It's 48", it's 4k, it's got a three year warranty.

What do you want for £299.99?

Wow. I'm only in my 20s and I'm amazed at at how TVs have advanced to reach 4K. I remember playing on my SNES on a 20" CRT TV and it was one of the greatest things ever! But here we are and people are complaining about a 4K TV for less than £300... What an unappreciative (or spoilt?) generation.

I know this is a long dead deal but just wanted to add a bit of info. I just decided to buy a panasonic 4k upscaling bluray player and the resulting picture is nothing short of awesome, a massive improvement from the normal 1080p input. This just goes to show that a lot of this tv's shortcomings are down to its built in upscaler. Just hope this might help another owner.

The warranty is with the retailer for a minimum of 12 months by law, the additional years then that's with whoever underwrites it on behalf of the retailer so until the 1st year is up then its Aldi who have to take responsibility for the set not Tempo so if the customer gets no joy from Tempo then Aldi have to take responsibility with it themselves.

4 Dec 15 #187
But with Tesco and Argos the warranty is with them. This comes with a 3 year warranty administered by Tempo. If they're not there to help you out then its a pointless warranty.

Bauhn is no different to Technika for Tesco, Polaroid for Asda or Bush for Argos, not sure what you expect from a TV this spec for £300 from a supermarket, am perfectly happy with mine bearing this fact in mind.

CEC was off by default but it still didn't work. Here's another warning - the customer service line don't pick up! Its a whitelabel company called Tempo who source cheap tat from around the world to flog to retailers as "exclusives". Bauhn is not a real company at all, its just a brand name madeup for Aldi.

I got my money back today and couldn't be happier. I'm not falling for this kind of nonsense again hence the HiSense deals going around I feel are much the same as this.

Re remote issue. Seems this is caused by a CEC issue, when the TV remote doesn't work at turning the set on other devices remote does.

Weird one but easily fixed, switch CEC off...

I've not had any ghosting but I've set my sound stage up through the headphone jack using aux in cable, really helps as the tv sound is terrible compared.

As for ghosting I can't help as I've not noticed any on mine, but someone did post some good settings previously which helped the quality for me

Bought this TV on Thursday.
The picture has got better over the last few days. I've not changed any settings yet.
Sky's football was fantastic but other programs( recorded on box then played back) especially the last panthers had ghosting. So bad it was hard to watch. I hope this improves ( help if you can)
Also, no optical out feed. So how do I connect this TV to a soundbar.

Tried 1080, 2k and 4k all show the same "quirks"
The cards game fine in 1080 and 2k no another screen with non of these problems.
Using the same cable I was using on the 2k panel

Running 2x 270x Hawks's in X-Fire uninstalled and reinstall with latest drivers and profiles.
I've ran a number of game benchmarks and games and all show the same issue when motion is involved unfortuntley.

Could very well be the screen is duff

The sound from this is atrocious :disappointed: I'm only using my PC and HDMI but I must say m3 tiny litlle 4 year old memorex cheapy speakers spank this tv :disappointed:

I'm also seeing a lot of oddities when both gaming and just using pc in general, a lot of images on random sites appear like theyre pictures of things made of playdoh. Games have been a bit hit and miss too, see tearing and also what Ic an only describer as rippling, like whe moving images seem to be rippled rather than flat.

The remote is very well designed tho

Thanks, I think i must have been tire/drunk when i posted that as I seem to have completely missed your's and a few others' posts about purchasing this tv and commenting on the quality!! It sounds like a great deal to me, although needing a Fire TV/ Nvidia shield may be a deal breaker, when there are 4k smart tvs for around £400, albeit slightly smaller.

Thanks for the update tho, it has given me food for thought for sure!

Fire TV Box only produces 30hz 4kk but both Prime and Netflix currently only stream at that anyway.
brookysm
28 Nov 15 1 #157
It was me who's been fiddling...

I've run it via its tuner, HD through it via a Sky box and 4k on Netflix via a NVidia Shield as well as using Kodi for streaming. Thoughts? It's not the best display I've seen but for a £300 TV its far from the worst. Light banding in the Black's(/greys...) is its biggest issue but that's just being picky. Picture through the tuner is quite soft in SD, HD is pretty good if a little soft too but I've still to play around with settings on the tuner.

Bare in mind you will need to buy either a Fire TV Box or NVidia Shield to view anything legal in 4k so that will add £80-120 to the cost. I've also not gamed on it so can't say what the screen refreshing is like.

