Got mine today, perfect condition ex-display for £294. Seems good thus far, battery life doesn't seem excellent which is my only gripe.

The Asus spec looks great. Would like that spec and the start up features but with a touch screen. Any recommendations ?
Thanks had a look however they dont have a FULL HD screen at that price of 449 , they have a 15.6-inch HD (1366 x 768) Truelife LED-Backlit Display is that enough?
the specs however a good just the screen?

Go to dell UK site and look for this one,NEW! Inspiron 15 5000-Series 5559, £449.
Windows 10, 6th Generation Intel Core i5-6200U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.80 GHz)
8gb mem, 1TB hard drive.
Far superior to anything mentioned here,
A direct link to Dell doesn`t work.

I think a 2.7Ghz dual core i5 seems fine for the price, especially since it wouldn't be used for gaming...

4GB RAM is ample for the basic needs described, honestly. An SSD would be a far far better buy than additional memory.

All i5 are dual core when using on-board graphics, can only get quad with dedicated graphics which pushes price up considerably!
Ordered this yesterday for £294 labelled as damaged box but perfect condition. With that saving I'll buy another 4gb ram, so I'm pleased with the deal I got.
No point looking at M processors unless you are willing to spend at least another £100.

i had the same issue, what to buy for internet browsing only and ended up with a Toshiba chromebook CB30-B-104.
it has 4gb ram and a full HD 1080 screen, with up to 10 hrs battery life and silent with no internal fans. It is amazingly fast on start up and works well as it has no other programs to load up that you never use. Think about a chromebook?

They are low performance parts designed for battery life rather than performance - they have similar performance to second generation (i.e. Core i5 2xxx) 'M' parts.
There is nothing wrong with them, you just need to know what you are buying and why  If you want a laptop that is as thin and light as possible, with as long a battery life as possible, they are great; otherwise get a 'M' version that's slightly heavier and thicker, and you'll find it has much more performance.
