Lophole from previous thread - credit Luvclub

"You could exchange as many times as you want as long as the sales assistant don't recognise you. Last November I exchanged £40 Entertainment vouchers 5 or 6 times and used them to purchase console games/bluray. However it is not possible to use more than one voucher in one transaction.

There was also a loophole in the T&C which allowed you to get around the promotion expiry and unused vouchers expiring. If you have unused vouchers and don't have anything to purchase just yet then use it to purchase something which is the same value as the voucher. Best to do this on the final day of the promotion. You would then have an additional 28 days to exchange the unused item for something that you would really want even if it is after the end of the promotion. If you really have no use for it then just ask for a refund and they would refund the original points that were used to exchange for the voucher. "

Edit: Also see comment 40 on this thread by Luvclub over a new sensible addition to the terms and conditions - thanks again

that's interesting because I purchased something a while ago using nectar points and it was faulty. Took it back for a rend of points but they said that they couldn't do that and refunded cash instead even when I said I wanted the points put back on my card

It's not exactly a loophole, I exchanged my points for 3 £40 vouchers in one go with the same person. You just can't get more than £40 per voucher, but you can get more than 1 £40 voucher for the same department.

Not hot from me ever as Tesco clubcard points are not only worth twice as much to start off with but then you can double up as many as you want on a single purchase whereas this deal give you for example up to £20 of fa £400 Tv- hardly something to write home about.

I don't get why the cold votes and negative comments. At the end of the day your loyalty points are worth double! I have about £20 saved up since last double up as I live in a small town with only a Sainsburys to shop in. I prefer tesco but shop at Sainsburys as its in my town. I see loyalty points as free money anyway and save them up for every double event. Will be using mine to purchase Christmas gifts, thanks for the heads up! Heat from me, because it's still double the worth and better than nothing!
luvclub to vicstar115
14 Oct 15 2 #41
Those cold voters are just being silly. If someone already has nectar points then this is one of the rare occasions where their value could be doubled. It doesnt really matter whether if Tesco Clubcard points are more rewarding or not. It just means we could double what we have already, albeit with some spend conditions.
jimmybo

This might coincide with another "20% off 6 bottles of wine" Sainsbury's promo!

IF you want to go down the Amex gold route you can get an extra 2000 points (22,000 total not 20,000) if some one like me with a gold card already refers you.

Tesco you get points worth 1% of all spend not 0.5% with Nectar. Then you can double up as many tesco vouchers as you want on deals. I have about 700 quids worth of nectar point so would love to buy some big ticket item but the mean spirited £20 limit prevents that.

I chose to shop at Sainsbury as their fresh produce is in a different league to Tesco and not because of their reward programme. The Nectar points are a happy by-product and I welcome any posts that allows me to stretch these rewards.

2 points. First is for anyone in the market for some Disney DVDs. They are currently on BOGOF and with any luck, will still be running when this promo comes into force. Last year, I redeemed £20 of Nectar points which I then used to purchase £40 of Disney DVDs at BOGOF. So for £20, I bought 3 DVD and got another 3 free. With the Disney Movie Reward points from these, I got a further 7th DVD - not bad for £20.

Second point, Tu clothing are included in this offer which normally means that any promo vouchers or ocassionally the 25% off event runs in the week prior to the Double Points. Unfortunately they never coincide but it is great news for anyone waiting for 25% off.

Great to see my "loophole" is being used

Also, there has been a lovely and sensible addition to the T&C:

"Where goods from your selected category cost less than the value of your Nectar Double Up voucher the following terms apply:
1) Where the difference is 50p or more, then additional goods from your selected category must be purchased so that the full value of the Nectar Double Up voucher is spent in one transaction;
2) Where the difference is between and inclusive of 6p and 50p, the balance may be applied against any other goods in your shopping basket. The full value of the voucher must be spent and no change will be given;
3) Where the difference is between and inclusive of 1p and 5p, the balance will be given as change. This change will be applied against any other goods in your basket or, where no other goods are purchased, given in cash."

This is great for example for purchasing those £9.99 or £39.99 items so you could make use of the exact voucher amount instead of having to overspend.

Usually wait on these to grab my games, this will do nicely for Battlefront.

I barely even "shop" to collect points, just use the mobile apps for both nectar and tesco plenty to boost points when in stores and get stuff sent which I keep in my wallet, ends up getting me about £50-60 a year, so double it up and it's pretty much 3 free games for me. Should really start doing the actual shop and getting other stuff through points when/if beneficial....I know of some who homeown and do all this, and still end up with £500+ come Christmas, insanity.

Not bothered about limits, as it's all a bonus anyway, if you shop for the points outright, pretty much your fault, always shop for the best value.

