Saw these at Poundstretcher in Leigh. Massive 1kg box of assorted shortbread. No idea what they're like- I got a few for presents, which they look pretty good for the money :)

Dog turd?? Newbold, calm down  I get it that you're purist about your shortbread, and agree that Aldi's shortbread ain't half bad- but for a present I can hardly sellotape half a dozen packs of Aldi shortbread together and say ' thanks, Merry Xmas!' Obvs, if it was you I definitely would  as it is, I'll stick some red ribbon on this, drop it off with a bottle, and seeing as mostly they have smart price biscuits, they'll be happy
All depends what you want to buy for- and for me, it's just the job

Shortbread? Scottish? Director's Selection?
This is not what any normal person would regards as shortbread. A true Scot would choke on it. And it would have to be a pretty ropey Director that selected it - perhaps David Cameron?
For goodness sake - almost all the butter's been replaced with vegetable (probably palm) oil. Compare that with Aldi ALL BUTTER shortbread - just 49p for 210gms. Rather lower price than this muck - which I see they've been trying to shift since the Summer!

Ye, not disagreeing with you, newbold and Groovii D. I make my own shortbread, there's nothing to it. But I've got these to drop off to work contacts, at offices for them to have with their morning cuppa, and at under 3 quid, they look the part. Just measured box, 44cmx32cm, so they look a bit special.

But as soon as they've seen that they're made with vegetable oil, don't they feel you've cheapskated them? I'm not sure many people would be taken in by a tin once they've read what's inside it! A dog turd in a tin is still a dog turd!

There are Shortbreads and there are ?????? anyone who really cares about the person they wish to give Shortbread to as a GIFT should buy either Deans Shortbread or M&S they both come in gift tins and are as good as you can get at a fair price.
