This is a heads-up for Office 2016 available under home use program (very similar to the Office 2013 deal posted a few days ago). If your employer is participating in this, you should be able to purchase Microsoft Office 2016 for £9.95. The purchased software can be installed on 1 home computer (Mac/PC).
You can go to the deal URL and provide your work email to check whether you are eligible. Even if you do not know your "Program Code," you can still proceed.
4. When will Volume Licensing customers be able to get Office 2016?
Volume Licensing customers will be able to download Office 2016 from the Volume Licensing Service Center beginning today, and Home Use Program (HUP) customers can install Office 2016 beginning on October 7, 2015. MSDN Subscriptions customers can download Office 2016 now.
Office for Mac 2016 v15.15 is now available through AutoUpdate

But you do get decent pensions, free bus travel, winter fuel allowance etc which is far more than the next generation will get when they get there. You've also grown up in times where house prices were much much lower relative to salary giving you more disposable income than young people get these days. I obviously don't know anything about your personal circumstances but in general the retired generation today do pretty well for themselves, probably far better than any subsequent generations.

False complaint though. This wasn't available when you were working it's as simple as that. What will I bemoan when I'm retired because something wasn't available in the prime of my life? Answer = nothing, because I accept that lived when I lived. I wouldn't worry about it, just live and be grateful of your time. There will likely be things towards the end of my life and beyond my lifespan that I will never experience, because I was simply born at the wrong time. Except no one is born at the wrong time, take every day and live it. The present moment is all we ever have, and almost none of us live it. There will be unimaginable technology in the future, when I see sci-fi films even like Tomorrowland, I start to think of the future, and what I'll 'miss' from not being alive. The problem with dwelling on the future or the past, is that you don't live in the present and therefore you don't really live as full a life as you can. Basic mindfulness. People could wish they lived in your time where they could afford to buy a house, most can't now. You get my drift anyway
Summary: You have nothing to complain about.

Does anyone know whether the NHS are on the HUP? I remember them taking themselves out of it, but trying to find out from our HR is like banging your head against a brick wall!
It depends on your employer. We lost the HUP entitlement when I worked at the local Hospital, but when I moved to another local NHS employer, they still operate the scheme. Lucky for me I guess.

I bought office 2010 and then office 2013 on the deal using the same email address so I would assume you would be ok. I will be trying 2016 on Weds....and it's great when you have 2 external employer email addresses to use.

I too bought 2013, looking at the FAQ's I am assuming as long as I am willing to pay the extra £9.95 I can also get 2016. Not sure though if I can also use 2013 I would assume yes as it's still a valid key?
The policy is one license per employee per their selected product version (Office or Mac but not both). If you previously purchased Office 2007 or Office 2010 from the HUP program and you still meet the HUP program eligibility requirements you may purchase Office 2013. If you previously purchased Office for Mac 2011 you must wait until a new Mac version is released before you are eligible to purchase again.

Yes it is. It's an employee incentive so that people are using the same software at home that they use at work, and essentially it's being subsidised by the thousands that the employers are paying for volume licensing in the first place.
Thanks OP, been waiting for this so good to know an exact date. Still on Office 2007 which I bought while I was a student (and didn't moan about having to pay for, either...) so it'll be nice to upgrade to the latest version.

It's less than £10, how much cheaper do you want it to be?! The average user is unlikely to come across any significant bugs, it's not worth worrying about.

I'm surprised by this. I've never known a HUP to require any sort of payment. I work for Microsoft and whilst I'm not claiming to be particularly knowledgeable about this offer, usually the company's Software Assurance benefits admin just enables HUP and then anyone with an @thatcompany.com email address can download and use it whilst they're employed by that company. Every month the software phones home to check you're still valid.
If MS has decided that you need to pay a tenner to get it, that would be a new thing...

I can't do anything about the first point or 1, and as for point 2, I wouldn't say I actually enjoyed the property booms as I am working class and my my mortgage rate went up and down like nobody's business during the 80's / 90's.
I can't say that I do enjoy much better pensions as it all depends on your earnings at that time. I do admit tho' that I paid more into my company pension scheme, than the minimum or whatever the rate was at the time.
The benefits I have now is no mortgage and no car to pay for, I paid cash.

Those people who will 'suffer' from the changes are those who benefited from the 'loads a money' actions since the '80's. I remember being told my low paid public service job was rubbish then.
Those who took the higher salaries but didn't save their gains in pensions or money are now blaming.us who stayed in work for 40 years.

