Mikeyfive well who knows what you have been doing as every review, every analysis, whether purely scientific or based on real-world use has proven beyond any doubt that Alkaline batteries are a commodity, they are totally generic and the only real variation in capacity etc. seems to come from different batches.

Ten Duracell AA non-rechargeable alkaline cells for £3 is NOT a good deal. Don't be fooled by the simple, plus etc. monickers, they are more or less identical to eg Wilkinson own brand (8 for 95p last time I checked), Kodak Xtralife (6 or 8 for £1), etc. etc. etc.

This is NOT a hot deal, you have been sucked in by a brand and become loyal to it, Duracell is one of the greatest masterstrokes of advertising of all time, it's not just a similar product but 4 times the price, it is actually an identical and in some cases inferior product.

Unless the Duracells are 8 for £1 it is not a hot deal. Sorry OP and mikeyfive but this is COLD.

Obviously 1p more expensive (lol) but these are always available for £3 in Poundland.

Please note this is for the Duracell 'Plus Power' batteries & not the Duracell 'simple power' batteries which are always on sale in Aldi by the tills

ALDI and LIDL's own alkalines are cheaper per unit of energy according to Which?

I tried all those cheap alkaline batteries after reading how great they were in several posts on here.

Duracell are miles better.

good price, especially for the aaa, remember you can get the AA Duracell industrial version used to be called procell for between £2 and £3 for 10 at any time they are the same as the Power Plus versions.

Check yourself. Poundshop 'Kodak Xtralife' are best value.

Kodak batteries run out miles quicker than Duracell. I use them, they suck.
They might be cheaper but I'd prefer my headtorch didn't run out in the middle of a job / run.

Should have also said - OMG it's in Aldi/Lidl, it must be a bargain..... NO.... In fact it seems that these "special buys" are getting more and more expensive compared to normal/equivalent products.

What I found particularly surprising is how much the capacity declines between the high discharge test and the lower one. C (the capacity) drops from about 2Ah to 1.3Ah for all the alkalines but stays up reasonably well 3.3Ah to 3.0Ah for the two lithiums. I would always try and use rechargeables for high discharge situations, but if you had to use primaries in a high discharge situation then you are getting 2.25x the life out of lithiums than alkaline! In fact, lithiums are actually >2.5x better if you start looking at the Wh capacity - the voltage for the lithiums holds up a lot better than for alkaline. I suspect they will do even better again in very high discharge scenarios (e.g. can openers or camera flashes)? If you were in a mission critical high-discharge situation then lithiums are the biz!

What those results mainly suggest though is just how similar most alkalines really are - which tallies with my own experience. I never pay more than 20p/AA and although I don't often find the big brands at those prices (you do sometimes get Duracell or Energiser) I do at least always try to buy from reputable sources as I wonder if some of the big discount chains are actually clearing duff batches or knock-offs?

Two brands not on that test list are B&Q (which always seem to work reasonably well) and Halfords (which someone made a best buy last Xmas and which meant Halfords completely sold out!). Looks like Ikea might be really worth checking out though! I also wonder if the Screwfix big packs might be too?

Not voting on this deal. 30p/cell seems reasonably cheap for Duracell but is more than I'd pay!

Seems IKEAS are the best value for money, 10p a cell and outlasting all other Alkalines, only beaten by Lithiums. I can vouch for them as well as i use them and they last as long as any Duracell, Procell, Duracell Industrials I have owned.

Any one any experience of the Maplin AA cells? I used to use them in my handheld Garmin GPS whenever I went sailing as they seemed to last most of the day compared to even so-called decent Duracell ones.

OP I think this is a great deal 10 Duracell batteries for £2.99 hot for me.

Duracell are the best batteries by far, I've been using them for years, they always last longer, ALWAYS!!! It's not about being fooled by the brand, it's about being able to depend on them. Voting hot, thanks for posting...