Bottom line, its a 48" TV for £300 which isn't bad, being a 4k set that's got the required HDMI 2.0 with HDCP2.2 for futureproofing makes it a bargain. It's not a bad looker, bezel's are reasonably thin, sound quality is actually rather good for a flat screen, its quite light but comes with legs not a stand so it needs quite a wide surface to stand on or you'll need to wall mount (has a VESA mount on the rear). Connections are a little odd, two HDMI's are down facing in the middle and 2 are to the left side along with the USBs and the power lead isn't removable so could be an issue if you need to feed wires.

If you can find one and £300 is your budget then I can't really say anything other than go for it, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Edit. Forgot to give a special mention to its remote which well designed and great quality for a budget TV, especially like the fact the volume and channel buttons light up when used. Shame I can't find a code for the Sky remote to work the TV tho.

Got it, used the Amazon Fire box on HDMI 4 and can certify that it's 4K at 60hz HDCP2.2 as I've ran prime and Netflix through it. I am now running my desktop through it at 4K which is absolutely phenomenal. I used the settings posted by brookysm although the didn't change sharpness as its greyed out for me.

My internet is slow, so I've ripped YouTube videos from 4kdownload.com software for true quality and the Slow Mo Guys look amazing in 4K.

At the moment I've got Kodi running on my desktop as the Fire box only runs it at 1080p which still looks clearer but using the desktop is much better. Not managed to find any 4K addons that work yet (4K Media is down) but the picture quality is definitely better than my 1080p tv. My opinion, what a fantastic buy.

What are you using to view on it? I'm connected to a Sky HD box

Contrast 33
Brightness 38
Saturation 45
Sharpness 33
Colour temp cold
Noise reduction off
MoCom (which I assume is motion control) off.

Still tweaking a bit but it looks pretty good with HD using the above.

Edit: forgot to mention the TV is up high in the bedroom, I've set it for bed height viewing, looking head on with the screen I'd lower the colour tone down further.

Edit: ignore all these settings, since I've run the screen a few hours its all change now.

firstly i am using the built in freeview , have not tried the record or pause feature yet but media player from usb works well, i lowered the brightness to 40 and upped the sharpness to 60 but i might mess around with settings and try to get a better picture tomorrow i am watching carter on netflix in hd and i must say the picture is absolutely amazing i am wondering if i can try the 4k what it will look like, don't worry about the picture unless it is really bad mine is fine to me right now but i know will be better once i play around with settings a little bit and knowing that the picture gets a little better once it has been used for a few days weeks. don't know why but was the same as my old samsung.
, might get the dvd to calibrate it properly, also dhcp seems to be covered as i said it is working on netflix 100% right now as i type.

The screen does seem to have a little of a contrast issue but i am sure that is just messing around with settings but i am also sitting a little to the side of the tv and when i sit right in front of it is looks amazing, very happy with this set right now, my needs when buying were bigger screen, media player that worked with portable hard drive and ability to play netflix and obviously 4k for the future.
I paid £699 for my last samsung 40" tv sadly and paying less than half for this is just amazing , means i have 300 pounds i can use on other xmas presents for the family, might just buy an xbox one for xmas now.

HDMI 4 is 2.2 - NVidia Shield playing Netflix 4k without issue.

HD is very acceptable, SD pretty poor - very noisy, picture needed considerable tweaking, its no high quality TV, blacks aren't particularly strong with banding clearly visible at the edges but its a 48" 4k TV for just £300 and its better than the 40" Toshiba (Vistel) set in the bedroom its replaced.

For £300 its a pretty good buy imho.

willy528
26 Nov 15 #138
Well got it working now and the picture is very good compared to my previous 40" samsung, no jagged edges even when using sd channel but there is a slight difference between sd and hd channel via the built in freeview, not a massive difference. Messed around with setting and for now all i have done is up the sharpness to 60 and lowered the brightness to 45 which seems to be a sweetish spot, when i have finished messing around with the media player and some other things i will update again, probably tomorrow . There is network connectivity so i am wondering if netflix will work as someone said it might not due to hdmi compliance hdcp i will update if nobody else does

I must say i am surprised at the size going from 40" TO 48 maybe it is just because i am used to a big border around the tv but the screen does not seem to feel much bigger , it is but it does not feel over the top as i thought it might and this tv is only slightly bigger than the 40" overall, very light and connected to my standard wall mount easily so no need to put on the stand.

As with most things i suspect the picture quality will improve over the next few weeks as happened with my previous tv but right now i am very happy and at the price feel it was a steal.

