That is just so wrong - everyone knows you've got to give each one a lick to find the best ones.

are u kidding me? The bakery products tastes like actual bread it was supposed to be not a sponge you get in others, The Lidl infact has probably the best in-store bakery products from all shops out there, Maybe If you have lived in UK for whole life and have used to this Junk Crap every store is selling you just think its normal! but when you come from different place, there's simply no competition.
Glad there is Lidl in this country because all of the other stores just sell total untasty Junk food!

yes that's right sadly I work there and worked the bakery last year but the poster said they make them fresh like a baker unless I've mis-read it

I think they might come in frozen and then are cooked on display in large ovens next to the bakery.. At least that's what happens in the Borehamwood one..(Not sure about the frozen part) but they are baked in store and then dumped straight into the baskets to sell.

This is the most general point of view I've ever heard. How do you compare an entire nation's food? Local cuisine I get, but when you are talking about supermarkets it's much of a muchness.

Worst instore bakery products of any supermarket. As usual biased reviews towards the budget stores

It's the only reasonI go to Lidl and I have all the big chains near me too.
The one near me is actually fresh baked in store instead of fresh baked off-site, frozen, sent to store and then defrosted like the big chains.

no matter where you buy food, you can be sure that someone will have had their hands on it. Even the poshest resteraunts have staff with filthy habits. I think lidls croisants are nice, and value for money. all you people who are squeemish about self serve food, have a look at the salad bar in morrisons, the bakery in tesco and sainsburys , even marks and spencer has a serve yourself bakery, all open to people touching the produce. Remember that an average dish of salted peanuts on a bar contains traces of 26 different peoples urine, on average.

it is actually terrible that you guys eat that crap and are used to it... I have been all over europe and the food in UK is the worst, even in small poor countries the food is miles better!

Terrible that we live in a country with so many crap stores that sell food you don't like

Unfortunately don't live close to a lidl, but can confirm these are much better than other supermarket croissants. Also gave some to the French people who I work with and they liked them! I'd say on par with Waitrose croissants..
Yes unfortunately I did once see a chav/scruff/idiot handle bread, drop it on the floor and put it back.
No different to stuff I'm sure happens in the salad bars at Morison's / Waitrose etc..

Is this in their bakery section where you help yourself?
I was in there a few weeks ago & saw two men touching/squeezing the produce before buying anything and then they didn't buy the things they had their hands all over, that's why I avoid these things, people are vile

Thats disgusting! People need to be a bit more considerate towards others. I'm not judging their hygiene as I don't know whether their hands were clean or not but to be honest it doesn't matter. You shouldn't touch them unless you've paid for them. It's as simple as that.

Thats why I don't buy from the bakery. Esp as many of my local Lidl customers are on the filthy side!

Anybody who work there know what the ingredients are? Wondering if they're made with butter.
yrreb88 to OB1
15 Oct 15#25
They are labelled as "all butter" and they're straight croissants so I'd be pretty sure they're made with all butter and no vegetable oil/fat or marg etc.
The next step is a taste test.

hi deb8z, i wouldn;t disagree with you. personally i have never seen any warning signs at the bakery counters for customers not to touch bread, etc with bare hands, etc, and sometimes you even have to ask for the tongs as they seem to disappear on a regular basis.
wokinpark
15 Oct 15#21
you do realise that most food has been touched by human hands somewhere along the production line ? salad, vegetables, fruit, meat, fresh bread, fish, etc ? i've never heard of anyone coming down with food poisoning or salmonella, mad cow disease, etc, from eating fresh(ish) bread but what do i know ?
deb8z to wokinpark
15 Oct 15#23
I know but when you actually see Adults & Children touching bread etc in a supermarket it puts me right off :stuck_out_tongue:

15 Oct 15#19
i've seen people poke the bread rolls, etc, in Sainsbury and Morrisons so it's hardly new ? Lidl croissants are brill, esp at that price, wait until they get a new batch out of the oven and the warmth and aroma is worth it even if you don;t buy them ! :innocent:

15 Oct 15#20
Exactly, that's why I don't buy theirs either :innocent:
