£354 for a direct flight on BA (Finnair codeshare). Good find.

Smuggle a Microsoft Surfacebook back and you can make the flight cost easily. :sunglasses:

You can if you throw the box away. Otherwise you have to pay import taxes and what not.

Honestly wouldn't book this just because it's with Expedia, their customer service is beyond terrible, should anything happen you'll be in for a nightmare. Just look at the anger on their facebook page.

Better deal with direct flight from £324.26 @ skyscanner.net
Anyone actually know how much sales tax is in NY ....so eg a 64 GB iPhone is $749 = £490 ......which even with sales tax added @ 10% (looks like 8.875%) ....is way less (approx. 80 quid) than the £619 it costs over here.

The state tax is 4% and the city (county) tax in the city of New York is another 4.5% and then there is some weird municipal tax of 0.3% so it comes in at just under 9%.
If you want tax free take the train up to New Hampshire or down to Delaware

How are you going to hide the serial number if they ask to check it?
I had to answer lots of questions from Customs at Glasgow Airport last month. Only time it's ever happened to me and that's despite me having little luggage and being well under the £390 limit.

You just say you bought it in the UK from Gumtree. I mean can they prove you haven't?

I can't imagine they'd ask many questions about a single unboxed tablet.

And I mean can they even check on a system when/how/by whom it was purchased? I doubt it very much. They can probably only check if its a US model or not.

I suspect the layout of the keyboard would give it away! You would also have an US power adaptor to hide. It's unlikely that they would stop you anyway.

It's up to you to prove where you bought it, not them. Virtually everything like tablets etc have serial numbers on them somewhere which shows them what they need to know.
I have been over the limit numerous times and have never declared, mostly just clothes though. That last trip was the first time I had been pulled and plenty of others were being hauled in as well. Not sure why but just be aware if you are thinking of bringing home several iphone's etc.
