Cello have an agreement with Hisense to supply SKDs to them for assembly in the UK.
Hisense are pretty much the Chinese Vestel, an absolutely massive company operating at the cheap end of the market. That said, I have found products by Cello to be more reliable than most of the cheaper stuff; Brian Palmer (head of Cello) has run his businesses like this for 30+ years, believing that the main problem with Far-Eastern stuff is build quality, so he does that side himself (Palmer was previously head of Hinari and Akura in the 80s/90s).

Was it like that out of the box, or did you have to fiddle with it?

Well I have a Grundig TV - think I got it in Currys' (no worries) about 10 years ago. It is greyish silver and it aint got a HDMI bit at the back. If this TV goes I will be gutted as the sound is amazeballs. I know at some point I will need to replace with all the flat screen stuff but to me they all sound like a tin can.

Had a Cello a few years back when M&S sold their TVs with 5 year guarantees.
Failed around year 3 (probably the inverter) and got a full refund as M&S had pulled the plug on that business by then. So mixed feelings on Cello - it was a solid (if basic spec) performer until it met its maker.

Hmmm, I have one of those sets as well. Given what you've said, I'm now hoping for a failure before September 2017, so I can get a free TV for near 5 years lol.

HDMI 2.0 is the necessary criteria for 4k TV. Otherwise its a rectangular bit of trash! When people learn to mention it in the description??

I have a Cello tablet and quite impressed with it. I know its nothing to do with a TV, but it's my first Cello purchase and I have nothing bad to say about the brand.

20 quid off with which? Good look cancelling, abysmal customer service, ended up having to cancel my card to end rip off subscription.

Cheap but very limited as a 4K display. Uses HDMI 1.4 so you're limited to 30Hz from a PC, no smart features and not HDCP compliant for external devices.

I would have thought that all TV's with HDMI these days would be HDCP compliant.
Smart features can be added with a cheap Android TV box.

I just don't understand why companies persist in building tellys with woeful support. Does HDMI 2.0 or HEVC etc really cost a great deal more; is there a suspended unicorn tear at the heart of every 2.0 port?

Eugh, now it's a hot deal. It's your money, go for it.

Also at this price point as MBeeching points out there will be some significant compromises.
