Note: that these flights do not include checked in luggage but this can easily be added on at a cost of £75 per 20kg so it is always worth packing wisely.

departure tax from cancun is approx 900 mexican pesos according to thomson, which equates to roughly £35.

Worth noting that there's a comment on the HP article stating that there's a £40 'departure tax' at Cancun airport. Can't say I know whether this is true or not but there's no reason to doubt the guy/gal.

Was £40 per seat when I came back in April. lthough I heard last week it's dropped to £20ish.
Just take enough UK money if you're unsure and don't lose your slip on arrival.

We just put the correct amount in GBP in our passports at the start of our holiday so we don't have to think about it until the date of departure and in case we run out of money!
Departure tax applies to other airlines also and various destinations for Thomson including Jamaica, Kenya, Aruba, Dominican Republic and Tunisia as well.

Thomson is the only company I know of that charges for Mexico. Almost all others put it in the ticket price, Thomas Cook included.

I flew with Thomas Cook to Mexico and they charge too although it is pre-payable.
BA and Virgin include it in the cost of their ticket so either way you end up paying it.
Must've been a while back as they don't charge it anymore.
Whether or not it's it's included in the flight price is not the point. You have to factor it in when making a comparison between flights/holidays.
I did recently when up Mexico again with Thomson and TC, I knew Thomson would cost an extra £120 ish for my family however the trade off would be a more comfortable flight.

We flew to Mexico with Thomas Cook only last year.
Holidaysupermarket article is dated January 2015 so not old news.
You'd be hard-pushed to find return BA or Virgin flights to Mexico even with the added airport tax.
I really don't see why you have a chip on your sholder about it. Someone asked about the departure tax, so I commented on how much it was, as six months ago I did the same trip. Not once I've said it's not a good deal, I even gave it heat.

No chip mate. Just stating my experience.
Thanks for the link, it's good to know! Thomas Cook do some random cheap flights sometimes.

So what looks like a cheap flight isn't really, well over £300 with luggage and exit tax. Many countries have visa costs or exit taxes, just nice to know the real cost for comparison before booking.... Annoying how they don't include luggage, ... Silly
