anyone know how the storage is implemented on this kind of device for dual boot ? is it 32gb storage partitioned into a 2gb-ish android partition and the rest for the windows ? it should upgrade easily to 10 but i dunno how that would affect the dual booting.

has the same innards as any budget win8/10 tablet and must say my lynx8 can run some older 3d games (like XCOM) and anything 2d i've tried, though slows down for multitasking, so its not bad - curious to see how well it runs android apps.

I think it's pretty great, especially for the price - obviously value depends on use but I'm using it instead of my fire TV stick and its miles ahead in terms of performance and flexibility. The Android partition is a little small but if you have a MicroSD around you can sort that quite easily. Would definitely recommend it

Interesting, I too was taking notice of the people who sell it, GearBest have updated the listing to say it is in stock in the EU warehouse. You see, I recognise that in two weeks I can have a shipment from China to the EU made quite easily. Even the tone of the question suggests that at the time it was asked there was no stock showing in the EU warehouse, now there is.

Pi2 1GB is going for about £30 so anyone considering this perhaps is a better deal if they're going to use it a lot.

These are great devices for the price.

A couple of things of note, as this is dual booting, be careful when updating in-case you remove the custom partitions that support the dual booting. Another thing to as well, AFAIK this is Windows 8.1 with Bing which is a 32bit OS, this then upgrades to Windows 10 32bit. If you have a requirement for 64bit, then you can then do a clean reinstall using Windows 10 media creator to an activated 64bit.

Yeah, I had the same wonderful experience too in the beginning but a few days ago it went nuts on me for god knows why. It was just working normally and then bam. Thankfully recovery made it go back to work properly.

Need to replace an Ouya, mainly to watch films (currently use xbmc but open to try Kodi), primarily mp4 files. Got Netflix on my Virgin box, but a faster option would be ideal too. Got up to £100 to spend (including the remote, not using a mouse in the living room) is this the best option?

I think it should work but only via Windows- last time I looked, Sky Go was blocked from outputting to HDMI on Android.

That is very true, however the argument is the relevance of a two week old Q&A compared with a 'live' stock level. On the one hand we have a Q&A from two weeks ago today, the question phrased as if it said the EU warehouse was out of stock on the site at the time though obviously neither one of us knows if that is the case or not and it is down to interpretation, with an answer saying essentially that there is no EU stock. On the other hand we have a 'live' stock level showing stock in the EU warehouse today. Given that I do know GearBest EU warehouse to go out of stock on items and then take approx. 2-4 weeks to restock when that happens, I do believe that in 2 weeks if it was accidentally showing 'in stock' that it would have been corrected within that time. Therefore it is logical to assume that within the last two weeks, the EU warehouse has gone from out of stock to in stock at some point.

Ultimately there is no guarantee that their 'live' stock level means they have stock, just as Amazon can run out of stock just as you finalise an order or CPC website stock levels take time to update from the warehouse, but then the 'live' stock level is logically speaking more current information than the Q&A you have been quoting from.

Of course this is now a moot point compared to when we started having this nice discussion since it is now actually sold out in the EU warehouse.

I would be careful with a priority shipping service, some couriers deliver the goods and then send an invoice for VAT and their charges later (TNT definitely do, not sure about Yodel), so you think it has cleared customs fine and then you get stung a bit later with the charges. At least if it goes through Parcelforce/Royal Mail when it gets to the UK then they will ask you to pay the charges before they deliver and you can opt to refuse if you are not happy with those charges and the item is then returned and you can get a refund for it.

ok Mine arrived today and its all running as it should, i didnt bother with the upgrade to 10 as im only going to use it for Kodi and i love to just try something new.
so on booting into windows the first thing i did was try to scale the screen.............. yes the options for intel hd graphics are there but erm they will not allow me to scale my screen. this is my first gripe im currently looking for a solution, i even did the updates which updated the gpu drivers to intels latest ones.
If anybody else would care to try i would be most happy to here from them ta.

Underscan in order to bring the taskbar into full view. this is something i often have to do with windows and hdmi to my lg 50" screen infact most every tv i have used has had to be scaled to some degree.
there are no options to alow scaling in the hd graphics control panel as there fixed

am typing this on my connected to a Sony 42", fully scaled without having to change a thing.

Had same issue where screen was too big on my Samsung tv. Simply went into the picture size option and chose the screen fit setting and voila, it's as it should be now.
Great piece of kit this, Windows 8.1 / 10 & office 365 for 1 year too. Bargain at £54.