I've tried out WPS Office, formerly Kingsoft, also use it on Android tablet.
It gives word processor, spreadsheets and presentation, only around 60MB download.
It can be tricky finding the right download, the drawback is the free download seems to alternate between free version and 30 day trial of full version, which then nags. You do end up with the same thing at the end.

Good deal for those who can get it.
However, as many thousands of NHS employees discovered a while back... If your organisation terminates its agreement with Microsoft then you lose your right to your home use license and you will be told to remove office.
Not sure how enforceable that is though.
Also, cheap though this is (for those who can get it), as usual we have the usual 1/3-1/2 mark-up from from Software companies versus the price in the USA where it's under $10.

 Ever had one of the pompous pillocks lecture you ? I have several times. In a bar, in a cafe, on the street. When you start asking for where they get their "proof" from, and why does this or that happen then, and various glaringly obvious facts and they either back off snarling some of the usual bull that ends -ist or -phobic (often nothing to do with the subject they attempted to talk DOWN to me about - ie lecture) or start ranting with bulging eyes and drooling spittle. (They're are the considerably dumber types - usually too long since their last fix) I enjoy goading those ones.

Where do you people dig this garbage up from? Even that article doesn't state Office 2016 is 'spying' on you... it says that the preview version sent telemetry back (which is stated very clearly in the T+C's... it's BETA software...) and hints that the full version MIGHT, and therefore you should use this software, that certainly, no siree, definitely, absolutely doesn't install any other crap you might not want. No. Nope. For sure.
All the Windows and MS spying stuff is balls. All the 'spying' stuff can be turned off, the only other stuff that is sent back is anonymous performance related stuff. If you don't want that, buy the pro version, and set yourself up behind a properly configured firewall.
OR, just, OR, stop fretting and relax. Unless you really ARE a state sponsored terrorist, then worry. I mean, really worry.
I bet most of the people slating MS for this are using Android too...

The problem is that people don't turn off what's been put in as default e.g on social media, software etc.or bother to adjust their settings...
I know you're going to say that it's people's own fault. However, companies could set the default to OPT OUT of things rather than setting it as giving permission as a default.

The vast majority of the 'spyware' in directly attached to functionality of the product...
It CAN scan messages and email for malicious links and embedded software...
It CAN scan messages and mail for dates to add to your calendar...
It CAN watch what you do and how you search to improve the functionality of Cortana...
All of these features can be turned off, WHILST you install it, you just need to click a word...
As far as I'm aware, the only spying stuff that can't be turned off is the reporting for product performance information.
And if you think that contains pictures of you in your underwear, or MS or anyone else is interested in you musing amongst your mates, then think again. And even If it was, do you honestly believe no one would have found them out by now? Network traffic is NOT invisible, it can be traced and seen.

Thought this might be helpful - from the FAQ:
"The policy is one license per employee per their selected product version (Office or Mac but not both). If you previously purchased Office 2007 or Office 2010 from the HUP program and you still meet the HUP program eligibility requirements you may purchase Office 2013. If you previously purchased Office for Mac 2011 you must wait until a new Mac version is released before you are eligible to purchase again."
So essentially you can buy 2013 today (only 2 licenses though according to the same FAQ), and possibly 2016 tomorrow...assuming this is valid tomorrow.... Think it's worth a shot

If like me you purchased Office 2013 plus Visio 2013 and Project 2013, then this link seems to imply that you can get a free upgrade to Visio and Project to 2016 versions when you buy Office 2016.

bilbob
7 Oct 15#257
Common misconception...
What you can actuallyl do, is buy it, claim it against 'expenses' for the company, but all it actually means at the end is that you don't pay any tax on the amount paid... you still have to pay for it...just out of the company pocket, not the personal pocket...
hobsgrg
7 Oct 15#259
It is a legitimate tax deductible expense, so when you fill in your tax return you include the cost as part of your expenses. So you'd get 20/40/45% of the cost back depending at what rate you pay tax.

Interestingly the HUP FAQs have changed from yesterday and you're now only allowed to install the software on one machine.
(Under 'Products, Licenses & Options') Yesterday (still available in Google Cache):
On how many computers can I install the software?
2 computers, either 2 PCs or 2 Macs, specific to the software that was purchased.
Today:
On how many computers can I install my Office product?
Employees can download and install their Office product on one device.

And I think earlier it used to be 5 machines . . .
Its not just that - when 2013 was released, if you had just purchased 2010 - upgrade to 2013 was free. That wasn't the condition this time.

There isn't any need to pay for the backup disc or USB flash drive. You can redownload the software from the website and the installer for the Windows version of Office 2016 is tiny so you could always e-mail it to yourself or save it to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox etc.

