All primed woodgrain (moulded) doors are £15 online at B&Q. Probably in store as well.

I believe they were £28 or 2 for £40ish before this.

I just wanted to share my experience today. it's very interesting. I posted this on there Facebook page too.

I've already gone through the process of customer service but as with most retailers I doubt my complaint gets far. Today I went to the Gillingham branch in order to get a price difference on an item I'd purchased not even 24 hours earlier that had been reduced by half price. From the moment i walked in there was a look of bewilderment, almost like they were in shock because they need work needed to be done.

I was treated with complete and utter disrespect, disdain from the many people I dealt with. The first thing that was said to me was " it don't work like that mate".

Then i was told to go see someone on another department. He basically stated the same thing, i questioned this so he went off to speak to a manager. After a 10 minute wait he returned to say that's fine just go back to the tradepoint counter and they will sort it out. The person i dealt with then said no problem but needed to call a supervisor.

Bare in mind 2 other colleagues were sat there and heard the whole conversation. The supervisor or so called came along, middle aged woman clearly showing annoyance in her face came up to me and said what can I do for you? Sigh I explained again clearly frustrated. She began to act like she owned the company stating no one asked me to refund anything and she's not going to. Still the 2 colleagues said nothing. I should have asked why are you here then?.

In the mean time one of the colleagues, rat like ,young man with a hat begrudgingly called over a customer. "Over here mate" without even acknowledging him.

The lady supervisor then went off when I explained this had already been authorised, and came back with a man who in his late 40's came rushing to me with a Napoleon complex. He came within 5 inches of my face. Asking me if I bought a suit from m&s would I do the same. Or purchased food would I go back next day if the price dropped. I explained that has nothing to do with it. I realised id see this before, people generally talk down to foreigners, the color of my skin added to treating me like a tramp off the street.

What this person doesn't realise is I have my own business and am well versed in retail. His offer was to bring back all the doors I'd purchased and he would refund me the difference. Therefore he could do it after stating he could but I would have to be inconvinienced. Clearly out of spite.

Here's the thing, instead of diffusing the situation, each person that came escalated the issue. Then he decided he didn't like my attitude, please bare in mind too that now there was at least 10 customers, staff sniggering and me completly embarrassed. Clearly no tact, from any person spoken too. I do not know how each person was put into the positions they had, maybe it was some sort of affirmitive action, but they wanted to puff out there chests and try and make someone feel small. If i was the GM i would be completely embarasssd. Infact if my staff did this they would be dismissed on the spot. Fortunately for them very thick skinned and have no time for it. But I did get so angry, so much so I had my first cigarette in 2 years of not smoking.

What I'd really like to say is I've spent close to 4k in wickes and thank God I did. I've had issues them but always treated with respect, and were resolved amicably. I often ask myself why I and many others despise physical retailers. More of a reason to shop online for me too. With the state of the retail industry left in the hands of people like these no wonder people don't go to physical stores.

Wickes is more expensive but at least your treated like a human. I will never shop in b&q again, not tradepoint. I maybe one customer but at least I know a penny will not go from my pocket.

You were happy with the price you paid the day before, when you made the purchase? If you weren't, you'd have gone elsewhere.

So, without being funny, I can't see what your problem is. Prices get changed all the time. Some you win, some you lose. It's up to B&Q whether they discount you retrospectively.

Sill question but can these be painted/decorated or would I be better with the un treated pine one?

We have all our kids heights on the back of our kitchen door and I want to transfer them onto a new door that can be painted so it can be wall mounted and kept as a family height chart.

Might sound silly to some but it's something I really want to have to keep

Not silly at all.

These ones at £15 are in primer and are meant to be painted. There are pre-painted ones for £27.
They're pretty light weight as well so easily moved about/mounted.

bought this few weeks ago, cut too much of one of the sides by accident. I could then see inside the door and it looks like its stuffed with cardboard! Don't think you could even attach a handle to it and certainly not the type of handle that you push down on to open the door. It does look okay and it was easy for me to hang, but only 4mm trim allowed either side
fonzie2107 to debschillen
14 Nov 15 2 #28
Pretty much all moulded doors are this construction - honeycomb type card inside.

You should be able to trim around 5mm from then width and 30mm from the BOTTOM. Nothing from the top.

Completely agree. We've had a similar experience with B&Q and I don't buy anything there now apart from an odd bit of timber that will not be returned. Wickes CS is amazingly better and I'm much happier to spend my cash there, as I know I won't be treated like s**t.

