I have the original DC59 Animal which is now re-branded as the V6 Animal, and has the same attachments mentioned in your original post.
We bought ours in February last year and must say that it's been one of our best purchases in recent years. It is expensive as you can get a proper full size Dyson for similar money, but for us, vacuuming is now less of a chore.
#1 - It's easily accessible:
We store ours at the corner of the kitchen, where it is mounted on the wall bracket / charging base. It's within easy reach whenever we need to use it. Our other cylinder Dyson lives in the cupboard under the stairs, tucked behind (amongst other things) a set of tall metal drawers on castors. So it is a hassle getting the damn thing out. We've only used that a couple of times since.
#2 - It's cordless (obviously!) and light.
No more having to lug a heavy vacuum cleaner around the house and up/down the stairs. No power cord to trip over, or having to stop a few times while you switch power sockets.
We paid £349 for ours, but got £50 cashback as part of a promotion. I wouldn't hesitate paying full price if I had to buy one again.

Yes I have this model. The wife loves it we paid £289. Its a brilliant vacuum its worth it for us as we have kids its always out.
The vacuum its self is great and very handy. Only down sides I have came across are
1. Rubbish bin is small
2. Long hair gets tangled in the head (bit on the floor) also around the cylinder in the bin.
I don't find the battery a problem but I can see why people would have a problem. We live in a 3 bed house and the 17 mins battery is fine

The battery is not as bad as you think. We can do the whole of our 3 bed semi (+ the loft conversion) without the battery dying. The runtime using standard suction is something like 20 minutes. And 6 minutes on the max suction setting. But realistically as the Dyson is trigger operated, you wouldn't have it on constantly (unlike a normal mains powered vacuum cleaner).
Admittedly I also had the same concern when we first bought it, but ours is almost 2 years old and the battery is still fine. Another thing is that, for us anyway, we don't often vacuum the whole house in 1 go anymore. Whereas we used to spend maybe 30 minutes doing the whole house, but since getting the DC59, we tend to do the high traffic areas more (i.e. whole of ground floor and stairs), then the landing bedrooms etc.
