I don't really know what tyres to get for my fixed gear bike. I commute a lot on it, sometimes hitting 25miles each day just commuting to work.
I want a set that's good for tarmac, wet or dry, and extremely tough to handle a bit of woodland (small rocks etc).
I've got flip flops but maybe someone can suggest good rims to go with it too?

I would be cautious of these. As a member of a club we have had a number of side wall issues with the 4000SIIs. The originals did not show the same problem, but there have been at least 5 or 6 instances of the side wall breaking down and blow out punctures occurring on the new ones.

i had a similar issue with 2 gatorskin tyres (same manufacture) never had an issue previously then 2 x side wall blow out, 1 and 64kph.

Interesting I've been riding various generations of these tyres for years and had a side wall fail only last night. Following a couple of other failures I was beginning to wonder if these tyres are still what they once were in terms of durability.

Thanks for the advice which has put me off a purchase...i currently have the standard Grand Prix's and have been very pleased with their performance.....I appreciate there may have been a "bad" batch of the 4000S 11s but a sidewall blowout could cause a serious injury so I will avoid.

Say it aint so. That's a bummer. Never had a problem with the previous ones...well I say never...
I remember a pair I had of the 25's. I always check the tires well before I put them on and noticed that the thread was showing through in a number of places. Such poor QA for it to appear on two tires. I grabbed a pair of the older ones that were going cheap in 23's (like £25) before they stopped selling them, and now I'm glad I did.

Bizarro. I had original GP4000's last for thousands of miles. Fitted these new ones about 2 months ago and have just had a rear sidewall puncture as well. Just bought a new one but if it goes the same way I'd be looking for my money back...

Just bought a 25mill set of these a couple of weeks ago - did a 130mile ride and no problems (compared to my previous couple of rides where I'd had punctures), so cautiously happy with them so far!

Good price on the GP 4S tyre at wiggle too, at £29.14 - it's rare to see them under £30.
And who really takes a spare tyre with them these days? If you're a tourer, you won't be using race rubber.

Been riding durano s tyres for the last 7k miles, all seasons. Not a single puncture with them [Touch wood]

Cheers, just ordered a set for next summer.
Also ordered the Gatorskins as also a great price for winter miles.
Run the GP4000s this summer and so far have done nearly 3,000 miles. 2 punctures total due to large stones rather than thorns, etc, so pretty happy with them. Great performance off them too.
You should put that as it's own deal...that's hotter than the deal I found a few weeks ago on them for £17.50 each (free delivery)

Schwalbe Durano, my recommended tyre of all round choice. Nearly as sticky as the One, but super tough. There is no need to buy these race tyres, I've done the snotty race tyre route, and I really can't tell the difference between the One and the Durano, and never had a puncture with the Durano (2 sets) during my mix of commuting and sportives, all year round. If you race, then fair enough, but for all us MAMILs, no need.
PS. don't sweat about the wire bead, again, you won't notice the difference once fitted unless you're obsessed with weight.

Really great tyres for commuting - only had one puncture and that was a quite hefty shard of glass so I let them off.
Just make sure they have plenty of air in them to protect from pinch flats too.