And on the limit point....Nectar points don't seem to have an expiry(maybe they do, but not for some time), while theres no limit to spending Clubcard points, they expire.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what does this mean then?

Hello Russell
You have:
15,634 PTS
You can spend:
£78.17

So can I get them all doubled up and make £150 worth of vouchers ?
So confused
sofiasar to uktottys
14 Oct 15 1 #78
Yes, min £5 spend but you must state which voucher, say you wanted a iron then you would need to ask for electronics voucher and you can't keep any change or use the remainder change on other departments.

Each department = a different voucher!!
Last year all employees were really angry with nectar for such a bad service and confusion they caused
mhuck
14 Oct 15 #79
"Only one Nectar Double Up voucher will be issued per category per Nectar card during the promotional period."

So if you have £40 worth of nectar points you could get £20 worth (£40 double up value) for electronics so for example towards a laptop and another £20 worth (£40 double up value) for entertainment such as a console game, but you could not get two vouchers for electronics to recieve £40 (top up value) off two different laptops.

Seems a bit mean to me but I assume it must record which vouchers you have already taken so you can't get more than 1 for each category.

Have Nectar removed the bonus offers section on their website?
bemad to s4m77
14 Oct 15 1 #81
The new Nectar site is f-in awful......

The bonus offers are there but - BE WARNED - they simply do not work. I have loaded at least a dozen (you now have to "load" them to your card) and then done exactly what they want and no bonus points have ever come through!!!

Life is too short to contact Nectar chasing up every missing 100/200 points and they now only show the last month of transactions so you can't monitor it anyway.

Very clever of Nectar to make it all so unusable and unrewarding but I am voting with my feet and after I have used up my points with doubling up will be abandoning Nectar for good and will concentrate all of my buying power and points collecting with Tesco. Far more rewarding and far less frustrating.

So quite simply it is "Goodbye to Nectar" after spending up with this one.

I wonder if you could do the 'sneaky get multiple vouchers in the same category trick to get say 7x40 quids worth of games and entertainment vouchers and purchase 7x £40 games.

Then use the return and exchange trick to return all 7 games at once and exchange for a PS4 console....
luvclub to m1chaels
14 Oct 15 1 #95
That would probably attract extra scrutiny and I'm sure they would notice they're all paid using a £40 voucher and ask for the assistance of a senior staff member who would not allow it. Strictly the exchange is for like with like so you can't exchange 7 items for 1.

That is just the person serving you not understanding the T&C.

There are always such people working at supermarkets.

For example, I've developed a knack in choosing which Asda checkout operator to go with when paying with larger Asda Price Guarantee vouchers. I've got it down to a 50% success rate in finding the ones who do not understand their store policy. These operators would pointlessly cross out the voucher and put it in their till while they would return the unmarked Asda till receipt to you, when they should have instead marked "APG" on the till receipt to signify the voucher had already been claimed for that receipt.

Of course the receipt returns to my wallet together with my other receipts and then I would not remember which ones I've already claimed and would accidentally print another voucher out and claim again and again.....

21 Oct 15 #118
D'oh just read this

Where an item is returned as unwanted it may be exchanged on a like for like basis or refunded within 28 days. The refund will be calculated as follows:
The value of the Nectar Double Up coupon will be refunded at the pre-Nectar Double Up value onto a Sainsbury's gift card (e.g. 1000 Nectar points exchanged during the promotion for a £10 Nectar Double up coupon will be refunded as £5 onto a gift card). Any cash balance will be refunded using the same method of payment used in the original transaction.

So i can used the points to double up and get a dvd but if i take it back i would only get refunded the "none doubled" value of the points ie £5 and the have to put £5 towards the value

Think i've worded that as clear as mud but i know what i mean:D
luvclub to ashbarron
21 Oct 15 1 #119
I couldnt find terms relating to refund and exchanges for this promotion, but if it is as you say then you should still be able to exchange rather than refund.

The "loophole" that Chanchi32 quoted was something that I had used up to the Nov 2014 double-up promotion.

There was a change in the T&C during the March 2015 promotion though and I found this following post which I had posted about that:

Remember, the quote directly above is from the previous promotion. However I have been unable to find the equivalent T&C this time.

If it comes down to it and they argue over a non-existent T&C this time or that it is the same as the previous promotion then you should still be able to exchange (e.g DVD for another DVD) rather than refund. If you want to refund then you would have to wait for the dimmest looking customer services person. If they refuse then just walk away and come back again another time when someone else is working the desk and try again.

Yes, that is how it is done. If you want to be extra cautious, do it on separate days and/or get one of those keyfob cards for him as the keyfobs don't show the name. You could just pretend you're strangers and exchange right after each other!

In my store (a bigger store) they even let you exchange vouchers at both the entertainment desk and the customer services desk, so you could even do it separately.

