This bike was posted a few months back on here at £400 and did quite well.
Ive just ordered it as i tried it out yesterday in store and was happy with it. After researching for past few weeks Ive gone for it. As for the money and spec it seems really good value.

Sign up for Decathlon rewards aswell for future savings.

That £60 could get me a seat that doesn't cripple me after an hours ride
So far I have got a decent front light to get me down the canal path at night, 600 lumens is just about enough but I think a cheap import for the helmet soon. The rear for nows a £2.50 LED/Laser one off eBay that works well but I wan't brighter for on road use at night.

And I don't do the skin tight cycle shorts so I got the padded under version, still cripples me on that bloody seat though!

Only thing I have on it at the mo is a pair of V12 copies as I can't deal with being clipped in, you do not slip off V12's ( I was advised V8's but the 12's have sealed bearings so less work needed in the long run)

I throw drinks in my backpack until I get a bladder for the right price to fit in it and as of yet have not won an auction for a good U lock :disappointed:
At my age and weight you need to stop and get your heart rate back below 160 before having a heart attack requiring an air ambulance if you are lucky enough to be found!

Not been out on it for a few weeks as we all got colds so riding was out the window!

The Decathlon MTB helmet was a poor buy as is has elastic instead of a dial adjustment so it's crap and hurts after a while.

Also still looking for better tyres and a pump as I just have patches and gas cartridges at the mo.

Brakes are good but noisy so maybe pads soon, read up on bedding them in as I think I got it wrong, I should have got them hotter than I did, same as a car slow bedding in is wrong, cook em and ride them cool a few times.

Buy a shock pump, the decathlon ones spot on for under £20, Also the track pumps good for under £15

My order has got to the same stage it did last time (so past 'registration', 'confirmation', 'preperation' and is currently at the 'loading' stage). If they cancel it again, I'll push for a similar deal as soso12 as it's really quite poor customer service, but let's see if they ome up with the goods this time!

Just saw this in Decathon Giltbrook today. Bought one for my wife when it was £400, and that was a steal. I just can't justify one for myself.

It's a beautiful bike. Total bargain. The groupset is a quality Deore/SLX mix, the air fork has an adjustable spring rate (great for my 5'0" mrs - just get yourself a shock pump to adjust), adjustable rebound damping, stiff 32mm stanchions. It's not the lightest mountain bike in the world, but every single component is built to last. It's even got a chainstay protector and little rubber sheaths where the cables might rub against the frame!

You might need some pedals, hers came with SPDs with some adaptors. I swapped them out with some DMR V8s I had lying around.

It's a shame to see they also had this year's Rockrider 560 - it's got 650b rims (ooh, fasionable) and a bargain bin fork, what looks like a rebadged low end Suntour, for £500. Wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole.

I got the SPDs no adaptors - shop built.
Also some say they got lights with the bike. I didn't get any lights! :disappointed:
How about the others, did I get short changed?

Rather ridiculously, despite being told by Decathlon customer service that this was the end of the stock, and it would never ever come in stock again, and despite me being signed up to receive stock alerts and never receiving anything. This is BACK IN STOCK according to the website. I've placed and order and will see what they say...

I got the rockrider 580 in the end, paid the same price as the 560. I had 3 orders for the 560 confirmed, then canceled and wasn't very pleased with Decathlon customer service for a while but after a few phone calls we finally sorted it out. The rrp for the 580 seems overpriced to me as it isn't much of an improvement on the 560. I'm waiting on a shock pump to be delivered tomorrow so haven't tested it out properly yet.

I know £190 more, I'm more of a leisure rider, so probably stick to the 560, and avoid all the hassle of changing it. I didn't see the Rafal + when I saw the RR for 339 went straight to it as it's really good deal.
But through the cycle scheme I would have saved around 1/3 so it would have only been approx. 130 more for the Rafal :disappointed:
But can't go wrong with the RR560, got brilliant reviews

There seems to be an older Rockrider 560 with 27.5 wheels and a Suntour fork and the new model 27.5 which has the ROCK SHOX XC30 fork and Deore gearing. My understanding is that I would be paying the same price as I had for the Rockrider 560 with 26inch wheels. I'm also 6'2 and kinda caught between the L and Xl size, but I think i'll go with Xl.

the forward/backwards position of the saddle has nothing to do with reach. the saddle should be positioned so that you can pedal comfortably (as a very rough guide hang a string with a weight on off your kneecap with the pedals horizontal and it should intersect the axle of the pedal). stem length should be adjusted for reach. Be careful though shorter stems can make the handling 'twitchy'
chrisbass

that sounds like really bad advice

it is much easier to make a small bike bigger than a big bike smaller

I'm a bit confused - the one you link to say its the 560, but has 580 in the URL.

