Just thought I'd let people know that the code 'mpi55' works to give £50 off and if you're a student you're probably eligible to get Windows 8.1 through Microsoft's Dreamspark program to save even more. I used this to get my current laptop using the last of my student loan.

This might help make up people's mind between one model and another or get a better component and makes this an even better deal for anyone interested.

The latest code that was posted here was

MPI55

The one before it was

MPI54

I think there's possibly a theme to it so worth trying

MPI56 or MPI57

I've no idea where you put the codes in on their website.

UPDATE:

Got my laptop from PC specialist (Octane 2: Intel 6700 + Nvidia 970m + DDR4 RAM) few weeks ago and did a stress test on it. Very impressed with the performance and the noise is much lower than what I expected. Same noise as my last laptop (Medion Akoya: Intel 3230m + Nvidia 640m) even when playing games (Dragon Age: Inquisition in Ultra settings) with external monitor mirroring at the same time. Does not get very warm, I think the 6th gen 14nm desktop CPU and the latest Nvidia mobile graphics is a good match for my needs. Brought the laptop at a friends house and played Dragon Age while waiting for dinner. Good times

"Many people argue in favor of consoles by pulling the "exclusives" card. What they don't realize is, making that argument speaks entirely against consoles. In order to get the "exclusives" they always argue about(they often list things like Last of Us, Legend of Zelda, and RYSE nevermind, RYSE came to PC after Xbox One almost bankrupted Crytek), they would have to buy each and every console that those games belong to, bringing their budget well beyond $1,000.

Even putting $500 into a PC will get you a system more powerful than each, with the full library of even the most demanding PC titles. PC has the most exclusives for a reason, though. Due to the healthy, open, and competitive PC market, independent developers tend to gravitate toward the PC. Console companies are generally hostile toward independent developers and not nearly as many can easily make their game available to console markets. With things like GOG, Steam, torrent sites (No, really! Indie developers and artists have used ThePirateBay for distribution on many occasions), and Desura, developers have millions of PC gamers they can reach without spending a single dime.

To play every console exclusive, you would have to buy both consoles anyways (yes, the largest argument is 'console' exclusives not 'PlayStation' or 'XBox', just 'console)... which puts your price point over that of a PC. Not to mention, consoles are what trudged in and created the exclusivity issue in the first place, hoping that you'd reward them for it and buy into their cancerous ecosystem. In a situation where you have a choice of many, pick the best of the group: PC."

Your page is not loading. Please tell us specs of your suggestion

The point of my comment is to try and tell those who are just looking for a gaming laptop, that the performance of this laptop is mediocre in games to say the least. They see Gtx 960m and get impressed, but it has nothing to do with a Gtx 960. They will be buying something equal to a Gtx 750. And, finally, to offer an alternative.

While I understand the obvious, i.e. Laptop=portability, with £600 you can build yourself a kickass gaming desktop. The 960M is equal or slightly faster than a Gtx 750, which for modern games is a mediocrity. I have the feeling that many bros here would be better off with a desktop. Just get the cheapest 1150 Mothetboard (£40), 500w corsair psu (£40), i3 cpu (£80), 8gb ddr3 ram (£30), ssd (£50), 24 inch monitor (£100), cheapo gaming case (£40), (£380 up to now), and the best graphics card you can afford. If £600 is the budget, then you can get a Gtx 970 for around £220. That would play games like a £2K laptop.
ollie87 to traxevc2002
23 Nov 15 #62
This has already been stated elsewhere by OP (i.e. me). Personally I'd avoid the low-end Corsair PSUs (the CX Series are crap)

If I was using £600 to build a Gaming desktop it'd be: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/DXQtZL. Which would give room for future upgrades - that CPU will be good for gaming for the next 4-5 maybe even 6 years.

If I was building one with a monitor, keyboard and mouse I'd build this: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/YnvTK8

But that's not the point of this deal, the point being you'll struggle to find a laptop with these specs for less.

Surely two can't be compared.. One is gaming machine and other is a ultrabook lasting over 10 hours primed for business/photography tasks etc. You get Mac book air for how small and convenient it is to work with.

On this laptop, great spec for great price.
Accacin to antonywhite37

How is this remotely comparable to a Macbook Air? People I know who own MBAs buy it for the weight and portability. They don't buy it to play games. However, I do agree for the money it's a decently spec'd machine that will be able to play newer games at medium/high with no problems.

A couple of years back I bought my current laptop from PC Specialist. It is an Optimus V and I have found it to be great. The only problem was that it had a noisy fan, but I gather they have fixed that in later versions. (I installed a custom bios and it made my fan quieter)

And can play way more games. Has more exclusive titles than any games console ever. You don't have to pay to play online. You don't have to have a HDTV.

Do you? I'm serious, PC games have options for running games at lower quality to maintain 60fps, something consoles lack with their 900p 30fps scaled up to 1080p. Sure you'll need to upgrade it at some point, as you will with the PS4 and Xbone but it's already way ahead of the power of the Xbone and PS4.