However, you cannot use both vouchers together in the same transaction to purchase goods.

You need to use them by 24/11/2015 (ie the last day of the promotion).

4,000 points ("normally" worth £20) into a £40 voucher. There are no £80 vouchers.

Nectar are very strange. Earlier this year my points balance reset all of a sudden - I had close to 3000 points and they vanished overnight. Apparently, their explanation was the card hadn't been used instore in 12 months so the balance had lapsed. Despite the fact I had ordered online from them just 2 months ago, my card had lapsed as I hadn't used it in store in over a year. Luckily, they reset the points balance back onto a new card and I was only out of pocket by 2 points or so but its annoying so will be looking to see if I can use the balance I have remaining on double up vouchers this time around if possible.

So does this mean that I can potentially turn all of my Nectar points into cash...

See if you have the "50% points back if you exchange more than £10 at Homebase" offer in your Nectar account. Some are worded differently so be careful.

That is equivalent to doubling up and you should be able to purchase gift cards though of course you need to ask first as sometimes it depends on how they interpret the rules.

You would only get the 50% points back after the offer expires though so won't be able to repeat it to use up your whole points balance .

Install the nectar app on your smart phone.

There are several deals with no minimum spend that gets you bonus points.

For example swipe your nectar card in homebase (after you've loaded the deal to your card, via the app) spend any amount of money and on top of the normal points awarded you'll get 200 bonus.

They had a similar deal at BP which expired yesterday, I took advantage of and points are now in my account

Why can't these companies just keep it simple ....

Double up your points - sounds easy. Found a sweatshirt for £18, went to convert points and told I needed to convert £10 into £20 but could not use it for £18 sweatshirt, had to spend more than £20 to use voucher - couldn't add batteries or anything to make up the difference as the voucher was for clothes. Then wouldn't accept card numbers so just gave up.
If they want to double the points just double them - don't have all these T&C's (tricks and cons)

What a farce

I hear you. I got a £40 voucher to buy Fallout 4 then noticed the game costs £39.99 and the t&c's stated minimum £40 spend on entertainment so I had to buy a cheap cd to take it over the £40. Not a major big deal just all a bit of a pullaver compared to using clubcard points.

Cheers, yeah just got someone to check my local and they have the £35 cards atleast
sam73yahoo
20 Nov 15 #210
jcvanshazam and james I do not have enough nectar points for 35£

They also have 'wallet top up' cards normally for £25 or £10/£20 also come under this ???
lsam to sam73yahoo
20 Nov 15 #215
I have only ever brought the ones in the bluray type cases which have £35 credit. Not sure about the other cases/amounts or indeed the creditcard size type topups, any help?
Edgeman13
20 Nov 15 #211
According to the T&Cs you need to spend at least £39.50 to use the voucher, not over £40, unless you're in the Crawley, Tonbridge, Tottenham and Ilford stores, in which case you have to spend £39.95. You shouldn't have had a problem if Fallout was £39.99. https://livewellforless.sainsburys.co.uk/nectar-rewards-christmas-double-up-terms-conditions/

In all cases your item(s) need in total to be within 50p of the double up voucher's worth. So dc100 would have needed to spend £19.50. It does seem very pernickety.

octopus
20 Nov 15 #217
That's what the T&C's state but try explaining that on the checkout counter when there are 10 people in the queue behind you.

The voucher also states minimum spend as exact value e.g. I got £10 voucher for homeware and it states minimum spend as £10
Edgeman13
20 Nov 15 #218
I don't doubt your experience, but I just used a £40 voucher to get a year's PS Plus subscription, which was £39.99. It was part of a larger shop, so maybe that overset the minimum spend.

20 Nov 15 1 #219
If you want to buy a £39.99 item with a £40 voucher the person on the till has to select 'voucher top up' from a rather hidden item on their till menu. They select between 1p-5p as required and then scan your voucher. Unfortunately it seems only some staff know this.

I got 4 copies of Fallout 4 at different stores. Only 1 store knew how to do it, I inadvertently trained the other 3 stores! All copies now traded in to cex. £80 worth of points turned into £128 cash in my account, thanks Nectar!

Got nearly a thousand extra points today with stuff I'd buy anyway, cleaning products, baby items etc with a tonne of print-off vouchers I got when I filled the car up at sainsburys. Meant I boosted my points total and got a £30 video games voucher which I put towards the new Star Wars ps4 game. Although not the best rewards scheme in the world this double up event is certainly worth it and they seem to be handing extra points vouchers out like sweets every time I go to the till

Thanks for the heads-up. I got 2 x £40 wine vouchers on consecutive days. Hic!

This is so complicated...just stood for 45 minutes in a queue while they tried to work which dept each item was from to then exchange fir the right tyoe of vouchers...come on sainsbury ss make this easier please!!!!