Then there's also this one:

Which is a 27.5 version of the Black 560 for £500. But has worse components (Shimano Altus front derailleur, different forks etc).

Their website T&Cs say the following

Generation of an order confirmation e-mail means that Decathlon.co.uk has accepted your order, which will then form the sales contract between the Parties.

But then goes on to say:

If an item ordered is not available, Decathlon.co.uk reserves the right to cancel the order, in which case You will be notified accordingly.

So it seems like they've covered there backs... We'll see what they come with.

29 Oct 15 #111
Yeah, I emailed and got a stock response saying that although they try to keep online stock levels accurate, they aren't always. But still, you'd think actually checking stock would be part any of the 'registration, confirmation and preperation stages' that my order has already gone through...

Apparently that's going to be the last of the stock available online. There is stock in a couple of stores but obviously it's hard for me to go and pick them up, and they are all at the £399 price rather than the £340. (Although at this stage, I'd happily pay the £399 for it!).

I've emailed them again saying that even now my order status says 'Your order is confirmed. The products of your order are being supplied.' which definitely implies that, well, my order is being supplied!! We'll see what they come back with.

Other option is to try and pick something else up in the sales after Christmas, but even then I don't think it would be as good as this deal.

Ordered the bike on Sunday, and it went through the 'registration', 'confirmation' and 'preparation' order stages fine, only for me to receive an email saying that the item was out of stock. Gutted! I live in Afghanistan but am coming back to the UK in a few months and was going to bring it back out with me. I've signed up for announcements for when it comes back in stock in my size - but if it ever does I'm not sure it will be at this price.

The rings are for the lights. The small one
For the small light and large for the front. Instead of trying to explain it you will have to do what i did and check the light manufacturers website and its got some pictures on there, that will help somewhat. You will figure it out!

But you take the seat off on the rear to fit and it's a bit of a fiddle and seems really tight fitting but it's right.

good call with the stickers on the tyres - I've taken them off and the stickers on the shocks too (I wish all the stickers were removable as it'd look great in just black).

embarrassingly I have to ask - how do they actually fit on?

also - any ideas what the two random rubber rings are for too?

it looks like DMR V6 are the most popular 'proper' pedals - where's cheapest for then and are their any other recommendations for a replacement saddle?

thanks

I didn't find the seat uncomfortable, probably because my old bike was the same or slightly worse, so you definitely get used to it.

23 Oct 15 #101
You will need the shock pump, and as for the light, it opens by turning the lens to the left until it clicks, it is as simple as it gets, led on a breadboard connected to a 3v battery so you should be able to adjust it, if not they will swap it in store.

shocks like tyres will lose air over time and should be inflated to match your weight so they work properly, as it stands they come set low for shipping as they have to factor in being flown increasing the internal pressure like bags of crisps on a plane!

the stickers are still on mine for now but I did have to push them on when I got the bike so I can't see them leaving much of a mark that you couldn't get off with some lemon juice or isopropanol.

I wonder how the new riders backsides will be after 10 miles on that seat

Yeah will come in handy that fiver off for accessories. Stickers came off easy and didn't leave any residue. Those stickers are little too busy for me. Mine arrived, adjusted and got out for a short ride on it. Really like it, although I did almost hit the back of a van when I was distracted by the possibility of undoing the fork lockout while jumping off a kerb!

I see what you mean about the wheel stickers, did they come off cleanly? Nothing I hate more than removing stickers and having a sticky mess left behind!

The front light of mine doesn't seem to work, when you push the button forward it comes on and then goes off, seems like a lose connection. Not sure I was going to fit it anyway but I will probably nip into Decathlon at some point. Have a £5 voucher to spend anyway, might get the £15 shock pump, although not sure I need it?

For those talking about gel covers for the saddle, can I recommend THIS from tesco. Really comfy saddle but doesn't look like it belongs on a fat granny's bike! Also I find the gel seat covers tend to slide about too much.

If you're going offroad mostly then yes. If however you are going to be doing a lot of on road as well as a bit of gravel / paths / light offroad, then you may want to consider more of a touring / adventure bike. The Genesis Croix de Fer is more expensive but an incredible do everything bike.

