same price at morrisons , however I used to pay about 0.40eur per kg for these back in Latvia's fish market , makes you wonder why the f they cost 4pounds per kg here at regular price.

Is the fish OK from Tesco?
I remember watching an episode of food unwrapped and Jimmy saying the fish in a supermarket fish counter ...well he didn't rate it highly.
Mind he did conclude that frozen fish was best....I have had the frozen fish from Iceland and it was not good....so who knows.

I had frozen sardines in Porto Santo, Madeira and they tasted super fresh. I could eat the guts too and still tasted fresh not bitter at all!

In Portugal, where they know a thing or two about sardines, they wouldn't touch fresh sardines outside June-August when they're plump and juicy - at other times they can have a bad texture and a "metallic" taste. Frozen sardines should display the date of catch - and again the same thing applies, except that frozen will never touch fresh for taste and texture.
I'd suspect the sardines in Tesco are defrosted "previously frozen" and you'll be lucky to see the catch date.....

These are previously frozen. Only £1.50 per kg last month too
Bought half a kilo last month not realising I would have 20 fish to gut, clean, cook and eat