Exactly what I did. Saved a copy of the installer on Google Drive. There is a part of me that worries they will (at some point) take down the install server so the tiny installer will no longer work. But I'm over it.

Please note that even with saved copies of the installer that you get from the HUP website, you will not be able to do offline installations.
You have to be online so that the installer can download the required files from the MS servers.

My company only subscribes to HUP for Office. So have no option to buy Visio or Project any longer. Could I find anyone via web chat or telephone that knew about this free offer to upgrade Visio and Project. Did I hell. In the end got a refund on my Office 2016 purchase as no use if I can't run Project and Visio. Very frustrated.

I think Office 2016 is available free for students.
Does anyone know where I can download an installer which I can selectively install only some of the office programs? I hate the Click-to-Run that install everything on my computer. I tried the one on MSDN, but saying an error of HUP product key doesn't match the installed product. Thanks

Evening all.
I'm after some help if any one would be so kind to ablige.
I have purchased office 2016 using this scheme and have a product key but I didn't get an email with links to download etc.
I have tried to access Microsoft directly to download it but it says the product key is not valid.
So is there a specific link to follow to down load the software or am I just being a little daft.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Just go here and using the email id with which you purchased Office 2016, fill up the form.
You should soon receive an email at your work address, with which you can "login". Once you've logged in, you should be able to click on "Order History" on the upper right corner of the page and see you purchase. Click on the "Order Number" to get an option to download the installer.
cocoguy
1 Dec 15#364
The installer that you download like this would be a small one. Once you execute this installer, it would then download the relevant binaries from Microsoft servers to complete the installation. So you should be online for the whole time.

I never understood this. if your company has office 365 every user is entitled to 5 installs of office 365. you probably only use one install on your desktop and perhaps another on your surface\laptop. this leaves most people with 3 extra Installs to use at home completely free of charge. just login to portal.office.com with your work e-mail address and password to download the Installer. I have licence my home PC, laptop and partners laptop this way. her college also provides 365 to staff so we're covered there as well.
cocoguy
4 Dec 15#366
That's good to know. However not all offices provide 365 login and hence this.
cocoguy
7 Dec 15#367
Also - I have one doubt - do you know whether you can continue to use the installed MS Office when you have left the employer?
I am, of course, asking from a technical point of view rather than legal/licensing point of view.
K13OllieD
7 Dec 15#368
No, as soon as your ex-employer removes the licence from your account your office install will expire... usually within 24 hours.
Each office activation/install is based on a unique key so that they can be easily revoked.

I have purchased a key from the website "licence-activation" for my Microsoft Office 2016, the licence is authentic and at a very low price. Very interesting website that I highly recommend.
Opening post
Use the above URL, please. For some reason HUKD is redirecting to MS Store instead of the HUP site.
Please note that if you go to the deal URL before 7th Oct, you will be able to get Office 2013 only. To get Office 2016, please attempt purchase only on or after 7th Oct. This is as per -- https://blogs.office.com/2015/10/01/your-top-questions-about-office-2016-answered/, where they have mentioned as below:-

Where I'm studying students get free Office 365 Pro.
At the moment I'm still on 2013 with that 365 but I think they'll roll out 2016 sooner or later.
This is HOT as my employer is eligible for this program.
There may Microsoft project on offer too.
Please read this cautionary tale from 2010:

Incorrect,
although the NHS wide Enterprise agreement was cancelled, most NHS organisation now have there own, so if you work for the NHS i'd suggest contacting your helpdesk.
and before anyone disagrees with me, I set up the HUP for the trust I work for.
like trackers/keyloggers/spyware.... as they have in Windows 10
no thanks im sticking to office 97
picture says it all really
Office 2016 looks nothing like the picture you've posted here, it's actually rather good on Mac/Winturd.
You'll receive an email confirmation in just a moment.
ps - what's the name and email address of the company you no longer work for ?
Reason for the question is, the last we checked, it was one order per work email.
Unlucky.
The downside is you can't keep it once you stop working there.
Summary: You have nothing to complain about.
Thanks OP, been waiting for this so good to know an exact date. Still on Office 2007 which I bought while I was a student (and didn't moan about having to pay for, either...) so it'll be nice to upgrade to the latest version.
1) Every body else has to retire later
2) You enjoyed the property booms
3) You enjoy much better pensions (if you were wise when working)
so enjoy the fact that you should be much better off, than the people following in years to come
Life is more enjoyable when you look on the bright side. this isn't a sarcastic comment, it's true and worth taking note.
Out of interest, can anyone tell me if that was a two uses licence? I think I only ever used it once :stuck_out_tongue:
Heat OP!
Thanks
if they have a EWA (or even possibley a o365 e3 account?) they should have the code visible on their volume licencing portal (where they download all the Images of software and get their activation keys from).
just need a valid XXX.nhs.uk email address for the organisation you work for.
(Also if work just uses 2013, can I still buy 2016? and if so can I use both 2013 and 2016 at the same time? - on different machines)
2. If you can , afaik , they are totally different purchases / not upgrades , so you should be able to use both licences on two machines each
If you need more than one copy of 2016 - ask all your workmates if you could order one through their email address , if they don`t want it - that`s how I got my 2013 (long boring story involving forgotten passwords) .
You need a program code and an e-mail address with the company that the code is associated to that MS will send the acknowledgement and download link to.
If I'm remembering correctly from last time.
I understand you can use one copy for two machines at a time, I am going to be the one and try my luck, Admin: please delete if not allowed.
Is there anyone kind enough to willing to share a licence here? Of course i am hapy to share the cost or even pay for the whole licence :-) Thanks...
I hear the new version works a lot like Office does on Windows.
Forgot to PAY IT boom boom!
It's the same interface style you see in Windows 8 and 10. Works really well in Office because it brings all the advanced features forward into view instead of hidden in a nest of menus.
If MS has decided that you need to pay a tenner to get it, that would be a new thing...
On a related note, if your employer uses Office365 then you as an employee can download and install 5 copies of Office (latest version) for free.
So if MS Office is available in Apple iTunes store, you should be able to use it for free - even without using this offer.

Office 365
£7.99 a month or £80 per annum for 5 pc's. I did actually pick this up for £40 (IIRC) in Tesco a couple of months ago from a deal posted here.
I can't say that I do enjoy much better pensions as it all depends on your earnings at that time. I do admit tho' that I paid more into my company pension scheme, than the minimum or whatever the rate was at the time.
The benefits I have now is no mortgage and no car to pay for, I paid cash.
Just think of it, one day you can do the same, lol

Are there any others ways to get it at this price please?
Thats apart from the smell and the wild parties of course
https://products.office.com/en-gb/office-online/documents-spreadsheets-presentations-office-online
Similar deals I know are for some university / college staff members, but it's one copy per person only.
Those who took the higher salaries but didn't save their gains in pensions or money are now blaming.us who stayed in work for 40 years.
It gives word processor, spreadsheets and presentation, only around 60MB download.
It can be tricky finding the right download, the drawback is the free download seems to alternate between free version and 30 day trial of full version, which then nags. You do end up with the same thing at the end.
Thanks dhope!
http://news.softpedia.com/news/destroy-windows-10-spying-updated-with-anti-office-2016-telemetry-features-492613.shtml
"They're are the considerably dumber types"
Watch those stones in that Greenhouse
All the Windows and MS spying stuff is balls. All the 'spying' stuff can be turned off, the only other stuff that is sent back is anonymous performance related stuff. If you don't want that, buy the pro version, and set yourself up behind a properly configured firewall.
OR, just, OR, stop fretting and relax. Unless you really ARE a state sponsored terrorist, then worry. I mean, really worry.
I bet most of the people slating MS for this are using Android too...
#irony....
I know you're going to say that it's people's own fault. However, companies could set the default to OPT OUT of things rather than setting it as giving permission as a default.
You're as good at that as the students are at lecturing
Same strains of pomposity as the students themselves which leads me to hazard a guess you're one yourself :stuck_out_tongue:

So essentially you can buy 2013 today (only 2 licenses though according to the same FAQ), and possibly 2016 tomorrow...assuming this is valid tomorrow.... Think it's worth a shot

The reason being that Project 2013 and Visio 2013 will not co-exist with Office 2016.
This should save £20 if you were intending to upgrade all 3 products from 2013 to 2016.

To everyone: This website is down until the 14th for Office 2016, maybe the date is wrong if it doesn't appear circa 5pm?
What you can actuallyl do, is buy it, claim it against 'expenses' for the company, but all it actually means at the end is that you don't pay any tax on the amount paid... you still have to pay for it...just out of the company pocket, not the personal pocket...
I'll check back on the 16th then.
Could just be it gets released later in the day. It's only just gone 9am PST after all. The day is young :-)

Its not just that - when 2013 was released, if you had just purchased 2010 - upgrade to 2013 was free. That wasn't the condition this time.
