I have never had to swap out a duff battery. But what's that got to do with the price of cheese?! In my critical line of work, I need my phone on me at all times and cannot afford to sit next to a wall plug. With the external battery kit, I am able to swap out the battery for fresh ones when I run out. So far, I have had to do this every day. So this feature has saved me (and probably some lives too).
I also have a very small child and like to take lots of videos of her in 4K. The 128Gb memory card has allowed me to store hours and hours of video. Without this, and only with the typical 32gb in most phones, I would have missed a lot of memories that I captured on holiday when we didn't have a computer to download onto or cloud to upload to.
Hope that gives you an insight into how this can benefit people in the real world.

It's amazing how much influence Apple has over other phone manufacturers and on Google (Android) too. Apple didn't Flash on their phones and basically killed it off as a mobile application, especially after Google followed suit. Apple didn't want removable batteries and SD expansion. Google goes the same way with its Nexus devices and with each iteration of Android, makes it more difficult for other manufacturers to include SD expansion. And more and more manufacturers are following Apple by sealing in the battery. What set Androi apart from Apple in the early days is vanishing with each new version of the Android OS.

Do you think that people have been sucked into the idea that latest is greatest and best? The Android o/s is fragmented to the point that it's impossible to keep everyone on every handset up to date.
With the (lowering and very quickly depreciating) cost of handsets these days, I don't think it's unreasonable to change every couple of years, so long as you look at a model that's been out for at least 5-6 months.
I think that app devs will be making JB apps for a very long time to come yet - so even though Android itself as an o/s will have moved on, I don't necessarily think that it means that a handset automatically becomes obsolete.
Everyone just gets so fixated with having the new shiny toy - with the latest o/s etc., when in fact an older handset probably works more efficiently and has less go wrong with it.
Just my opinion of course LOL

Cool thanks for that, was kinda thinking the same thing really so you confirmed it. I'm still not sure whether to take the plunge and go for the phone though... Might sit tight for now. The nexus 5x does look good but I personally couldn't justify the additional cost over this LG G4.

14 Oct 15#87
The N5X should have the best camera in the business - it's not about mega-pixels but sensor size, and Nexus has the biggest there
LG bloatware ia a worry - My previous LG G2 was very laggy. Vanilla android on the Nexus will be smooth as
G4 will be lucky to get any more updates after marshmallow - Nexus will be looked after for years to come
32GB is plenty for the vast majority
after 1080p the benefits for the human eye decrease on small screens like a mobile. 1080p is sufficient and easy on the battery
Same processor and GPU

Very torn between either
1) Nexus 5x
2) LG G4
3) None of the above - (try and eek another year out of aging Nexus 4 - with a replacement battery fitted its still going strong!)
If I am going to get another phone then the smart money is on the G4. Its much better hardware for (now a bit less) money. Will get Marshmallow, and chances are reasonable it'll get next year's android (N) version too.
After than I guess just custom roms.
Although the Nexus 5x is reasonable spec, its just not worth the money. 2GB ram, small (non-expandable) storage + worse screen (And probably worse camera) is just too big a price to pay for a fingerprint reader and maybe 1 more official android annual refresh, when there will be be a Android "O" / 2017 custom rom I can manually put on the G4 anyway (and if really lucky then an official rom!)

My Nexus 4 was being a nightmare with inconsistent signal, issues with wifi and dying battery (I'm a developer and have it on charge all day, but it would easily be low battery by 10pm). I did love the N4 though it still feels premium and a lovely shape/weight and decent screen size.
The G4 I got off this deal is something else though, the camera is amazing (important to me) and whilst it is a bit big in the hand it still doesn't feel too big, though I do have reasonably big hands.
The 5x really has nothing on the G4, on paper anyway, and the G4 is cheaper! The nexus 4 and 5 were amazing for their time but the 5x is really sub par for the price and quality. I've been winding the other developers up in the office, who all have the iPhone 6+, the G4 outshines them in almost all aspects apart from build material and sadly general app quality.

For the sake of an extra £9 I think I would rather be dealing with Amazon on goods that they have sold rather than with a 3rd party. I know that Ebuyer aren't a small fly by night, but have heard a few horror stories in the past.

Regardless of the fact the G4 has a Micro SD & a removable battery, I'm really torn on whether to get the Nexus 5x (which I have on order but can cancel anytime) or the LG G4 now that it is more or less the same price.
I prefer the looks of the Nexus 5x which seems slimmer & is lighter & I'm unsure about the G4s buttons on the back. But the G4 has a 5.5" screen, a higher resolution & a fantastic camera.
btw, had a Nexus 5 up until a few months back but it failed, so I'm rocking an Moto E 2nd Gen until I get either the G4 or Nexus 5x. Its ok, but I need a bigger screen & more oomph & better camera.
oh I cant make my mind up!!