I've got nearly £200 (£400) in points imagine the amount of pising around I would have to do to double them up? No thanks I can't be bothered. I will wait until the 50% points refund for converting points to eBay vouchers cones back on. Saintsbury's are idiots.

Great!! 3 years after accumulating enough points after spending about £500 at Sainsbury's I can now turn my £2.50 into a fiver!

When I was in Sainsburys the other day hardly any of the staff knew how it worked. I guess it depends what you are buying, if it is straightforward there are no problems, last year I got 5 bottles of wine at £8 so that was £40 and £20 with my voucher, I did the exchange no problems. This year I was buying cards and gift bags from the seasonal department and this is where it got very confusing. The staff in the store had arranged the signs for the offer in front of all the seasonal products so this caused problems when I first tried to buy stuff off the section which didn't qualify, fair enough it listed on the voucher what goods I could buy but I'd put that in my purse for safe keeping. After my attempt at the till with the wrong stuff I went back and chose from the stuff listed and my second attempt came to £20.16 in seasonal goods plus £1 for a bag of apples, the till rejected it again, goodness knows why because I'd done everything right but I had to trot off again and get another pack of cards and then on my third attempt it took it. It was embarrassing at the till being turned away twice and certainly not worth the hassle as I'd seen gift bags in my local post office for a similar price with the discount. I really think they need to sort out the criteria for all this stuff maybe even do like Boots do on their 3 for 2 with the little stickers on the goods in the offer and just do one set of vouchers for all departments not different ones, plus the floor staff need training up on what is included, if they don't what chance does the customer have? Next year I'm saving all my points for a big Christmas shop in December.

Don't bother. The T&C will be just as restrictive next time.

FYI - I picked up a magnum of prosecco for £19, got a double up voucher worth £20 (thinking if just write off the £1) and they REFUSED to use the voucher because it states it has to be a MINIMUM spend of the voucher amount!!!! Really annoying!!

Tried to get vouchers and my card came up with a balance of 0. Was told that I'd need to collect at least one point in that store and wait 24 hours before I could redeem points there. Is this true? I did buy something and will return back tomorrow to try again.

Good deal. I don't really use nectar but surprised I had £35 worth of points, exchanged £20 for £40 Xbox live 2 x £15 1 x £10. Perfect for Xmas

21 Nov 15 #236
I've got a coupon which gives me 800 bonus points if I buy £20 or more of bedding.

Can I use this in conjunction with a double-up voucher? Can't see it anywhere on their T + C's.

Bought some bedding using a coupon today - the only issue is you can't use it on the self-checkouts, so had to queue up.

I didn't read the T&Cs properly so filled up my trolley with TTD booze and took it to customer services to check how much of my £170 worth of points I could exchange for double up. Devastated when I was told I could only use £20 ie for a £40 spend.
Will try tomorrow to see if it works again but if not I'm going to start to get a new Nectar card every time it maxes out at £20. All that I find it of value for is the Cafe Nero deal and that's not saving much now.
At least next year I'll be able to use my Nectar Cards to their full effect.
As far as I am concerned, Sainsburys have shot themselves in the foot with this deal - say what you want about Tesco but at least they make the collection of Clubcar points worthwhile with their scheme.

22 Nov 15 #238
Was a bit of a faff getting my Nectar balance as I hadn't shopped in that store before and then the till wasn't printing vouchers!

Eventually they just gave me two gift cards with "refund" written on the front. I asked if I had to spend these before the double up promotion finished and they said yes but is this true? It just says on the back 24 months and I'm guessing I could spend these on anything. Do the double up vouchers have an expiry date printed on them? I think I've gotten away with one here and want to wait until Black Friday to use them now or get my weekly shop. I can't even remember which one was for electricals and which was for entertainment now I just have two - each with £40 on...

Well I have had great success doubling up yesterday and today. The staff were knowledgable and helpful. The lady today even noticed I had a duvet in my trolley and asked if I wanted a double up on that too. Hadn't even thought about doing that. Just wanted to add this to show a positive experience. I got £70 worth of bits for £13 so I am happy
jono8
25 Nov 15 #240
So yesterday I asked for a £30 voucher for wine and the guy for some reason thought I wanted £60. he printed the first £40 gave it to me and then went on to do another £20 and I was like woah woah woah what are you doing. Idiot. Then he had to get a supervisor to refund the original £40 voucher and print me a new £30 one.

She said the 4000 points will go back on my nectar card within 24 hours but so far nothing......I have a receipt showing the nectar refund of £20 but I suspect this isn't going to work and is going to be a right pain the ass to resolve...

So I bought a clothing item for £40 of doubled up points 2 weeks ago and today exchanged it for slightly more than £40 of clothes with 25% off with no problems.
