"0% for 36 months on balance transfers, with a fee of 2.39%
Move a balance from another credit or store card and get 36 months at 0% to pay it of"
You are definitely new in this game if you compare your virgin CC with this ...
Say you have £10,000 balance to transfer, it will cost you £239.00 with Virgin CC while this one cost you
£0.

Be nice to see if anyone ever gets these so called great deals.

So only people with crap credit scores qualify ?

Banks don't make any money whatsoever on people with perfect credit score who manage their budget responsibly. I bet they even make a loss on managing accounts like this.
Banks do however make sh*tloads of money on people with poor credit score who spend more than they have, pay 30% interest and late payment charges every couple of months.
I think this answers your question.

Yes I did but got 6 bottles of wine free for transferring £500 so I did pay £11 but got the wine for free win win oh and it was Hardys Nottagehill 14% cheapest price Asda £5 most places about £8 a bottle 6 x £5 = £30 I paid £11. so I think I got the better deal by far!
Just noticed you have to transfer £1000 now but that's still better unless you don't drink wine

I love it. People are in debt so they introduce a credit card that allows you to stay in debt and then give you alcohol as a reward. And people wonder why we had a financial crisis!

5 Nov 15#52
Heat added, good deal, not one that I can or will take advantage of though as I'm currently with a Barclaycard 0% BT deal for another 28 months give or take.
The longer deal with mine meant a lower monthly payment even after the 2.29% fee, thus meaning I could manage my monthly payments easier.

Which if you're like that makes your decision to get rid of credit cards very sensible, but doesn't apply to everyone! I've never bought anything on a credit card that I wouldn't have bought anyway, they are merely to change my payment method to earn rewards - that £1000+ I've earnt is effectively free money for doing very little!
In your defense you were offering advice and not explicitly saying "don't do it", but I'm a bit fed up of loads of people online acting like credit cards are from the devil and should be avoided. And back to your original question, the best rewards card depends on your credit record, who you bank with and what rewards you want.
muffboy
5 Nov 15#39
These are great for offset mortgage purposes, especially for those who pay off their usual credit card bill in full. Transfer balance to one of these each month and leave the money sitting in your current account offsetting. Best one's are where you can transfer fee free for the duration, not just 1st 90 days or so.
jezzery to muffboy
5 Nov 15#43
You can get round that by transferring the max limit of this card to a credit card that allows a positive balance. Then transfer that into your offset mortgage account so you don't pay interest on it.

You can reject credit limit increases on absolutely any credit card. If you get a card from anyone with a limit of more than £1000 and ask them to reduce it, there's no logical reason whatsoever they'd refuse to do so (the only caveat is if you wait a while some companies will occasionally give you another credit check and could refuse on the basis of your credit record).
I'm also not sure why your lack of self control should mean anything to other people. I've only been using cards for about 5 years yet have saved/earnt well over £1000...

Just standard fair now, basically copied off the Halifax deal from 2m ago which offered 22m int free /6m int free on purchases and no fees.
They also offered either £25 or £35 cashback on quidco
so this is actually much worse

jazlabs to sprite127594
5 Nov 151#33
If you don't already have a credit card then this one is probably no good for you as the main benefit is the fee-free (and interest free) balance transfer. Balance transfers are for transferring the debt from another credit card (that you may be paying interest on and don't want to pay off in full) to this card so you can pay it off over a longer period without paying any interest.
Credit cards are absolutely worth having as many offer benefits such as cashback, interest free periods, reward points (claimable as vouchers / holidays / flights etc). If you are buying things with cash or debit card when you could be using a benefits credit card then you're effectively losing out. Having a credit card and not missing any payments also helps build a good credit record making you more credible for better offers or for mortgage applications.

trust me if I could go back 20 years I would now not bother. Have none now but easy to get in dept with I realise it is self control but you start with a 500 limit and they keep increasing it till it gets to the point you spend more than you can pay back without using it again.
they do have the advantage of covering you for purchases and i would like one which gives 1K limit and never increases it. so if anyone knows of one please let me know cash back would be good to it will just be use and pay in full end of month.
So now if I cannot afford it I borrow off me mum  (only for car problems) I realise not everyone can borrow.

I had credit card cheques so it was easy, but you can just transfer the maximum allowed to another credit card, taking it to a credit balance, then getting the other credit card company to pay that money back to your bank account
jazlabs
5 Nov 151#19
I can't see it and it doesn't explicitly say in the terms and conditions, however their definition of a Balance Transfer in the T&Cs would suggest it would only be allowed to 'reduce' a debt rather than add to your credit, but surely that would include anyone in their overdraft?
"Balance Transfer – a payment we make on your request to another organisation which pays off or reduces the amount that you owe to that other organisation excluding any Bank of Ireland Group company;"
Technically this would be a Money Transfer - but there's no mention of that at all in the T&Cs, so possibly not allowed.
jazlabs
5 Nov 15#18
Note that you can't use this to transfer to any other Bank of Ireland issued cards, so if your credit card is issued by a provider that uses Bank of Ireland as the card issuer, then you won't be able to use this deal. I believe this includes Post Office cards, but there is probably a long list. Just double check before applying

Cameron must be doing a good job with the economy, HUKD is rife with interest free credit card deals! Just need the 105% mortgage deals and credit crunch 2.0 is on the horizon! . Disclaimer; I'm joking... Unless of course JC is elected!
I should add for the sake of staying on topic; this is a fantastic deal. If you have a balance on a credit card and paying interest, or you have an interest free purchase card nearing the end of the interest free period, apply now!
Has anyone confirmed if you can transfer into a current account as a loan alternative? Don't want it for myself, but may help the community if anyone has gone through the terms.

A good deal if you get a high enough credit limit. Best deal I ever got was from an MBNA card who gave me a £14k limit (those crazy times before the credit crunch) and a max fee of £75. Put 95% of my credit limit into my offset mortgage for a year, saved quite a bit!
