Vauxhall --> Opel.
German company. You Brits didn't want to have Opel on the British market because that company was making bombs during WWII which were dropped on London.
So you have Opel but under badge of Vauxhall. It's not an American company.
It belongs go GM but it's old German company.

Not quite.

Vauxhall is a trading name of General Motors UK Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors in the United States.

General Motors, unlike most other car manufacturers, prefers to sell their cars under historical names associated with that country.

So yes, if you go to Germany, you will find essentially the same car on sale badged as Opel. Whilst Opel was the name of an old German company, like Vauxhall was the name of an old English company, Adam Opel AG is today also a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors in the United States.

LOL - they are called Starburst today.

Actually Opel started off producing sewing machines, and then later went onto produce pedal cycles.

This is to do with the halves and thirds of a credit agreement.
If you've paid a third of the to line cost, inc deposit, trade in and payments so far they can't repossss without a court agreement.
When you've paid half, including the payments above, then you can hand the car back without 'penalty' when you discover the car is a pile of poop. The mileage allowance is so that you don't do 40k a year, then pay up half and hand it back in 2 years. It's to try and preserve some of the value in that kind of situation.

New Astra is out now so this will be replaced shortly.

Also will make you look like a chav.

Ride awful on 20" wheels

Tyres expensive.

Bad economy.

Your basically driving around in an impractical last generation Astra.
dezontk to dsuk
18 Oct 15 #82
Will make you look like a chav from who's point of view? Anyone in a better car wouldn't lend a bother to laying down a judgement. Anyone with a worse car is surely in no place to judge. And anyone on foot can't get finance on a fiddle.
indyjukebox to dsuk
18 Oct 15 1 #93
Yes, the new model is out soon. So what? Unless you are one of those that needs a new everything every year. But then you only have your own vanity to blame.

Chav? Really? From the same chap who posted a deal on a Dacia Duster, a Dacia Sandero, silver plated jewellery from Argos and a Kia Magentis? Wow those must make you look like Da Numb Nutzz!

Ride quality. Have you even driven one? I own the 5 door LE and it rides exceptionally well for something on 19 inch alloys. Online reviews from magazines and owners agree with an exceptionally good ride quality. NVH is better than the Ford focus and on par with the VW Golf.

Tyres. Yes they are not cheap. But you can get ditchfinders from £49 to Yokohama/Falken/Vredestein for £115. Pirelli are £126, Goodyears are £130 per corner. Not at all bad if you ask me. If you cannot afford tyres, then move on. Why comment on something just because you cannot afford it. Your lack of affordability does not make it a bad choice.

Bad economy? Again really? I am getting 40mpg on mixed driving. Which is fine for me. How much mpg would you like? But then if it had better economy, you would be here saying it was too slow. Cant have both can you? Choose one.

Impractical? Another thoughtless comment. I found it more spacious than the Ford or VW equivalents. Bigger boot, more rear passenger space and loads of storage spaces/cubby holes. It had bluetooth that works, powerful aircon, controls are nice and soft touch. No rattles so far. And Vx are cheaper than Ford or VW when it comes to servicing or parts.

Every weekend I drive from Surrey to Leeds (275 miles). Show me one electric car that can do that distance on one charge at this sort of price? Then on Monday, I leave at 5am and get to work around 10am. Could you find me an electric car that can cover this distance, within that time frame and cost the same as the GTC???

I live in a nice set of apartments. We don't have a charging point in the apartment complex. Where do you propose I charge my electric car from? Should I dangle the extension cord from the third floor, out of my window to my electric car (that by the way is not suitable for my weekend commute)?? We have looked at electric cars for a local run about, but installing the electric charging point has various obstacles to overcome at this point in time.

This car would suit my needs very well. It is nippy, economical and costs very little. So why is this a shambles??? Could you show me a deal that is better? And that is a real request so that I can understand what I am missing.

Everyone has different needs but I would expect you would be best with a PHEV like the Mitsibushi Outlander based on what you said. That way you can cover your day to driving using electric mode, and for the longer trips you can drive just as you would with a standard petrol car.