I Choose the Eu warehouse in my order

I ordered from the EU warehouse and have yet to recieve any delivery notifications etc. Past dealings with Gearbest (and other Chinese sites) makes me suspect that they had a lot less stock in the EU warehouse than they advertised, and will now be shipping stock over from China to then send on from the UK. I will expect a delivery notification in about 3 weeks. The Chinese have a totally different business ethic to this country. Personally I don't mind waiting, its just the way things work with these firms.

I paid 53p for some kind of special delivery, maybe that's why I'm getting dispatch notifications already. It's being dealt with by Yodel. Though I did ask for EU stock. Hope I don't get stung by customs.

If it needs 5V/3A as previously suggested, then I wouldn't think it would work as a TV USB port can't usually provide 3A. I would just run the cable alongside the power cable for the TV.

Mine arrived from China to London today and was sent to Hatfield sorting office so I should have delivery quite soon.

Was using the box again last night, and for the price point it is actually a really good deal. Kodi (with the beast wizard) runs smoothly, with no lag (My S805 was a lot slower when running Kodi), and I've installed steam so I can stream games from my main computer upstairs with no issues! Also got lightpack running with this and it barely blinks! Recommending it to all my friends!

So I got an email back from them telling me to wait another 7-10 days, so it seems to be shipping from china. The initial delivery date was supposed to be 1-3 days from the EU warehouse in the dispatch email that I got from them over a week ago, bunch of liars won't be bothering with GearBest again. Yep from China. I did pay 50p for express delivery and it was delivered by yodel, no customs fees.

found I had to alter the graphics settings in windows as was displaying on multiple devices, android kodi only runs max 720 whilst in windows it runs 1080. Streamed an iso blu ray without issues in windows.

Windows 10 install went horrendously wrong and it got stuck in a rollback loop to 8.1 and android took a big dump and it's now asking for a password.
I can get into the bios but nothing will install Windows 7,8,10 I even tried the drastic measure of trying to install Linux and even that's not having it.
I'm on the verge of junking it or taking it apart to see what kind of hard drive is in it but I'm guessing it's going to be a soldered on jobbie.

Have you tried formatting the main drive in the bios and installing windows through a usb stick?

Are you guys getting fast boot times on these devices?

Well I'm kinda sorted, the whole thing was looking like a lost cause but it turns out all these mini PCs are basically the same thing, luckily hannspree knows how to look after customers and provide a full rescue disk image for download on its website.
Only trouble is that they only provide Windows 8 on its machines, the rescue image totally wiped the drive and repartitioned it into one 24gb chunk.
So I'm back to 8.1 Bing fully activated and eligible for Windows 10 upgrade, only downside is that android is gone but I can live with that.

Anyone found a USB power cable for this?

Mine came today, what a great bit of kit. croz123 I'm running a 2.5" USB 3 1 TB drive via the side usb port without any issues. I notice someone that I assume is from here (Shaun O'Connor) has posted on the Gearbest site about how to keep it cool.

As a temporary solution I've sat mine ontop of a USB powered Laptop cooler (the type with 2 fans underneath) and that seems to be keeping it at a cool temp. However I shall go to the Pound shop tomorrow to see if they still sell the USB powered Netbook coolers as this would be more suited to the size. Mine can just live ontop of that permanently as its going to be on 24 hours a day ideally.

Ended up going for a barebones NUC had a spare SSD and Ram. Far faster and from Gigabyte

Wow, ordered 18\11, received 21\11. Works well so far. If you turn it on it will boot to last setting windows or android after 10 seconds. Only tried windows so far, office 365 is available free, but must register by may 2016.

This company are shockingly bad. The deliveryman working for Yodel basically stole my package, and Gearbest stopped responding to my messages after the second or third day (of only one msg a day), and yet I need them to escalate the issue with Yodel. I've started a dispute with PayPal, but that's going to take upto 20 days. Never having had to raise a dispute before, I didn't realise that I should have done if well over a week ago. This whole affair has been a massive disappointment, and I'll never order from them again, or anywhere else that uses Yodel.

Finally got windows 10 installed, had to do it by usb stick in the otg port and found a brilliant program called bluestacks than runs android apps in windows.

I'm gonna guess you didn't read through the thread, as I previously posted, I lost the entire lot, Windows and android all became corrupt and I had to wipe the whole hard drive of everything.
Now I have a single partition with only Windows 10 on it and no android whatsoever.

I haven't noticed any missing drivers but I installed the mini PC rescue disk 8.1 then updated to Windows 10 so maybe your problem is from doing a clean install of w10.

ah well, might have to do it all again, was hoping there was a driver pack for it, unf the issue seems to be occurring with the 8.1 driver getting updated by w10 as after reinstalling 10 and allowing the new updates it hasn't re-occurred..
will do the win8 and make a list of the drivers needed this time before doing another win10 install, dammed "unknown devices"

I sorted mine by going to the HD Graphics control panel (By the Time and Date) and changing the Refresh Rate 59Hz made it fit the screen for me.

