I had just bought one of these badboys from Maplin for £10 and then noticed this online from Asda. A few quid cheaper.

Fine on a cheap knife, but do not use these on decent knives. The amount of metal they remove is brutal, seriously.

How should we hone our knives, oh knife-master? And the turkey's ready and everybody's already baying for meat-flesh-horror and there's no time to sit cross-legged in our knife-sanctuary pouring sacred oils onto our honing stones?
I'm only being semi-sarcastic as I'm borderline knife freak and think these have their place.

For people like me that haven't been successful at sharpening knifes before with them stones then this makes it a tad easier/effective. Sure you won't turn a knife into a scalpel but it does bring life to a blunt knife

This Asda price is nothing special.. I think they have always been around that price point, sometimes lower. Good bit of kit but as mentioned, dont overdo it as they do shave off a lot from your knives.

I say this every time this goddam knife killer appears! Please don't use this on expensive knives especially Japanese ones like Global. It'll ruin them in an instant. It takes off a lot of metal and the grinding angle is wrong

Goods for cheap knives. Not suitable for decent brands though. My Father In Law destroyed a set of Henckels in 12 months with one of these.

Been using one for over 10 years on the same set of knives and they still seem fine and sharp to me. We get the same discussion every time this sharpener is listed. Zzzzzz

Are these any good on ceramic knives? I've a few that have lost their edge and finding using an oil stone really difficult. They just skid. Any recommendations please?

I just looked here http://www.anysharp.com/en/faq/ and the answer is No. AnySharp knife sharpeners are not designed for ceramic knives and should not be used, as it will damage your knife. For sharpening ceramic knives, please refer to your knife manufacture

Ive had one of these for years. Ditto other comments, it takes a serious amount of metal off. Do not use on anything decent. Brings life back to old blunt cheap knives but dont use it on the quality blades.

Regardless of the 'this is a pile of ****' comments regarding the product, this is £16 on Amazon so it's defo a hot deal.
Bought today at Asda Romford, plenty left.
Wasn't as impressed with it as I thought but I haven't tried properly slicing anything yet. Only £6 so worth a punt before investing in new knives.
As advised above, would probs just be best for bringing some life back to a cheap set of knives
