I did consider the Xiaomi as in the top 2 to 3 and it was a difficult decision. I knew about the excellent sensor but by the time I would have bought the extras such as the waterproof case, the costs would have mounted. I also didn't want to be totally reliant on using my iPhone as a viewer. Like most things in life there was 'fors' and 'againsts' and I made what is hopefully the right decision for me. Time will tell. I am still tempted to buy the Xiaomi next month but being the economist that I am and careful with money; at this point it is not a necessity:-).

I've just bought the Kitvision Edge SD10 which comes with a waterproof case, a few attachments and detachable LCD back. Very pleased with it. I had previously bought the sj4000 and sent it back due to a 'white screen of death' and poorly made switches that were sticking. Although around the £107 mark, the quality of this is far better.

It's good to speak about something you don't know anything about. Xiaomi camera has terrible image quality. All blurry, no detail. Good 720p video would be better than what xiaomi has. SJ4000 has good iq.

I'm sure you are right, honestly, and I tend to pay more for quality, but not everyone can afford to spend 205% on things.

There is a market for a product at different price points.

I have one of these. It isn't great tbh. I used it on a mud run on Sunday and although it never went under water it fogged up inside the case very quickly. Ended up having to take it out of the case just to use it each time. It's ok for a toy but if you actually want decent footage then even for £20 it's pretty useless.

I guess scuba diving ain't your bag!

Also, keep in mind that the depth rating on a waterproof case is essentially referring to the sustained pressure that it can withstand. So if you jumped off a high dive board with a camera case that has a 10m depth rating, you'll probably far exceed the pressure rating of the case.

Having a camera enclosed in a dive case rated to 60 metres means your camera is far more likely to survive whatever you throw at it :smiley:

Exactly 105% more, if you budget for the camera is £20 you are spending 100% (rounded) of that on the Aldi camera or 105% more of your budget for the Xiaomi which is 205% in total.

I'll leave that then was hoping to go down and film the Titanic with it.

I own a "Xiaomi Yi" cam. Its very good... But I had to replace the lens because my model was made without an IR filter. Also I had to refocus the lens because it was originally bluey. So as much as I like it, it was also a pain.

Oh... And its not made by Xiaomi, just sold on their store. So everyone uses their name now. Like saying M&S Goodfellas Pizza.

That X Yi deal is questionable. I'd much better recommend going through a company such as Amazon, raising the cost further - you then need to buy the waterproof housing as well.

Not saying it's not a better camera, it obviously is. It's just not really comparable to a £20 spend in Aldi.

FWIW, I think the Aldi cam looks like tat. Probably serviceable as a dash cam or to play around with, but not if you're after an 'action cam' that you want decent footage from.

Spend the money on an SJ Cam, which I have and is great, or the X Yi, which looks like a very good and more recent option. GoPro is the leader if you want brand assurance

I had one of these and it lasted about a week.

Xiaomi Yi looks good. Never heard of it. Personally use a Möbius Actioncam as its very discreet to use as a dashcam.

But that X Yi, 1080 60fps is pretty awesome for the price.

I don't know much about these cameras but one thing is for sure, pixels doesn't mean a thing in terms of quality.

Why spend £20 on something that'll give you utterly forgettable footage, when you can spend an extra £20 on something that has video quality rivalling the GoPro Black editions!
The Yi camera really is remarkable for the money. It also has WiFi/Bluetooth for remote capture/playback.

This Aldi camera is just such a false economy.
