Aldi do s Pape for £7 which is on a par with this.

I actually bought a bottle of this 2 or 3 weeks ago after seeing it on offer at Asda. With it costing £9 I thought it'd be a good bottle, and given it was £14.50 initially I thought it might be a very good one and I'd treat myself.

Perhaps I was just unlucky, but it was shocking. Perhaps it was corked, or that particular bottle was off, but it was so bad that I forced myself to drink 1 glass, poured another (which I threw away), then threw out the other half of the bottle. If I'd kept the receipt I'd have taken it back half empty and asked for a refund.

Now perhaps I got a bad bottle, but I think I'll be buying full priced £5-6 bottles in future and keeping the receipt!

chateauneuf-du-pape.......overpriced less than average wine. Many cheaper wines a lot better.

Wolf Blass yellow label, Lidl Cimarosa to name but two. The Lidl Cimarosa Cabernet Sauvignon one of the best for about £4.50

We drink yellow label but only when it's on offer at around £6.50...can't compare to this as we don't drink it but I think you'd be hard pushed to beat wolf blass cav sav yellow label at £6.50

A £15 bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape is like a £3 bottle from you local corner shop, crap. Your paying for the name.

Good luck getting any I ordered 3 next day and they tried to sub it as it was already sold out.

Try the Cotes De Vinsobres 2014. down to 6 quid from 10.50. really nice!

I don't know what all the fuss is about this wine,Lindemanns Merlot is a far smoother glass,just my humble opinion lol

Argh. stuff said on wine threads is unbelievable.

Of course one may prefer the taste of Lindemanns Merlot, this is after all a matter of taste, but to mention it in a Chateauneuf-du-Pape thread show a total lack of win knowledge. This Merlot is light and fruity, the one here will be full bodied and completely different style. It's like saying "I don't know what the fuss is about this Asda Jalfrezi, the Lidl Korma is a far smoother sauce".
