A great weekend away in Verona. Lovely city to visit and would highly recommend a Verona card if you plan to visit a number of attractions as this can be very worthwhile money. The arena is great to visit even if there is no opera on, as is the castle and there are some great restaurants to eat at in Verona too.
The example is based on a weekend in November, leaving on a Friday and returning on a Sunday. I would recommend, if time allows, extending your stay and catching the bus to Lake Garda, however Verona is a great city and worth a few days in itself. Example is using a B&B in a central location and has free bike rental which is great for getting around Verona and is in a great location. There are plenty of accommodation options around this price, some further out of the city. Verona is a very walkable place so you can change options to suit.

I caught the public bus and I think it took around 2hrs stopping at various points along the way (it was in the summer months so was busy). You can get your tickets on board or at Tourist Info.
just be careful around the arena if you see people dressed as Roman soldiers, unbeknown to us this service is not free, and they just walked over and said did we want a pic, afterwards they demanded 5 euros, I said no, it all got a bit nasty and the police had to come over

That's unfortunate to hear, I hope you were OK, doesn't sound like a pleasant experience. When we were there there was lots of people dressed up as there was equipment arriving in preparation for the opera and we got many pictures (for free) but it's good to know thanks.

yeah we were fine, but they had our camera, i did not understand any of the shouting, but my understanding was they were just normal Italians trying it on, the police soon told them to get lost, with lots of hand waving lol

Definitely agree Verona is a great location for a weekend away. Much more chilled out than some of the busier Italian cities but still got the history and culture. A great find OP.
