itinerary but you could easily reduce it or add bits on depending on your plans.
23rd-25th February
Fly from the UK to Madrid. 2 nights at the Holiday Inn which has free airport shuttle back and to which saves on cost and is near a metro for easy access to the city. You also get breakfast included.
25th February-28th February
Depart London and fly to Cuzco, arriving 26th February in Cuzco. Overnight at Torres Dorada hotel e in Cuzco. Spend two nights in Cuzco chilling out after your long flight. I recommend Jack's cafe for some great food. You can also explore the main Plaza and wander through the gorgeous cobbled streets.
28th - 4th March
Spend five nights in the Sacred Valley at Last Casa Del Abuelo. You will need to get from Cuzco to the Ollantaytambo area but there are local buses or taxis and the cost is not expensive. If you can, I strongly recommend visiting a small animal sanctuary en-route owned by two brothers. They have rescued many animals including condors and it is welll worth a visit/donation. Once in Sacred Valley, it is easy to pick up tours to Macchu Picchu or Ollantaytambo. You can also get the train to Agues Calintas. You will be able to visit Machu Picchu or Wayna Picchu (which I recommend climbing) or if you wish source a local operator you could do the Inca Trail (which I really do recommend). You will need to source permits well in advance if you are interested in doing this. Llama Path are a good agent to use and I did my trek with them.
4th March
From Sacred Valley head back to Cusco where you will catch a bus to Puno. You'll need to be at the bus stop in Cusco at 7am. There are a variety of buses either local ones or tour buses which are cheap. I've priced the Inca Express bus which is like a tour bus that stops at different sites en route and includes a lunch box. It arrives in Puno at 5pm and I've used this bus myself but there are cheaper ones available if you are saving £. Overnight at hotel Cantuta Inn in Puno.
5th March
Full day in Puno where you can do a tour to Lake Titicaca or even head to Bolivia. Overnight in Puno (or Lake Titicaca if you do a tour at your own cost). Overnight at Cantuta Inn.
6th March
Take the 4m bus from Puno to Chivay (Colca Canyon). I've used this myself and no problems and again there are cheaper ones but this is reliable. Overnight at Hosteria and Spa Tradition Colca.
7th March
Free day in Chivay so you could explore Colca Canyon and go Condor spotting. There are gorgeous walks near Chivay area and some fantastic hot springs too. Back to Chivay overnight at Hosteria and Spa Tradition Colca.
8th March
Bus to Arequipa with 4m Express. Leave at 1:15pm arrive into Arequipa at 5:15pm. Overnight at Posada Nueva Espana.
9th March
Full day in Arequipa - highlights for me were the Ice princess and the monastry. If you want to extend your stay you can look at climbing El Miste!
10th March
Cruz del Sur bus departing at 1:30pm for Nazca. If you want to save on accommodation costs you can look at doing the overnight bus which I do recommend too. Arrive into Nazca late PM. Overnight in Nazca at Hospedaje Yemeya No 1 rated TripAdvisor accommodation.
11th March
Full day to explore Chauchilla cemetery (an absolute must see IMO) or do a flight over the Nazca lines. Do not eat anything before this flight.... Trust me on this! Overnight in Nazca.
12th March
Cruz del Sur morning bus to Ica which is 2 hours away. Stay at Huacachina and do 4pm sand boarding/buggy tour. There are lots of places offering this and I strongly recommend a visit. I've stayed at Casa del Bamboo and it is lovely budget accommodation. Shared bathroom but the couple who own it are English (from Devon as I recall) and they do fantastic food too. You can only contact them via Facebook it seems but it was cheap. I've allowed £30 a night but it was cheaper.
13th March
Bus from Ica to Lima (you can break this journey up and stop at Paracas to do a boat trip of the Ballestas Islands which I highly recommend. Overnight in Lima at Residential Miraflores.
14th March
Lima, explore city and overnight again.
15th March
Fly home!

Have some Heat for your effort - looks a great itinerary. We paid more than double pp (£2300) with Exodus for the Essential Peru tour 2 years ago. Tour itinerary
While I would say that the Exodus package was worth every penny for what we got, your itinerary certainly promotes the message that it is possible to visit this amazing country on a shoestring and people may not have to scrimp and save for so many years as I did to tick this off the bucket list

I'm having screen shot problems and just about to go to watch Spectre. I'll try and sort when I get home sorry guys but I'm sure you get the drift!
Pics now uploaded - Spectre was amazing BTW!

Meh. TripAdvisor top ten will give a very sanitised experience, perhaps good for those going abroad for the first time. Uk's most popular car? Ford Fiesta. France's most popular restaurant?McDonald's. World's most popular soft drink?Coca-Cola. Going by 'top ten's' has some drawbacks.
I'll occasionally use TA when in a tight spot, but let's face it, the quality of travel advice there is worse than any guide book in the history of publishing.

Great price.
Cuzco: Just to mention that some get really bad altitude sickness on arrival to Cuzco so you may suffer the first two nights and can take up to 5 days to acclimatise.
Inca trail: As mentioned, all trips on Inca trail can only be carried out by registered tour agents (there is a website listing them all) and there are a limited number of passes issued each day in order to reduce damage to the trail. You will also need to pay privately to have a yellow fever vaccination and proof of this for the Inca trail.
Wayna picchu is worth the climb but you have to arrive before a certain time as they close this early and again there are a limited number of spaces.
The thermal baths at Aguas Calientes are a welcome treat after the Inca trail.
Lake titicaca: Uros Islands....floating islands are worth a half day tour.
Lima: Miraflores is picturesque and modern. Worth taking a local bus to Barranco for a relaxed bohemian vibe.
Peruvian Amazon jungle: If you want to venture into the Amazon then Iquitos is a good starting point. But sadly you'll need to take a 3 hour boat trip deep into the Amazon to see any real animals as many of the locals have caught them. Muyuna Lodge is amazing and very eco-conscious. Take lots of debt and long sleeved loose white clothing as you will get eaten alive on the night safaris.