I completely empathise with you. I had a terrible experience when I travelled 10 miles for something that was in stock on their online system and showed in stock only to be told that it wasn't in stock when i tried to find it. I was treated awfully by staff and manager didn't even make it to customer service desk when I complained as they were in a meeting. Had several people come to the desk who couldn't help and when I asked for a price match on a similar item they said that they can't do it and said it wasn't their fault that the computers are wrong and were very rude about it. There were no apologies and they really do need training in customer care. In the mean time some other guy next to me was also having a nightmare with their customer service also waiting for the manager that never appeared. Absolutely hate B&Q now. Will never go back there.
Ghulam35 to ayaz51

I had a similar reaction from the staff at the Huddersfield store a couple of years ago, I had reserved a Weber compact BBQ for clock and collect, when I reserved it said this item will be available to collect the next day.

However after a few hours I get a call that they have the item in stock now and can't reserve it till the next day, I point out that it said it will be available to collect next day and I am out of town now and might not make it back before the store closes but I am told that the item is on sale and high demand that if I want it then I will have to come half an hour before store closes.

So I rush back to Huddersfield, get there at 19.15, 45 mins before store closes and then I'm told that the item is now unavailable by a confused staff member who is puzzled and tries to investigate. He was very helpful and calls a manager, a lady manager comes and apologises saying there must have been a system error and to try again the next day. I tell her about the phone call and make it known that I'm not happy with the service, she calls the manager whose made the phone call. he comes down and says tough you missed out on the item and how he made it clear that item is in high demand.

I tell him that you said get there before half 7 and I can have it, and that this whole process has been ridiculous along with the service and his attitude. He gets angry and come towards me with his face all gone red and comes very close to my face and starts shouting then shoves me and says there's the exit door and don't make him do something he'll regret. At this point the store manager and another colleague pulls him back and tells him to go to the office.

Then comes to me and says sorry but we don't have the item and can't do anything about it and apologises for the other managers behaviour saying he will be dealt with and tells me that's the end of discussion and walks away.

Since that day I have never been back to b&q and don't plan to go there anyone soon either

I had the same problem earlier this year, I ordered a bathroom suite on a Wednesday for it to be delivered the following Tuesday. On the Saturday, before it had been delivered, the price had dropped £50 so I went back and asked for the difference back and quoted the B&Q price promise. They told me I couldn't get the money back but after showing them the price promise terms 'if you find it cheaper anywhere within 10 miles' and pointing out there was another B&Q 5 miles away they gave in.

I probably wouldn't have gone back for the difference if I'd already taken delivery of the goods but if they offer a price promise guarantee then they have to honour it.

Ironically enough yes' I have both...
These ' eggshell ' doors I have upstairs as bedroom doors - solid wooden doors for downstairs' reasons? Well the cheap doors are good enough for upstairs and don't get used a lot plus they are only seen by the occupants of the house where as downstairs the doors get used all the time plus I prefer the doors that get seen by others to be seen as being good ( not cheap ) just my way

As I mentioned these look great when up and they are cheap - I voted hot because they are a fair price - all depends on what you want and can afford at the end of the day..

I bought a sink/bath drain cleaner pump (looks like ballon pump) from Poundland and it had a slight fault on one of the componenets which meant one of the edges of one of the nparts was slightly angled, pump worked fine wee fault would not and did not affect it. Was in a B&Q a couple of weeks later and saw the sam type of pump, it had exactly the same fault as the ones in Poundland, the only difference was in the colour of the plastic and the fact that the B&Q one was £9.99. No wonder so many B&Q`s have closed over the last 10 years.

Well it isn't really up to them is it? If you are within the returns period you can quite easily buy at the lower price and return the previous purchase. That's why most retailers see sense and retrospectively refund within the returns period. By refusing to do so, they are just being unnecessarily obstructive and will likely lose a future customer (as well as the customer getting the lower price anyway).

However, that aside, the bigger issue is the way they dealt with the situation. And I have to say it chimes with my experience with B&Q. Rude, abusive and confrontational staff.

In my local stores staff turn and run in the other direction when a customer approaches to ask a question. I've asked for assistance and been told to wait in the aisle only for no one to turn up.

On several occasions I've walked back and forth to the CS desk, they've made an announcement, no one turns up and after wasting 30-40 mins been told the staff member is on lunch (or some other excuse). The whole time I try to stop staff walking by and they've shown little or no interest (if they haven't tried to turn around and walk the other way to avoid doing some work), apparently its not their department.

The previous posters comment that they behave as if they own the business rings very true. And when challenged with patently unacceptable behaviour they became rude and dismissive.

I've complained to store management and sometimes been treated dismissively, at other times been assured they would address the issues. But over the years little or nothing has changed. I now only use them if its the only alternative. As its bad enough being treated like they are doing you a favour by taking your money, but being treated in a rude and dismissive manor is simply unacceptable.

Wrong.

The vast majority of those working in retail are quite intelligent, the rules however they have to follow leave a lot to be desired.

Any common sense retail employees have gets left at the door when they start there shift, it just simply isn't worth the hassle from management when 'caught out' thinking outside the box when defusing situations.