I got a mini keyboard with this Cenovo but I cant get the trackpad to work on android but the keyboard works okay. On startup I can select Android with the pointer and it all works for about five seconds before the pointer freezes and disappears. Everything works okay when I go into Windows its just Android thats giving me problems.

Ordered from the China warehouse, shipping was reasonably fast and the product is very good value (havent had to deal with customer services etc so cant comment on that)

Yes, it works fine. I have also used my 'chinese' xbox360 adapter and this works fine also. You need to 'force' the driver in Win 10 but this isn't a big deal.

You can't navigate the xbox app using the controller, but it will work fine once streaming (I have been playing GTA V).

I just got it today, connected it up to my external monitor and it boots fine in windows 8.1 and android, however, when I connect it to my TV (a Sony Bravia KDL42W8) and boot into windows, it does nothing, only see a black screen on my TV, however, when I boot on android, my TV displays the OS and it works fine. Any ideas lads?

Oh and the wifi on this is only 2.4GHZ not dual band.

You need to switch monitor on Windows. Once it is connected via HDMI, use Win+P to cycle through the options.

Just ordered the window 10 version of this but I noticed it comes with 32 bit windows. Is there a guide to get 64 bit windows 10 installed.

There's no need to install the 64-bit version, as the RAM is less than 4GB. Also the 64-bit build takes up more space.

i attempted this but had to restore as some of the drivers are missing and power control didn't work too well, occasionally refused to wakeup. make sure you recover cdkeys using something like belarc advisor.
I also made an image first using macrium reflect (test the usb boot stick you created before wiping anything)

I installed Windows 10 but kept the Android partition though not sure what I'll need it for...

I was talking from a fresh install of win10, TBH with the touchscreen it simply wasn't as nice to look at/use as 8.1 even without the driver issues.
removing the other partitions aren't an issue but resizing the win8 partition to use all available space is and i'm not that used to working with efi and its disk handling, was gonna take me too long at the time.

I want to perform a clean install of Windows 10. delete all existing partitions. Will this still try and boot into Android do you think? I'm not sure how to bypass that process? Will the Windows 10 clean install update the bios/boot settings?

Worried about bricking the device!

Can the android be rooted?

download and install macrium reflect on to the box,
get your self a USB stick (16Gb) use macrium to create a Bootable rescue disk on the usb stick, you need to make sure its formatted to 4k sectors(only manual intervention req'd)
test the machine will boot from this, go into bios/efi and override boot device to allow this.
Once successfully boot tested, restart and image the whole disk to the usb.
this will allow you to experiment to your hearts content.
As i said before i used belarc advisor to grab the cdkey for both win8 and win10, you will need to use another usb stick(again 4k sectors) to create abootable install disk(stick) for win10.
As i said certain drivers seem to be missing when i did this and i didn't have time to track them down.

don't see why not but not really sure why anyone would want when windows is available with its far superior hardware support, huge collection of software and all round ease of use especially with keyboard and mouse.

Thanks op mine has arrived. Good bit of kit apart from the limitation within the display settings. I'm unable to disable maintain display scaling.

More worryingly is that it cane with windows 10 pre loaded but it has not been activated and it fails every time saying the key has been blocked. Not sure what I can do?

if so i would suggest doing that and then activating win8, then update afterwards.
Otherwise you may have to contact gearbest.

post a screen snip of device manager and another of the drive partition layout from drive management, sounds like someone has used an image from a different machine.

Just setup my windows 10 version and thought I would share my findings:
Windows 10 was activated out of the box. It would not update to latest version of win 10 using update but it did work using the Microsoft upgrade tool , all running nice. Very nice having android works very well with small niggles: Does not remember to use headphone jack for sound. In windows run on top resolution out of the box. My usb hub and sdcard all working well. I have found the wifi to work very well , not tried Bluetooth yet. Do not like using the Chinese plug adapter so would like a link to a uk one that works please.
Is it possible to upgrade android without messing things up? is it worth doing?

I've checked and weirdly it says to restore back to windows 7 but when I try that it says there is no back up to roll back to. I've tried some online guides on how to go back to windows 8 and I don't have the option so maybe they did a clean install?

right click on this PC and select manage, click on storage/disk management and in RH window you will have the layout of partitions etc

yeah its not a lot, take an image using macrium or similar then set about removing as much as possible, don't forget to double check you can access the usb rescue media.

i imagine if you disable hibernate, remove the old win8 files and the temp files etc you can maybe reclaim another few GB

umm not sure what you are getting at there, seems much easier to create your own image rather than download 5-6gb of files but hey each to their own lol