However Electric Cars range is a bit of a non factor these days, as there are fast 30 min public chargers all over the country. Maybe you should look into this option a bit more, the info is out there, easily accessible and you can get free extended test drives of various Electric models.
indyjukebox
18 Oct 15 1 #100
So my alternative to this deal is a 30k minimum (after govt. grant) hybrid, that still emits CO2. For which I do not have a plug in charger at home. How does that equate to a better deal? Then consider that the so called 30min charging tends to wreck the batteries and reduce their useable life. Which then means I have to splurge for a new battery in 5 years time, which then costs money, time and more CO2 to produce the new battery pack.

With regards to rapid chargers, they are not as easy as you think. We drove a Tesla to Sheffield a few months ago and we couldnt charge at the first 2 points as the rapid charger did not have the plug type we required. The third one was compatible but was not working. It is not as easy as you think. There are 6 types of charging plugs and not all of them are available at all charging stations. Plus when you are spending 10-12 hours/weekend on the road commuting, the last thing you want is to spend another 60 mins recharging.

I have tried the EV option. It is not viable for us. Hence why we need a petrol car. And this is a good deal for a nippy, fuel efficient and reasonably appointed car.

I am sorry but you recommending a 30k SUV as an alternative to a 13k 3 door coupe is shambles, not the above deal.

Maybe so, but Rhyll is also full of scouse residents and that's in North Wales. Should that be classed as Liverpool too? And parts of the Mersey run through Manchester. Would love to see the expression on a manc if you called them a scouser.

That cannot be true - I often see new Astra's with alloy wheels.

WHAT NEW BMW OR AUDI CAN YOU BUY FOR HIS MONEY. I'M KEEN TO KNOW

No worries. I eventually reported your deal to get the details corrected (and I suspect others did too). It was a mod that then corrected it.

For future reference, as I mentioned to you back in post#29, if you post a deal that needs correcting, and you can't do it yourself, then simply report your deal, select 'Other', and explain the issue/ what you want changed. I think it's often better when these sort of things come direct from the individual that made the error, rather than anyone else.

Presumbaly the Spam/Report button works on the app?

I believe they are also assembled in Antwerp (Belgium), Bochum (Germany) & Gliwice (Poland) ... and other plants around the world although I'm not sure the others produce UK spec vehicles.

But wherever it is assembled, GM is American.

Thanks for your help mate. No, the report button doesn't work on the App. Once you've entered details, it's then too late. Thanks again.

COLD: As has been mentioned already - poor specs for the price. No A/C or Cruise Control. You can buy a 5 door KIA Cee'd with real good specs with a 7 year warranty!
EveshamLad to eyeballpaul152
19 Oct 15 #120
I think you are mistaken.
The OP specifically states that the car in this deal has Cruise Control.

If you think you know of a dood deal for another product, why not take the time & trouble as the OP hads done to list that as a deal for all to see ?

19 Oct 15 #118
Yes, of course.
mrke
19 Oct 15 1 #119
This model does have both Air Conditioning and Cruise Control.

The model range starts with 'Sport' as the base model, which has both of the above.

Next model up is the 'Limited Edition' (as per this deal) which adds bluetooth and sod off great 20" wheels etc.

See pages 30 and 32 of the brochure: https://www.vauxhall.co.uk/bypass/download/gb/gtcbrochure.pdf

Even so: only 47.1 MPG for a 1.4l standard car, £145 tax. I was simply pointing out you can get better deals for your money which aren't necessarily "Hot Deals"

Ah please don't get upset and thanks for taking your valuable time to look through my history the back up you pointless post. You posts seem to be just as bad and no doubt a vauxhall driver hence the offence you have taken. Thanks for join my ignore list your welcome.

Careful I think I've offended him too.He must work for vauxhall.I can see him now in his superdry hoodie driving his vxr scrapper thinking it's got sporting heritage lol. He'll be looking at previous posts and bringing them to everyone's attention to make himself fell just that little bit better for owning a vauxhall