26 Nov 15 #133
I gave a call to the number 0800 328 6063 (Took 4-5 times to get through to someone) Quote model: B48-63UHDF
They said none of the HDMI ports were HDCP 2.2, although the girl on the phone didn't have a clue about what I was on about, she had to get someone else. I wouldn't take it as gospel to be honest.
I URGE people to ring to try to get this clarified!!

No motion flow control in my settings menu???
PS4 looks ok, cant figure out which is better between this and a 50" Bush LED HD, need to test further.

Ive been using mine since 8:30, testing 4K desktop setup, works pretty nice (albeit no previous experience of practically and actually using 4K) Im getting a mini displayport to hdmi (4K 60Hrz) delivered later so will really test it properly.

All in all:
If I get confirmation from someone else on here who spoke to them that no HDMI ports are HDCP 2.2 compliant, Particularly in HDMI Slot 4 (60Hrz 4K), I may have to be returning it. Unless someone knows a workaround to get 4K netflix/prime on this tv???

Not too sure whether getting there at 7:20 to wait with some 'characters' this morning (most of whom were after a £50 smartphone, like it was the best crack to hit the streets) was worth it after all....and if so...whether I will have to do it all again tomorrow...

It has multimedia playback and a lan port for freeview, it also has a built in pver i belive using a hard drive on the usb port and plays all the file types necessary.

it does not look like it has netflix or bbc iplayer but if freeview it might. also it is in a massive f**king box.

im confused - is it worth buying even if its HDMI 1.4? Im seeing deals for high quality 4K sets around the £500 mark so a saving of £200 over the long-run (10 years) isn't worth it if the TV is a bit naff. It says this has HDMI 1.4 on their website so I'm 95% sure it will be that.

To be honest with you i would have thought 4k was just a gimmick but then i went into currys and had a look at the different tv's almost side by side. The LG oled tv is by far the best with almost 3d the quality was just so good, they had a soccer game on and it was absolutly crystal clear with no lag or ghosting or anything, I could have been almost looking out of a window at the field.
I also looked at the samsung 4k tv's and i must say they were rather close , not as good most defiently but they were so good compared to my existing 1080p samsung it was like watching something on mine in hd compared to watching somethign sd on the one in currys.

Not to be a grouch but i believe 4k tv's are right now worth the money they sell for , although i am waiting till next year although i will be outside lidl when they open if i can to get this deal as it really looks like something i could use to replace my 10 year old samsung, also though some have said it has hdmi 1.4 and some have said it has hdmi 2 it is easy enough to get it home and check it out if it does not have the info on the box and then return it if needed.

This 4K TV is only any good for watching content your playing into it through its usb, HDMI 1.4a means PC and consoles will be limited to 30fps updates, this results in jerky movement. You'll probably be better off getting a nice standard HD TV. If someone verifies its HDMI 2.0 then it offers scope for 60fps Input which is where it becomes usable on a practical level.
RockySpears to jldevoy
24 Nov 15 #112
Looking at Xbox One stats, it is HDMI 1.4. so you will get whatever the Xbox is capable of. If people here are saying you will only get 30 FPS then that is the Xbox limiting that, not the TV.

Likely2 is correct. Read the cnet reviews shown on post 39, page 2. You will only see any benefit from 4k with a 48" tv from about four feet from the tv or less. Most people sit at least 6 feet or more from the tv. You will not start noticing the difference until you buy a 55" + tv in most living rooms. 4k is just a marketing gimmick by the manufacturers. They are making 4k and telling you its better than your 1080 tv but it isn't. When you're stood in Currys standing three feet away from a tv whilst it's playing the manufacturer's usb stick you're thinking what a fantastic picture. Then you get it home and put on Dave and say what's wrong with my picture.....right.

It's a marketing and sales ploy. Ask the right questions in store to get the right answer.s 4k will only give a better picture whilst sat at a maximum distance from the screen.

On this particular tv ignore the 4k screen. It probably costs the manufacturer the same cost to make a 4k screen as a 1080 screen. Eventually all screens will be 4k because that's the way the market will go. It doesn't mean to say its better and even if it is better the chances are you won't even see the difference. What you are left with is £300.00 you are paying for a non-branded tv which has awful reviews in Australia. Aldi are giving a 3 year guarantee on this tv because they know they have to tempt the market somehow for people to buy it. You may just need the guarantee and remember that you have 2 years EU warranty on any television if you know how to play the consumer law which also under UK law gives you some compensation up to 6 years but I doubt if you pay £130.00 for a Yogi Bear tv from Currys and run it for 23 hours a day you will get much back, if anything in year 5! It can be cost and usage related but my son just had his tv repaired under uk consumer law (not retailer guarantee) at just under 3 years old because he used our laws to his advantage.

