Brought 50 x Wild Bird Fat Balls from B&M stores yesterday and available online for £3.99. Yes, that's right 50 fat balls for £3.99, birds loving them in the feeders this morning and they are net free!! Get in grab a bucket or two!!
yes better without nets, birds don't get caught up and they are ideal for smaller birds, like Dunnock that trying store fat reserves for the cold weather ahead. This morning had coal tits, Blue tits, small dunnock all pecking away to hearts content over these net free fat balls, don't get little feet stuck in the nets - So Net free all way!!

Are they better without nets? Or are we supposed to remove the nets from netted ones?

The bucket is also useful for all sorts of things. Mine I have pond stuff in one and another is a decanter for Molly's dog food.

For anyone wanting netted balls, they're 49p for 6 (£3.92 for 48) which is pretty good value as well.

i put up a bird table back in March and hung some fat filled shells up. it was fine for a few weeks a whole variety of birds were making use of it. Then the bloody magpies and the feral pigeons showed up and scared everything else away so that was that. I'll probably take it to the local tip!

Used to have the same problem until we put sturdy plastic trellis/mesh (gaps about 5 x 5cm or less) on all 4 sizes, with one side hinged for access. Allows smaller birds on to the food platform and prevents the big greedy flying rats!

I hang these in a feeder from the big tree on our garden for the Sparrows and the Blue Tits and Great Tits, also put some meal worms and crushed fat balls on the floor for the Robin, Blackbirds and a Dunnock I've seen hoping about, then throw some on to a flat shed roof, so it keeps the Wood Pigeons, Magpies and Starlings away from the feeders, but believe it or not we also have Seagulls.