Managers are very reluctant to deal face-to-face with customers, there quite simply too busy, and leave staff to deal with situations like the one described in this thread, very simple really to defuse that situation, but is totally against the company policy, HO getting wind of that would mean a reprimand to the employee, faced with that scenario what would you prefer, dealing with an irate customer for 5 minutes or a reprimand from senior management and your employment history possibly tarnished?

Best time to visit B&Q et al is Mon-Fri 1100-1200 or 1600-1700, more chance of finding a full-time employee who actually has control over his/her department.
Outwith these hours increase the chance of getting a part-time worker there for beer money, nothing against them but see above re leaving common sense at the door.

I used to work for B&Q. I never received any training. Thrown on a till and had to learn on the job. And that till system was pretty complex and there would be weekly changes.

I got thrown onto the tradepoint and i could answer zero of the questions. But i requested to not go there as i was conscious of my inability to staff that point.

Customer service wise i had utter respect for the people that worked on that desk as some customers were very difficult but the employees were very accomodating. In fact, one thing i noticed about my fellow workers in that branch was that they were all so enthusiastic and helpful. There are some idiots lower in the food chain but that is to be expected. I still remember that place as a nice place to work for with decent pay.

I'd used a £5 off £50 spend voucher, in fact spent about £57. Realised I'd been over charged £6 on an item. CS wanted to return about £5.20 due to voucher returns being a percentage. Couldn't understand it was their fault.

Same as others was pretty much told they couldn't issue a refund of a difference in afire place that I paid £70 on and was now £30.
Eventually they did without me returning it.

Half the issue is if you get a refund for an item not instore, if your repayment fails they are stuck.

That's the thing, i wonder what the lower frames thickness is? I guess if i cut so much so that it goes into the hollow part i'd need to get a piece of wood so fill that gap which will prob cost as much as the door lol.

Although I sympathise with you considering your treatment by the staff of this particular store, it is likely that the attitude taken by them could be local, or even cultural. I have been dealing with B & Q, here in Scotland for many years, at times travelling long distances to source a product. At no time have I ever experienced the type of "non - service" you have described. Frankly, the complete opposite. Always courteous, friendly and certainly professional. Try not to adopt the feeling that the few are indicative of all. Go to another store(s) and try it out. Best of luck

You use the bit of wood in the piece you have cut off, needs a bit of craft and skill with bags of patience but it can be done.

Ah yes totally forgot you can reuse the wood frame you cut off. Excellent, it will be a easy job for me then.

If you put into google "b&q doors £15" and click the shopping tab, you can find them on the website that way.
They don't seem to be searchable on the actual website.
Delivery is £5 if you order online.

If these are primed, does that mean that no undercoat is required - you can just go ahead and paint the doors? Just wondering how long these doors should be left for the paint to go really hard - so that they will close without smudging/marking any of the paint? I contacted a carpenter a couple of years ago for a quote to fit some of these doors (never got them done at the time though) - the carpenter said he would charge me £20 to fit/hang each door - does that seem a bit expensive per door? Thank you.
fonzie2107 to Sophiasky
18 Nov 15 #85
I don't know about other people, but I never undercoat them.
Just make sure they are clean, dust free and the surface is ok.
As for drying times that will depend on the paint and how how thick it's coated.

£20 to come hang one door is a good price imo.
mickey_brock to Sophiasky
18 Nov 15 #88
hi , it depends on when you asked for the quote for the doors to be hung and fitted , it depends when you got the quote £20 for each door maybe if you had 4 or 5 doors to be fitted then the price might of came down , theres a lot of work to be done when fitting a door from what ive seen , im not a carpenter but ive had doors hung in the past and it took the man a few hours with getting it just right in the door frame

It's much easier with two people thats for sure. It also helps if the frame is straight and regular, alot aren't :stuck_out_tongue:

dan73 you weren't there so don't try and turn this into something else. Racism is commonplace unfortunately. If it were reversed and an foreign person acted that way to say a white person I would consider it racism too. I'm not trying to gain political votes, I'm just telling you what happened.

Sorry to ask this and might seem daft

I already have some of the pre painted doors that I bought years ago but never got round to fitting them most still in packaging. They have been stored inside the house but my question is do they warp over time if been sat?

Thanks in advance
fonzie2107 to cocobwoy
18 Nov 15 #94
It depends how they have been stored. If they were stacked flat, then they will likely be ok, but if they were lent at an angle (e.g against a wall) they might have warped. I doubt it because of the actual construction and weight of them.

Just a hypothetical but if somebody was looking to use old but unopened doors and suddenly discovered they were warped - said person could purchase new identical ones and return the old ones to the store.
I must add that is only a hypothetical and not a suggestion :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you for the advice and your kind suggestion....I will ponder on that "hypothetical" scenario :stuck_out_tongue:
