if you are in the market for the new iPad pro then John Lewis are offering 3 years free guarantee with the new iPad pro,but what's even better IMO is that for only £49 you can cover the giant sized tablet for 3 years of accidental cover, which also includes 30 days per year of cover abroad,so no worries if you drop it while you are drunk or fall into the swimming pool with it.

Now I know Apple do their own apple care but it costs £79 for only 2 years and you have to pay £39 if you make a claim, where John Lewis do not make you pay a penny if you have to claim.

I'm sure this will go cold because it is Apple related but as long as it helps someone out then that's all that matters.

Oddly placed deal....its in "computers" category but this is just a warranty enhancement - correct me if I'm wrong?.

While we're on about the iPad pro though....what a feckin expensive bit o kit!. I'm sure it's nice enough to use as far as desktop screen size goes but it's hardly going to be comfortable as a couch surfer for a few hours continued use....so that's the pockets and the wrists damaged.
Biggunspaul to DAZZ2000
13 Nov 15 1 #7
Why is it odd,I would think an iPad would come under computing and to get the free 3 years you need to buy an iPad pro,so the overal package will consist of an iPad an extra warranty.

If i have wrongly categorised it then I'm more than happy for a mod to amend it.

I would recommend going for the 128gb model,as I don't think you will have much usable storage on the 32gb model as the 128gb one I have only leaves you with 114gb to use.
M0nk3h
14 Nov 15 #14
The 32GB will be sufficient for some people. You'll have about 25gb useable which will be more than enough.
Biggunspaul
14 Nov 15 #15
If you want to take full advantage of what the pro can do such as 4K video editing then the 128gb model would be better, but yeah if you aren't going to use it to do such things then the 32gb maybe fine.

Personally I don't think 128gb is still that much these days with photo and video quality improving and taking up more space.i would have liked to have seen 256gb or 512gb like the surface pro,as let's not forget these tablets are being marketed as laptop replacements.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a great deal, voted hot, but if the iPad Pro is a business purchase then _accidental cover_ is a waste of £49.00
As you _won't_ be covered in the event of an accident.
Nicolidus to deany76

If, for example, you drop it and the screen breaks...how would they know it was business use? If they ask, just smile and say no, just for Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies.

That's a good deal, starting price isn't bad either, I remember paying around £650 iirc for my first iPad 1 64gb which is still going strong, ok on ios5 but it works and have plenty of apps working on it, my daughter has it now. Heat

Agharta to barryl85
14 Nov 15 2 #24
Because IOS is a purely touch focused operating system with the largest choice of professional grade apps. Whereas Windows 10 is a hybrid operating system with a comparatively tiny choice of touch optimised apps.
I am no Apple fan and think this is a niche product but at least it has decent software support which is why you buy hardware in the first place.

I agree and i own an iPad, mac and iPhone. Theres nothing pro about it, it has great specs but is essentially just a bigger iPad. They should of put a hybrid of OSX and iOS on it. IOS cripples what it should be.

I've had to email John Lewis as although the website said it was 3 years-1 Apple and 2 JL- the emailed warranty only says 2 years one Apple one JL.
No reply from John Lewis yet but will update for your info

14 Nov 15 1 #29
You can just set up an email reminder when they get stock. They usually get products in quite quickly.
Biggunspaul to CouchPotatoe
14 Nov 15 #41
Keep checking the stock every half an hour or so as it changes all the time.

when I ordered mine on Wednesday, when the ordering first went live each model would go out of stock within 2 or 3 minutes, yet as soon as most of the stock had gone, the models that were supposedly out of stock came back in stock again.took me about 2 hours of messing around to bag one.

Already today the stock has changed a few times, and ones that were out of stock have come up for sale again.

actually the pro 3 has sold tones of units, if apple wanted to go after the surface pro with the iPad pro they shouldn't of put iOS on it. It brings nothing new to the table. Don't get me wrong i own 3 apple products but i just don't see the point in this, theres nothing pro about it

Considering that OSX has no touch optimization and neither do OSX applications what exactly do you expect Apple to use instead of iOS?

As for the suffix Pro, who cares, it just hints that it's the top of their line which it is in their Tablet range. Hardly worth getting ones knickers in a twist over.

Some people may need split screen multi-tasking. I guess the "Pro" is meant for enterprise and new enterprise apps.
roloboy
14 Nov 15 #42
I would disagree but it depends on your user case. I found it distracting reading magazines on the iPad Air as I had to pinch and zoom at everything .. It's a different case now.
Agharta to roloboy
14 Nov 15 #46
A case of badly designed software requiring excessive hardware specs to cover for deficiencies. I think such a bulky and expensive device just to read magazines is absurd.
StillTheFlyest
14 Nov 15 #43
I think the pro hints at the processor/ram and screen. The processor is better the core m and iirc similar to the recent core i5, which is pretty good, 4gb ram is great for iOS and screen is better than a 15" retina MacBook Pro? Not sure about that one. The pen is faster and more accurate than a surface.

