I have always been an apple fan even thought prices are high but can you get this model cheaper anywhere else new?

£700 for a laptop with 4GB of RAM? Is this a joke?

You know, I gotta say. people like you keep chaitng the mantra "something that will last me years". Just what exactly do you mean by this? How will a windows laptop that has arguably the same or better specs from 2012 not last longer? What do you think happens to non apple machines? Do they spontaneously combust? Do they develop cracks on them over time? Do they radiate so over the years they run out of atoms and what's leftover is just half a laptop? This logic just baffles me.
Any laptop, unless misused, from a specific time will last just as long as the other. This seems truer for macs as well, all you can do on them in most cases is watch youtube, browse the internet and send emails. Also when I say watch youtube, obviously I mean tread carefully on 1440P and 4K videos as macs don't seem to have a taste for flash.
Don't get me wrong, I have about 9 macs but really (and I am not criticising the merit of the bloody machine) but this reasoning apple-defenders have completely eludes me. It's like we all know you're trying to say "look, I would rather pay more for a prettier machine which will be shinier longer" but why you put on this facade of utter BS is anyone's guess.

This can take 16GB which may cost £60-70 from third parties but the issue is that this is still a 2012 laptop. I love OSX but even lean OSX will start to feel a little tired on this hardware soon.
You can plug in a 2.5 inch SSD also but you will bottleneck at about 500MB/s. The latest, less upgradable laptops are now coming with the M.2 SSD's running at 1200MB/s.
This was still a great laptop for it's time but it's time has passed. (I'm typing this on one :-) )

Depends on what you want from a laptop. I prefer spending big on something that will last me years rather than upgrading every couple of years when my laptop lets me down. Since I switched to macbook the difference in quality is clear, even if I did have to spend big.

Sounds like Zavvi has some really old stock, OS X Lion?
Probably hard to find new anywhere else.

OK, fair points, but where can I get a NEW Macbook that can still run the latest OSX reasonably well for under £700? I'm actually asking the question, it's not rhetorical, I need a new laptop and have a budget of £660-ish, and it should be as well built as a Macbook Pro, with useful touches such as the safemag AC connector that ensures I don't ruin the powercord OR the laptop's AC socket (traditionally both of these have ALWAYS been weak chains in the laptop link that both lead to catastrophic failure, either of the board the socket is soldered onto or ruining the expensive battery when it cuts out many times a day - even just havjng to replace the power adapter at £25+ a go is a problem) AND more useful new stuff like Thunderbolt? Where can I get that for £660? (I have a £30 voucher and saw a seller doing these for £690 with 10.10 Yosemite) Can anyone beat that before I pull the trigger? Please don't be shy!
I was looking at those aluminium Dell ones that cost almost as much as the Pro, but they still aren't anywhere near perfect, with more failings than the Mac, so what do I do??

It's been fully community driven since 2012. They are awesome! I keep the blog going though :-)
