Good researched deal, would give staying in Patong a miss though- for anyone not been its like Benidorm but a lot worse.

Fatal Exception to casablancas
20 Oct 15#31
Patong is crazy, I'd say it's worth it just for the experience. Bangla Road is like nothing I've ever seen before (both in good and bad ways). The beach itself at Patong is awful (too many Jetskis), but there's plenty nearby and attractions all over the place with transfers available.

Afraid so, Phuket has some nice areas but Patong really wasnt for me, lots of go go bars, clubs, European foods etc.
Suppose its really down to personal preference, spent quite a bit of time in Thailand over the years do Muay Thai and travelling so been around quite a bit of it.

It's not my personal preference either, I'm going in March and I'm stayin in karon which is just outside Paton, we prefer something a little quieter but not too far out!

I've done these places. Krabi is not worth 5 days of anyone's time, and Phuket is Thai Ibiza. Phi Phi is the best thing on here. I booked my own flights and accommodation and had 3 weeks around the man destinations in Thailand (inc flight from Bangkok to Krabi for about £1300 in total on what was a medium budget. So yes this is really cheap but you are basically just seeing the party destinations, but it's hot if you are up for this.

Me and the Missus really liked Chiang Mai, nice food, nice people. Phuket was ok.Some nice hotels and quite a fun place. Went to Pattaya (not on Blue Skies itinerary) a few weeks ago and thats worth a visit. Not half as bad as I expected. Gave Walking Street a miss (too dodgy). Stayed at Rabbit Resort (nice retreat on Jomtian Beach). Lots of great cheap food. Been to Bankok a few times. Its ok. Find a decent Jazz Bar and relax.
Post has got to be given heat for sheer effort and the fact that Thailand is a great place to visit.

Krabi is fine, it's quite a small and laid back beach town so not like Phuket resorts. Railay beach is a short boat ride and there's other excursions if you want to break out. However, Khao Lak about an hour north of Phuket has much better beaches.

I enjoyed Krabi the most. Yes, it's quiet but there were so many idyllic beaches and islands nearby and longtail and taxis were cheap.
Phuket is fine if you don't stay in Patong Bay. Karon or Kata are better choices.
Also, if you do a Phi Phi island tour - pay extra and go on a private tour cos those cheap ones are awful.

I tiny bit. But they HATE crumpled or marked notes. Take clean £20's and you'll be fine. If you use an ATM they charge over 3 quid PER TRANSACTION (if you take out 100 Baht or 10000)/ Plus your bank will charge you at least 2% and probably more. Cash is king there.

What you on about, Thais are not bothered with the state of your money (Burmese are). The thing that annoys the market stalls is the large 1000bt notes- normally go into 7/11 to change for smaller notes.

First went to Thailand in 82...and Phi Phi island only had a few monkeys on it...it was stunning....went there in 2014 and couldn't believe how much it had changed...and not for the better...Phuket has the usual farang strolling around with girls(or boys) at least half their ages...grotty and seedy is the best way to describe Phuket(and Pattaya) now.