... But if I'm honest I'm trying to convince myself I need a iPad pro with the above reply, other than that I'm not sure it's a pro either.
Mattevansc3
14 Nov 15 #44
That's up for debate. The main benchmark available for testing ARM and x86/64 processors is Geekbench and that's been proven to skew results in favour of ARM processors via its inclusion of SHA1 and SHA2 results. These are governmental security protocols and see little use in consumer or professional applications.

If you were to remove the SHA protocols the scores would show a different picture altogether.

A heads up on the three year warranty. It looks like it's two years. I had to query it with John Lewis as the emailed guarantee said one extra year after Apples year. It appears the website is wrong but I've got to make a phone call tomorrow to progress this.

Strange as I have spoken to John Lewis about my guarantee and they confirmed I had 3 years with the iPad pro and that I also had paid £49 that cover me for 3 years accidental damage.
Biggunspaul to dgreensuperhoops
15 Nov 15 #49
It also clearly states that the offer ends 18th November.

If they say it is a mistake I would be VERY surprised that they wouldn't honour it when you have purchased the item and it clearly states what you get.legaly I bet they wouldn't have a leg to stand on of you have have the iPad in your hands/it's been shipped as the 3 years is part of the deal.

Let's face it,it's John Lewis we are talking about here and their top notch customer service, not big bobs back street electricals

Biggunspaul
15 Nov 15 #56
It covers you you for accident damage and breakdowns for 3 years and is on offer for £49 on all the iPad pro range ,it was £99.

I'm sure you can add it on as you are within the period which John Lewis allow you to return the iPad.

Here is the details from the John Lewis site about the damage cover.

Add to your peace of mind with breakdown and accidental damage insurance for your technology

Includes

Accidental damage
If your product is damaged accidentally, Added Care means you won’t have to pay for repairs.

Breakdown
If your product breaks down during the John Lewis guarantee period we’ll get you up and running, at no extra cost. Added Care allows you to enjoy that same level of protection for a total of 3 years.

New for old replacement
If we can’t repair your product, we’ll arrange for it to be replaced with one of the same make and model. Or, when not available, one of a similar specification.

No excess
If your product is accidentally damaged and you need to make a claim, there are no excess charges to pay and it won’t affect your home or travel insurance policies.

Worldwide cover
Your product is covered for accidental damage outside the UK for a period of up to 30 days in any 12 month period.

Collection or at-home repairs
Depending on the product, we’ll either collect it by courier for repair or arrange a call-out by one of our authorised and accredited technicians.

Hi. I received an email saying that as stated by their representative on the phone it is a three year warranty but they are unable to reissue the warranty email. I emailed back immediately saying that I do want a new warranty email( increases resale value) and that wasn't what the representative said at all to me but they haven't, as yet, had the decency to reply.

As an aside, I don't get notified of responses on the HotUkDeals app, I just happened to look by chance. Should I be being notified? Cheers
Biggunspaul
17 Nov 15 #63
That's good to hear.

I think you will like the iPad pro,I'm loving mine (128gb in gold) and the screen on my iPad Air 2 looks tiny after using the pro,the pro is also so much faster.

Just now waiting for my smart keyboard and pencil to turn up.
dgreensuperhoops
17 Nov 15 #64
I know what you mean about the air screen looking small now! I used to own a Note Pro 12.2 so knew what to expect with the iPad pro size. I think the sound that comes out the speakers is great, good volume and generally good enough quality for playing music, , radio etc through.
Yeah I'm happy with my iPad pro, just waiting for delivery of a case for it as I'm terrified I'll drop it and smash the screen
Biggunspaul
17 Nov 15 #65
That's the good thing about the accidental damage cover from John Lewis,it's not a big deal if you do damage the screen.

And yeah the sound quality of the speakers is great, just a shame there seems to be an issue where the keyboard typing volume is so quiet.
dgreensuperhoops
17 Nov 15 #66
I've rung JL and paid my £49 for the damage cover. Sounds pretty good. I guess smashing the screen or pouring a glass of water over it would cost a pretty penny to fix. Cheers for the heads up. Still wish my case would hurry up though as I like having my iPads in a case with a kickstand.
Biggunspaul to dgreensuperhoops
17 Nov 15 #67
Oh yes it's a very good deal, especially when you consider that Apple will charge you an excess of £39 on any claim and that's on top of the £79 they charge for only 2 years of cover.

My quick calculations work it out to cost only £1.36 per month for the accidental damage cover from John Lewis, and that's for an iPad costing up to £900.
Biggunspaul
18 Nov 15 #68
