Seen this while browsing Scan, pretty cheap for a CPU cooler - might be worth a punt if you are after something no frills.

why what's it done wrong?

Looks excellent value what with being a 12cm fan. Looks like the heatsink is slightly offset so may be helpful in clearing tall RAM modules.

Gets slated on burying the copper pipes into a thick aluminium base (if you look at every other design you will see these pipes getting as close as they can to the cpu) and flimsy retention mechanism completely undoing the rest of its design. Guess you get what you pay for - but performance in both cooling and the noise from the rpm needed to keep cool does not do well.

I have this in my system, it performs really well, specially for the price I paid for it (£10). it runs near silent, (though I do have a bequite silent 800 case.) and cpu temperatures usually sit around the 30degrees for my 4690. You are usually looking at paying atleast £30 for this level of performance and noise.
One thing to note, this isn't the easiest cooler to install while the right side is clear, the heatsink makes it difficult to access the left side so I would recommend installing the heatsink before installing your motherboard inside you case.
Edit: Ran the Cpu-Z stress test and temps went up to 50 degree, and fans do get noticably louder, but that's not bad, compared to a stock fan.

Not sure I agree you pay £30 for this performance as at under £30 you can do significantly better. The coolermaster hyper 212 evo, has been, considered the class in this field and scan have it at just over £27 (I also wouldn't buy from scan buts that's a different debate). Compared to this, under load, the coolermaster at low rpm (1000) cools better than this performs at its max rpm setting. The discrepancy at top RPM, under load, came out at over 12 degrees. Yes, the coolermaster is a lot more than this and yes this may be a step up from the default cooler supplied (hugely so for those with AMD Stock fans which are ridiculously noisy) - but if you are going to take the time and effort to strip your machine to fit this then I personally would spend that more on something better with more scope.

Nice price for the class and it won't cost you the first memory slot. You may want to upgrade the default fan if overclock.

Maybe he means it looks like it's not that great of a cooler, not the aesthetics. I'm sure you'll see an improvement over a stock cooler so it looks decent for £5 but if you're intending on overclocking you probably should just spend the extra £15 and get a 212 Evo.

Cost me £10.48 and I have Scan free delivery - but still looks like a good deal. I think the Hexus free delivery thing only applies to orders over a certain cost.
