Dubai is great around March / April time, so I was looking for some cheap flights and came across the following on German Wings.
Sample dates used:
> Depart London Stansted 15th March to Dubai.
> Return from Dubai to London Stansted 23rd March.
Found on Skyscanner, book with GermanWings direct for this price.
Flights have a short stopover of around 2.5 hours each way in Cologne, which in reality, once you've got off one plane and onto another will be minimal waiting around.
Note: Includes cabin luggage only, you'll need to pay additional for checked baggage if you require additional luggage, 23kg for £27 each way.

Back on topic... I'll play devil's advocate for a moment:
Firstly - Dubai is, in general, not the cheapest place in the world to go as a holiday maker - if you get that and just want to save some money on the flight to pay for some extra treats or you're just thrifty, happy days.
Secondly this isn't really £179, it's £231 because - again unless you're happy to make compromises and faff around with your liquids etc - you're going to want hold luggage.
Thirdly, it's on overnight flight, on a plane and a carrier best suited to short-haul trips. There will be little recline in the seats, no in-flight entertainment and (I'm pretty sure) you'll have to pay for your food.
Put all that together and you've got a fairly miserable travel experience.
Oh, and it's from Stanstead, one of the more depressing and hard to get to airports in the UK.
You can currently get a flight with Gulf Air from Heathrow to Dubai for a smidge over £300, which lands on the same day it departs. By the time, you've factored in all the variables, the Gulf Air flight ticks all the boxes.