For me this is £300.00 you can put towards a brand named tv which has decent reviews and customer satisfaction. This particular brand has some really bad reviews from Australia. Maybe when we actually have a decent level of HD programmes on freeview the time would be right to be thinking about 4k but for now what's the point.

What a lot of rubbish. Put the £300 toward a branded tv? What if you only have £300? It's a big screen hd tv with a 3 year warranty that you don't need to be wall st lawyer to benefit from. The picture and sound might not be quite the same as a £1000 samsung but who really notices when they're watching coronation st or great British bake off at home on a Friday night. I've had a 40" aldi tv for 2 years with no issues. I don't notice any issues with sound or picture. Its just that I'm not a brand snob. Simples.

I know my PS4 is hopeless at doing that, what about when you want to kick back and relax, how's that Netflix 4k doing for ya? YouTube 4k? What about Kodi? Installed OK on it?....

There's a fair few AAA titles available via Shield Gforce Now service if that's your bag but otherwise folk like me use whichever CONSOLE they like to do whichever gaming they fancy.

So by your logic you can't watch SD or HD TV programmes on it either because they run at 576 or 1080....

You hit the magic nail on the head, its called upscaling! The only reason why it might not be suitable for playing games on has nothing to to with resolution but screen response times something that none of us know what it's like on the set yet.

The current generation of consoles can barely output 1080p 30Hz, let alone 4K. A modern gaming PC will output 4K 60Hz no problem.

That being said, HDMI 1.4 is limited to 4K 30Hz, which is fine if you don't intend to use this TV for PC gaming

AND YET AGAIN YOU ARE QUOTING YOUR OWN PERSONAL VIEWS AS FACT! You can't get 4k, we get it! However others can and aren't half blind so what is the point of wasting Richer Sounds time viewing 4k sets watching SD and HD?

4k isn't for you or your missus so move on, there's nothing here for you to see!
Smartguy1
18 Nov 15 #64
Oh yes, my mistake. That means you can stand a foot further away to appreciate the 4k that you may get next year or you may not. What I will do this weekend is go into Richer Sounds who demonstrate televisions properly, i.e. via a sky box so you can appreciate the channels most of us receive in SD and HD. This is how televisions should be presented and not via usb sticks whilst the tv is set in shop mode with demo display. None of us will really such much content like it shows in the store and although it is showing the television to it's maximum potential it is also cheating. That's a bit like programming your car so it knows when it's in a garage so it can automatically change the engine emissions.

At least in Richer Sounds they will show you their tv's on SD and HD which is how most people watch terrestrial television whether via sky or freeview.

And again, that's your circumstances and not everybody else's! Next you'll be claiming that 4k Blu Ray is too expensive when it launches in a couple of months, again its all things relative.

The problem with Vestel btw isn't usually the picture quality, its the quality of components. My father is a TV engineer, 2nd hand parts are often used to repair sets that are more than a couple of years old simply because the model's have been superseded and replaced and parts no longer available so parts are used from other broken sets - just like those bauhn sets you have you've mentioned.

I am sorry but it will be impossible for me to see any improvement because Freeview are not offering any programmes in 4k. Sky are not transmitting either in 4k yet but when they do I will let you know if I can see any difference. Like I said my next tv will probably be 4k but that isn't the reason why I will be buying it.

For this particular post my original comments still stand regarding the tv. The reviews for this brand are terrible. Downloaded the user manual. It was quite interesting the bit at the bottom where it says they may repair the tv using second or refurbished parts !!. The £300.00 would be better placed against a different brand whether that be 1080 or 4k and personally, as much as I have given Vestel some stick, would rather buy a Panasonic made by Vestel. The CX400b 4k had a quite good picture when I was last in Currys, but then again, I was standing 3 feet away from it.
Smartguy1
18 Nov 15 #57
The problem is also is that as you get older images look different. The younger the eyes the clearer the image will be. I need reading glasses now for reading and computer work and recently purchased a lenovo miix3 for weekends away and light use. I bought it mainly as it was a good spec with a 1920 x 1200 screen. Unfortunately the resolution is a little too good and have to reduce it slightly in order to read the windows menu titles even with reading glasses which cannot be adjusted.

I like the fact that technology keeps improving but as the experts prove 4k at 40" isn't really worth it unless you are going to sit 2 feet from the screen so I find it quite odd why this particular post has achieved such hot response when basically it is just a budget tv.