The forks are half the price of the cheapest £100 for the RS ones on the 560 so the Halfords are cheap rubbish.
Brakes cost less so a better on the 560 due to the make.

Good price. I got the Rockrider 520 a while ago (It's currently £10 less than the 560) and it's been a decent bike. The 520 is known for an issue with the chain skipping/slipping. My local store sorted this out first time around (replaced the entire rear wheel assembly) under warranty but unfortunately after about 14 months of having the new wheel, the issue has started happening again.

I took it into store the other day in the hope they'd replace the wheel again but the team were clearly rushed off their feet and arranged for me to come back another time. We'll see what happens!

Go about half way down for the MTB size guide.

Im 175cm so in the M/L bracket but having tried both went for the M

My height puts me right between the large and x-large. Without bring able to try one I have ordered the x-large. How have people with experience of btwin found their sizing? I know the my previous bike I favoured a slighter larger size.

13 Oct 15 #27
I spoke with Decathlon as i was in the same situation as you. They advised sizing up and you can also shorten the stem and adjusting the saddle to assist.
GoNz017 to smant
13 Oct 15 #35
Get XL, I am 6'2 and have the seat post at it's limit to have my leg with a little bend as it should be with the crank arm down.

I may get a shorter stem at some stage but will move the seat forward again before I commit to that.

Looking for a decent size guide to add here to help others.

Having trouble with phone though.

Is this comment in relation to the bike itself or badge snobbery - just asking as I'm ordering up now.

Estimated delivery is a week, so not gonna get on it this weekend. Unless they bring it forward. Hope so. Be good to get out with my little one as well.

Ah great so you have choice. I only had seen people mentioning previously about using the scheme with Halfords. Upto you then eh. Decisions Decisions.
marathonic
12 Oct 15 #23
A lot of companies restrict it to Halfords but mine allow any bike shop. I actually sourced a few Planet X road bikes over the past number of years through the scheme but am bored with the roads

12 Oct 15 #21
I've been considering taking up mountain biking and had decided to wait until next years Cycle To Work Scheme comes around to buy cheaper.

What I'm now wondering is, am I likely to save at all by waiting until March and getting 25% off through the scheme or is this deal good enough to bite the bullet now?
mivanpy to marathonic
12 Oct 15 #22
Well this is was a decent spec for £500 so presuming you see something of same value, with your 25% off that would be £375 this is £340 so on that basis this would be a better shout. Out of interest where can you use that discount. Halfords?

Also please remember to get decent locks if you're planning on leaving this out in public! On Sunday I came back to my bike (which was locked in the city centre) and the poor guys on the rack next to me were on the phone to the police- having had their 2-week old bikes (worth over a grand in total) stolen. They'd locked them together using a £4 combination lock. Oops!

Get either two of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AW7P7JK

or one of the above plus a thick cable lock for your front wheel. It's recommended you spend at least 10% of your bike's value on locks.

Seat that bad?

Like the idea of padded shorts for underneath though  good shout. I use a excersise bike alot and could have done with some of those. duh.

Thanks for the advise on the V12's ill get some of those. As i asked the guy yesterday instore and he said he would swap them out but as im getting online ill end up with those small clip in pedals.

Thanks for tips on other stuff, truly appreciate it.

Ps get well soon! That seat is missing you.

I visited four or five Decathlon stores whilst in France this year and was eyeing this up. Instead I went and upgraded my old MTB (spent out on Friday just gone). Had I known this was being reduced I would have bought this instead. Kids have the RR 340 (daughter) and 500 (youngest son) and the bikes are fantastic. My eldest is currently thinking about their entry level roadbike, the Triban 500 SE.

Stunning spec for that price, premium components all round, I paid that for a 2nd hand bike with some lesser components.

Buy a shock pump, the decathlon ones spot on for under £20, Also the track pumps good for under £15
GoNz017
12 Oct 15 #3
Damn, I paid £399 so am rather bitter at the further price drop. It was worth the £399.

It took a lot of fettling to get it right as the setup at Decathlon is rubbish, I had to ask for the tyres to be pumped up to ride it home!

Read your comments on previous post. so glad your happy with your purchase. Getting it delivered so hoping its gonna be easy to set up. Like you i now need a few accesories. Lock ,helmet ,pedals, drinks bottle and clothing could get pricey .

Got any recomendations?

Plus dont be bitter, you would never buy anything if waiting for reductions. main thing is your happy with it!