I was having the same debate. Nearly went for the oneplus two but I've heard the OS is pretty buggy and although it boasts great specs it seems a bit rough around the edges. Also the fact that customer service seems quite poor and their distribution/production output has exactly been fantastic, seems a bit overhyped tbh. With the G4 now at this price, it's made the decision for me.
Nexus 5x is a huge disappointment, way overpriced for the spec and goes against the previous google nexus ethos (I've previously had the nexus 4 and 5 and would have gone for the 5x if it wasn't so underspecced and over priced) I'm a huge fan of the vanilla android, can't stand the pointless software that HARDWARE companies insist on sticking on the phone, however...
In the end I think I'm going to go for the g4, I've had a little play at local mobile phone shop, the UI seems fairly similar to native google, sd card is a bonus and the camera is meant to be really good. It's also gets 4-5/5 consistently and that was when it was retailing at £450+.

Only from my experience of the LG G3, I wouldn't touch the LG G4! On stock rom it's laggy, battery sucks and gets hot easily. I flashed a Rom which is a copy of the LG G4 Rom called CloudyG32.5 - it's improved those things quite a bit but still not great. The LG G3 has a lovely camera and screen, but LG's software/Rom is pretty woeful & laggy hence I wouldn't touch the LG G4. The LG G3 crashed in price not long after launch which says a lot, no doubt the LG G4 will price crash even more down than this current price. If you don't believe my issues, you only need to google any of them and see post after post of issues. Shame really as spec wise it sounds great on paper, but actual reality is dire.

You make a sweeping statement that external storage doesn't matter, however I need extra storage for music and for videos for my son. I don't have an unlimited data plan or always find myself in great reception areas to use cloud storage. I partly use my phone as an mp3 player in my car and wouldn't want to pay large data bills on my regular 400mile trips to Scotland just so I can listen to my choice of music, when it is more cost effective to buy a 64gb card. Therefore external storage very much matters in my situation. I am sure that your situation is different, however you can't say something doesn't matter and should be a thing of the past just because you don't have any use for it.

Hello mate. I had the invite for one plus and placed the order. Very next day I cancelled my order for two reasons.
1. There is a metal/plastic ring around the fingerprint sensor. After few weeks, the color starts to come off and it looks horrible. Feels like a cheap phone. Take a look on youtube.
2. Grounding issue. If I'm holding the phone in left hand, home button does not work with the right hand thumb/fingers. Loudspeaker is not great as well.

Removable battery doesn't matter these days? But batteries wear out and loose performance over time so unless you want to replace your phone every 15-24 months it does matter. Also the speed of internal storage is irrelevant. I have over 60GB of music on an SD card but it's a far cheaper option than buy a phone with 128Gb of internal storage. Both these things are relevant to many people, and this is why the manufacturers are trying to get rid of this option. They want you needing a new phone every few years.
People prefer when amazon is the seller not just fulfilling the order for returns, 7 day price change and 1 yr warranty on electrical's. Sellers on the marketplace prime or not don't have some of that and can be more difficult to work with.
Can't decide this, oneplus two or nexus 5x 32gb?

Removable battery and storage on the G4, neither of which really matter, and to be honest removable storage should be a thing of the past on phones, that is until it can match the speed of the internal NAND on the phone. Cameras are very close between the S6 and the G4. Battery life is quite poor on the S6, I should know I have one. The S6 has a much more powerful chipset and the NAND speed is the best on any current phone. The screen is arguably better on the S6 too, to be honest the screen doesn't impress me on the S6, it's good but I don't notice it as outstanding. Can you live with the battery life of the S6 is the big question?

You can replace a battery in any phone though, so when it does die and you still want to keep the phone it can be replaced. Removable storage I understand the reasoning behind it, but it ruins the overall experience in the OS. If you can live with that for the extra storage fair enough. Being waterproof is a bonus which the Xperia phones have.

That's fair enough then if that's the case. I just feel burnt big time by the brand and price drop so soon (hence I feel this G4 will drop even further). I had a G3 battery that died on me only the other week that I had to buy a replacement for. I know people who are still using their Samsung S3s from years ago because with a new battery they're still acceptable phones for them. The main reason for swappable batteries though is not for replacement in case for failure but for the instant 'wireless charging' capability that they provide.
When it comes to storage the ability to load a phone with a bunch of HD TV, films and lossless music for time spent travelling is a valuable feature. Taking video in 4k also chews space.

