George R. R. Martin's critically acclaimed 'A Song of Ice and Fire' has become one of the greatest fantasy epics of modern times combining the medieval background with supernatural elements, battles and political intrigue taking place on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos.

It's criminal the speed at which this series is being written. Since A Storm of Swords in 2000, he's manged 2 books in 15 years! And when you consider Erikson knocked out the 10 book Malazan series in the same time... well, shows it can be done with a bit of effort :stuck_out_tongue:

I love 'Game of Thrones' but really hope GRRM writes at his own speed, when he is inspired; and not to a schedule that his publisher pushes upon him just to keep the revenues up. Good for you George, do it your way!

Yeah George RR Martin is a really slow writer, when he's written shorts to go in books with other authors he holds the release up.
If you're interested in another fantasy series I highly recommend The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher its like a grown ups Harry Potter but better. Magic is real Harry Dresden is a PI and a wizard as high undertakes his adventures and clashes with monsters to do the right thing he even ends up being noticed by an Archangel, wields Hellfire helping his friend Chicago PD Detective Karin Murphy save lives & kick the monsters butt.
There are loads of books in the series already and he's still writing them, they're also available on Audible read by the fantastic James Masters.

Usually I would agree with you. But in this instance the delay is all of his own making. The series was originally planned as a trilogy, but he's let the story get away from him by adding too many POVs. Most readers will admit the story has become unwieldy and slowed down since book 3, and witness the bizarre geographical split in book 4. He's lost either the interest or the will to finish it now. Shame, as I think the first 3 books are some of the finest fantasy ever written.

I'm sure it's cheaper than this in store at the moment, I walked passed the one in Meadowhall and remember seeing it. Perhaps I'm mistaken, I'll have to have a look if I'm there again soon. Heat anyway!

It is amusing when GRRM is defended by people saying "I just hope he takes his time and continues to produce material of such a high quality" . It's quite obvious to anyone not a 'superfan' that the longer he takes to write a book the **** it is.
Joe Abercrombie is the best writer in fantasy at the moment. Get the First Law trilogy or for an easier introduction get the Shattered Sea trilogy, they're both great.
Abercrombie has released his second trilogy in the time it's taken for GRRM to release..........nothing(unless you count his intro/editing for Wildcraps or his 'encyclopaedia')!!!
