I'm thinking the same thing. This could be the way to go. Go basic on Sky and then get one of these little boxes.
Now try cancelling Sky?!!! Did you get one of these boxes yet?

May just be my bad luck, but I have placed orders for 2 items from shopto.net, 18 months apart and received neither of them. One was a few weeks ago when they ran this particular deal before. I did receive refunds on both so not a big issue, but thought I should mention it, just in case anyone else has had similar issues

I've got Now TV (excellent), Amazon Fire Stick (excellent, and supports Netflix), Chromecast (a tad redundant now), and a few android sticks, but I'd definitely recommend the value of the Fire stick and Now TV in comparison.

Wow their site is cr*p. Tried to order 2 but will not allow me to input my credit card. Tries to connect with Sagepay but sits there for well over 15 minutes and then fails. OK so will try Paypal then. Enter details, go onto Paypal page and accept details but when it goes back to the Shopto site the delivery address has my postcode but my neighbours farm with no way to change it. Spent over an hour and still not managed to order. Tried 2 different browsers. **** off now and going to bed!

You can have 4 devices on one account. This will tend to be a now tv box + a combination of phone/tablet/PC but you are only allowed to add on devices 1,2,3 at one per month ie after 3 months you can have 4 devices on one now tv account.

i have this orignal now tv box, and it is probably just as bad, maybe worse
The new version is £14.99 or £24.99 with a three month pass from nowTV themselves. Might be a better option
The new box is much better - so I would not bother with the old one. But it is a decent price for the code.

I was lucky enough to pick up the latest black now tv box with 3 months entertainment for £15 at Tesco. The shelf had them mixed up with the older white boxes and someone forgot to change the shelf ticket. Scanned at £25 but they had to honour it for £15. New box is much faster, plus you have a usb port, network port and micro sd slot. Dont think you can use micro sd for media playback.

Does anyone know where else you can trade in boxes apart from cex?

17 Oct 15#29
What's the difference between the white and black new boxes
If you watch live tv on iplayer then yes, you do.
If you only watch the streaming sky channels or terrestrial shows on catch up, no you don't.

The pass are valid for year from purchase so I'm assume if I buy 4 box at £9.99 I can use one pass code every 3 months saving £38 on cost of years entertainment pass and have 4 free now TV boxes

What an utter con, can't see why anyone uses cex for trade in, you can see teir huge profit margin a mile off. To be fair though the value of the white now tv box has fallen and will continue to with the new boxes out but they can still be sold on eBay for three times the trade in/six times the cash cex offer with very little effort....
As for this deal, red hot! Just a shame the movies boxes aren't the same price though they are still a good buy at £12.85....

Now TV is significantly cheaper than a Sky sub on Entertainment and Movies. The only exception is the Sports, which would work out significantly dearer but then few people need the sports channels all the time, so with the odd sports pass as needed would still probably be cheaper.
Also, with now tv getting the passes under rrp is very common, these deals seem to crop up every other month so, if you buy smart and keep a eye on HUKD for now tv deals, then you need never pay anything like what they are supposed to cost. You can't easily do that with a subscription as you only really have any leverage when you are out of contract and even then the discounts are rarely all that amazing....

17 Oct 15#58
Is it correct that you will only have an extra 13 channels with the entertainment 3 month pass?
Another question when the pass expires can you still receive the catch up TV?
GrabbaBargain to jazzyman
19 Oct 15#67
Entertainment pass gives access to those channels (watch live, or catch-up) and also all entertainment box sets that they rotate frequently. If pass expires you can still access other apps (BBC/ITV players etc). I think you need to have an active account (not sure if that means active pass) to access Sky Sports News HQ app.

Unless you're massively into sport or desperate to watch everything in HD, I can't see why anyone would pay for full blown Sky any more.
Just ordered this purely for the 3 months entertainment pass - I'll keep the HDMI cable and batteries and send the box to CEX for £1.90 worth of store credit (all adds up). Assuming the cable's worth a quid and the batteries about 25p, thats £2.15 a month for the entertainment channels and I'm already getting the movies for £4.99 on the retention deal. Result!

Not sure why you would get any problem as you would merely out your notice in with sky as now TV is a stand alone service not linked to your old sky account
