You mean after setting up the phone and updating the pre-installed apps, but before installing your own, or taking any pictures? At least the pictures can go on the SD cards, but you are very limited in terms of apps.

Not all apps can be moved to SD. In fact not many at all. I have the 2nd gen moto g and find it a pain when i cant move apps to SD. So if you're thinking that an SD card will solve the 8gb size limit of the phone, it wont, unless you dont have many apps.

Why am I posting here? Because I thought I'd chime in and say that you'll be getting double the RAM, dual SIM, a slightly more premium-feeling device, and Cyanogen.
The first two points I mentioned were the tipping points - can't live without those. As others have said, 1GB of RAM for a midrange phone released in 2015 is absurd. No matter what you say, whether you can live with it or not, it's not futureproof.

If you're in the market for a £99 phone you need to reign in your expectations a little. Anyone saying "spend £20 extra on this" or "£30 extra on this" isn't comparing apples with apples.
I bought a used 3rd gen off eBay for £99 a few weeks ago to replace my 1st gen G 4G. This is way better in every way. My needs are to ring people, get push email from an exchange account and a bit of browsing. This does it. My 1st gen did it but had slowed in a year so this feels like a revolution!
And I know it will be updated with all the latest software during the year. So I won't need to buy another Chinese handset in 4 months to keep up.
I want to spend no more than £99 a year on a phone. Not £169 or £129 or £115. £99. Job done.

I've got this phone, had it for 2 months now. 8GB isn't enough but you can buy a cheap 32GB card and install most of your apps to it so it keeps the phone memory free. I've got 1GB free on the phone, you do have to keep deleting photos and videos once they've uploaded to Google Photos, but it's a cracking phone and I paid £150.
Android M is coming to the Moto G in January, the big feature being phone and memory card memory is counted as one and not separate, so you won;t have any memory issues to fret about.

Right now you sound exactly like a corporate worker.
Plenty of people struggle to get their precious photos out of phones that eent dead or broken screen from non-sdcardslotphones. Card are getting faster and people should have a choice, they want flexibility v one extra half second speed.
fishmaster
1 Nov 15#150
Nope I sound like someone who knows what they're talking about. Analyze the internal NAND storage flash on modern smartphones >
Then check out the speed for Micro SD NAND. You'll find a huge discrepancy. Unless Micro SD NAND can match internal storage, you'll always get a non uniform experience. Which is why the two leading smartphones Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6S which both have the fastest NAND on their platform, do not have removable storage. Yes the storage is too small on the iPhone 6S with 16GB. 32GB should be the minimum now, but that's the reason it's a backwards move from Google. They're trying to get a uniform experience from the phone and allowing much slower expanadable storage messes things up. As for me being a corporate worker, well that's your assumption based on what you don't like me opinionating.

You're assuming you know what you are talking about, sorry, you cannot use as an argument the very decision we are questioning, iphone NEVER had a slot, and Samsung had one till the very last model.
LG flagships still have one, Google itself as you say allow it back, users want it, the rest, it is just your opinion, contradicting common sense to be honest. Just the other day someone was asking me desperatly for a solution to get his baby pictures back from his broken phone... Phones need a removable card slot, end of.
fishmaster
1 Nov 15#156
Having or not having an SD card slot is no solution for not backing up. As for the link if you read it, yes the Apple iPhone wins some benchmarks and the Galaxy S6 wins others, the link clearly illustrates how far internal NAND storage has come and have it will continue to evolve beyond anything the sd card format can achieve and it's definitely part of the debate as Apple have never needed an sd card slot, if they had one, then it would be a crippled experience as they have some if not the fastest NAND on any phone. As NVe, UFS and other NAND storage solutions come onboard, the situation is only going to worsen. Removable storage needs to match internal storage. Google were only implementating a strategy for the future, now the future is here, they've gone back on it to appease people who don't understand. Users in the majority are unlikely to be tech savvy, they just want it to work, manufacturers are to blame. Apple have had 16GB storage in their phones since 2009, things have moved on. Yes new technologies cost money, but they have to balance the experience of their phones. There is no place at all for removable storage in flagship phones, as the mass adopted technology does not exist to facilitate it without some limitation on the user experience of the phone. The storage limitation is imposed by the manufacturer.

There's a reason that was one of the top comments in this thread. The point is quite clearly beyond your comprehension.

Need a new MP3 player after my ipod touch has failed. Is this a decent Android solution? I’ve got a micro SD card around somewhere.

Yes, it would be fine, you can also upload your music to Google play music for free and play it/store it from there. That way you can just download what you want to currently want to listen to.

Sorry for the late reply. I picked it up on ebay actually, thought I was getting a bargain but it turned out to be a mistake. The phone itself is great when it works but this one was faulty and the seller is refusing a return, so now I have to wait until the 11th before I can even open an ebay case.

8gb is fine.... Will have around 2gb spare after apps installed
Is it worth the extra £15?

I'm on Tesco Mobile. Will these Vodaphone ones be similarly bloat free and easily unlockable? £139 in Tesco at the moment but I was waiting for the new Clubcard Boost; could go this way and save my points though.
This may be much less of course if you use loads of apps.... Facebook is a hog so I just access it through the browser
Hot!!!!
Moto G on the other hand is in whole different class!
Sorry, there's been a problem
Your order has not been placed because of a temporary error. Please submit your order again. Thank you.
It's 2015, Android is smart and knows how to manage RAM usage.
£99. Job done.
I would never swap my ultra 6 for a moto g but for some the moto may be a better phone if they want a smaller handset, my daughter says my smart ultra 6 is too big for her and she has a 3rd gen moto.
I want to use a post office mobile sim, so can anyone please post a direct link to somewhere I can go to to reliably unlock this phone, preferably they've used before to unlock this particular model. Thanks in advance.

I smell a whiff of anti-China-ism coming from you...
It doesn't have enough room for installing a decent number of applications.
my next phone will be one with 16GB internal memory at the minimum and at least 2GB of ram.
My fone is a mess at the moment
I will be rooting soon and installing the older version of android
Hot!
thanks
p.s. ebay seller returned code in under two hours

Android M is coming to the Moto G in January, the big feature being phone and memory card memory is counted as one and not separate, so you won;t have any memory issues to fret about.
Every day is a skool day
Maybe just put a faster memory card in?
Plenty of people struggle to get their precious photos out of phones that eent dead or broken screen from non-sdcardslotphones. Card are getting faster and people should have a choice, they want flexibility v one extra half second speed.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9662/iphone-6s-and-iphone-6s-plus-preliminary-results
LG flagships still have one, Google itself as you say allow it back, users want it, the rest, it is just your opinion, contradicting common sense to be honest. Just the other day someone was asking me desperatly for a solution to get his baby pictures back from his broken phone... Phones need a removable card slot, end of.