Don't understand how taking away an option is a good thing for you. Enclosing the battery and storage just seems planned obsolescence in the worst possible way. I keep my phones for at least three years and I am a heavy user. After a year I usually find my batteries no longer hold up for more then a few hours. You may like being attached to a wall throughout the day or changing your phone for an incremental increase after a year but doesn't mean others do.

Also, what has NAND speed got to do with external storage where you are only using it to store content. Fair enough if you're talking about using SD cards to run apps off which the speed will become a relavence (though not as much as you make out). Think of it as a PC. You have SSD for your OS and apps but HDD for your photos and videos. Same for the phone. speed means nothing for music, videos and photos if you don't have the space.
Don't let the big manufacturers brain wash you into thinking that they taking these things away are a good thing. They are doing this to maximise profits and nothing more. I moved to LG from a Samsung Galaxy S5 after Samsung got greedy and followed the Apple model. Something I (and I thought they did too) absolutely despised!

There's two main issues with Edge phones, the sloping screen, means it's awkward to pick up as it has a massively reduced surface area to grip a hold of. There is pixel distortion at the edges of the screen as it slopes away. The other issue (so that's three then) is paying more for fashion, and every man and his dog has one anyway.

I'd argue that removable storage and battery are massively overhyped features. When did you last need to swap out a duff battery? Removable storage, well don't get me started on that. Android is laggy and unoptimised enough without mixing in vastly differing speeds of internal NAND and removable NAND. The leather back of the G4 is to be frank excruciatingly bad taste, like a fashion disaster, this is 2015 not the 1960s huddled in a log cabin.
The main thing to consider between the G4 and S6 is battery life. The battery life on stock ROM S6 sucks big time, this made me regret getting the phone, and the operating system Lollipop 5.1.1 is terrible. Lollipop is quite possibly the worst Android release ever. I can't wait to get Marshmallow 6.0 on my phone, which will take until next year I'm sure as EE are useless at getting their act together.

Everyone just gets so fixated with having the new shiny toy - with the latest o/s etc., when in fact an older handset probably works more efficiently and has less go wrong with it.
Just my opinion of course LOL
LG bloatware ia a worry - My previous LG G2 was very laggy. Vanilla android on the Nexus will be smooth as
G4 will be lucky to get any more updates after marshmallow - Nexus will be looked after for years to come
32GB is plenty for the vast majority
after 1080p the benefits for the human eye decrease on small screens like a mobile. 1080p is sufficient and easy on the battery
Same processor and GPU
1) Nexus 5x
The price you found at http://www.amazon.co.uk was £308.46 inclusive of £0.00 standard delivery
Savings: £14.99
Bought the lg g4 on Amazon for 313.99 it was the grey version.
Can honestly say this is the nuts for the money. battery life is great for medium use, camera is awesome. i use Nova so don't worry about the lg skin. removable battery and SD slot are the icing on the cake.
only slight criticism is the build perhaps. that said a good case and you are away
I was so gutted about the 5x, couldn't believe the £379 price tag for 32GB. Ah well, I've essentially had an LG phone for last 3 years with the nexus 4 and 5 so happy to give the G4 a go.....
Does the leather version comes with just the leather cover or normal grey cover as well?
Thqnks.
Can't decide this, oneplus two or nexus 5x 32gb?

Glad people are enjoying their G4's after the shambolic G3
above all has been super reliable. might buy a spare battery because I'm travelling more now.
S pen very useful as well as multi window feature.
Compared displays side by side, note 4 better especially on awkward angles
When it comes to storage the ability to load a phone with a bunch of HD TV, films and lossless music for time spent travelling is a valuable feature. Taking video in 4k also chews space.
Nexus order cancelled and LG G4 ordered along with a £10 quick charger. Well excited to replace my ageing Nexus 4
Only issue is the battery and i greenify everything
I am considering buying a zerolemon 8500mh battery which will solve this problem
The removable staorage is great i keep all of my photos and stuff on it
Don't let the big manufacturers brain wash you into thinking that they taking these things away are a good thing. They are doing this to maximise profits and nothing more. I moved to LG from a Samsung Galaxy S5 after Samsung got greedy and followed the Apple model. Something I (and I thought they did too) absolutely despised!
I highly recommend getting a leather back plus the LG battery kit. Combined makes this the perfect current gen phone! If you're feeling flush, also get the turbo charger. Quick Charge 2.0 on this phone with the turbo charger is awesome
The main thing to consider between the G4 and S6 is battery life. The battery life on stock ROM S6 sucks big time, this made me regret getting the phone, and the operating system Lollipop 5.1.1 is terrible. Lollipop is quite possibly the worst Android release ever. I can't wait to get Marshmallow 6.0 on my phone, which will take until next year I'm sure as EE are useless at getting their act together.
i was thinking most if not all phones are made in or assembled in china?
any thoughts please