4k at 40" may be perfect as a monitor then but my mum told me that it wouldn't do my eyes any good being too close to the screen. Or is that an old wive's tale lol.

I just checked my phone resolution. It's 2560 x 1440. Hey I nearly got 4k on my phone lol.

Before the BBC, ITV and all of the other channels think about giving us 4k on their channels I think it more important for the rest of the freeview channels to give us HD first.

brookysm
18 Nov 15 1 #56
And not everyone is in the same situation as you, I can see the difference and I can use 4k streaming services!

There seems to be an assumption on this site that cheap 4k means worse than lower end similar priced HD but a few very good quality 4k sets have appeared on here, is this one? Who knows but if its rubbish, take it back - Aldi accept returns! This set is believed to have 2.0 HDMI's so it will work with 4k streaming services and it has a Freeview HD tuner to boot.

Btw just because your not in the ideal distance from the set to benefit from the full amount of detail 4k offers chances are you will still see an improvement over 1080 on an equivalent qualify set.
mike_freegan
18 Nov 15 1 #55
I agree, and I am definitely not a pixel chaser. I won't buy a phone with over 1080p because it is useless. However, I can definitely see the pixels on my 24" 1080p IPS monitor from 2.5 feet away. It just doesn't look as good as my tablet. I can certainly see jagged text when trying to use Windows as a media centre on my 40" TV . In fact, some text is barely legible, even with the text size amplified. It would be horrendous on anything bigger.

I suspect the additional factors in the articles that you linked to (inter-pixel gap) play a much bigger role than the author lets on.
Smartguy1
18 Nov 15 2 #54
That's because some people are easily reeled in or the fact that they bought a 4k tv because they needed a new tv and decided on a 4k one and not necessarily because its 4k. I am after a new tv. If I buy a 4k one it will be because it fits the criteria I want. If it's 1080 then fine also. 4k is absolutely no good to me whatsoever as I would need to buy a 60" tv to see any benefit over my 50" tv. I can't stream from Netflix in 4k as I don't have a fast broadband connection. I have no intention of replacing my bluray player and sky......well sky is just a rip off looking at every angle to charge more money so they can line premiership football players with our cash. By ditching sky my new tv will be free, sort of.

I may go into Currys at the weekend and ask them some 'interesting' questions like is 4k better. Will I see any benefit from more than 6 feet away on a 50" tv or 10 feet away even. Will my standard definition programmes be better. Will my xbox games look better. Can I be sure that it will be a manufacturer's panel in the tv. See what lies they tell me.

Then there are some who just must have the latest technology because they think its better. If that's what they want then fine too but I doubt very much if those people will spend £300.00 on a supermarket tv which is probably best left in the supermarket.

It's not a question of 4k being better for me as currently the tv's I am looking at are 4k because of the models I am looking at and liking. What does get my goat it's another excuse to extort more money from the consumer when in most terms there is no real benefit. It will be interesting to see where sky go with 4k from a charging point of view.

Popular doesn't mean correct. By that logic Justin Beiber is a superior talent to Led Zeppelin.

What you're experiencing is buyer's remorse. The need to defend objects you've bought so as to not look like you make silly decisions. It's a perfectly reasonable reaction, and you're hardly the first person it's happened to.

GPUs have nothing to do with how upscaling functions. They can affect downsampling (fitting a 2K/4K image on a 1080p screen, in order to eliminate anti-aliasing). Do you actually know anything about hardware, or is this all guesswork?

The point is that if this is only has HDMI 1.4, you can't actually get 4k media into it. You'll still be watching / viewing at he same old 1080p. Paying for a ultra high def screen that you can't actually use because the hole in the back only lets 1080p in.

Think of it like building a motorway, but with only one tollbooth for all 5 lanes of traffic. Yeah, you can still use it, but you've wasted your money on building 4 more lanes than you need.

So what people are saying is, if you're going to be watching 1080p anyway, you'd be better going with a standard Samsung or LG that is probably slightly higher quality.

Thanks....Out of curiosity I looked at some specs but they are hard to find proper ones for this set, which rings alarm bells to me as usually it's all '9Trillion this and 5 million Mwhateverhz' but this is 'Mmmmm' what actually is the full spec? Has anyone seen them?

Technology is way too confusing to make any real sense of it and as there seems to be no 'standards' set yet:

From 2014:

And as this set isn't true 4K.

Read earlier it was only HDMI 1.4 and that's what is mentioned on the Bauhn website:
