I've voted hot because it's a good price in the here and now but can I add my twopence worth please?
I bought a one of these generic Chinese made mowers from a large DIY chain, I got four years or more out of it before it stopped running, I suspect it was the carb but could never prove it because no-one woujld look at it. The reason they gave was that because the parts are generic and unbranded even if they found the fault they couldn't get the parts to repair them so in fact they could charge me for spending time diagnosing the fault but still couldn't fix it, in short it wasn't cost effective from my point of view.
They all said that fix machines they haven't sold but they need to see a Briggs & Stratton engine or something similar so that they know they can get the parts.
So, I'll get to my point, buy this at fifty quid and it's worth it for a year already, any longer and it's a bonus, get the four years or so I did and you're on to a winner but just keep it at the back of your mind that if it packs up after a little more than a year it might be difficult to get repaired.
Just sharing my personal experience without trying to sound too preachy!

Engine/chassis looks identical to the Tesco petrol mower last year (£62.50), mine is still going strong after a year. This is an amazing buy, if you can find them.

Or just clean the carb. People often leave the fuel in over the winter and it gunks up the carb. Quick squirt of carb cleaner and you're back in business

I purchased one of these last year at this price.
Absolutely fabulous and makes a meal out of my lawns.
Don't think about it at this price, if you can get your hands on one it's a no brainer!!!

Bought one of the Tesco ones 18months back for £50. Cuts better and has a larger collector than my McAllister (Briggs and Stratton) engined mower. At this price its a steal!

Most lawnmowers have temperamental turns. A bit of fiddling usually gets them going again.

How annoyed am I? I went to my local Wilko, the shelf was bare but they kindly rang to other local Wilkos and found one. A 10 mile drive later, I pitched up, the mower was brought out and then scanned at £100. The store supervisor wouldn't budge. Just kept saying that different stores have different pricing. Very annoying and so I had to leave empty handed. Grrrr!

We had one just like this for £49.99 from Argos, it worked brilliantly until my father borrowed it and slammed it in the car boot breaking the petrol cap, after that it fussed starting every summer when we brought it out. I'm sorry mower, you were a great buy.

worth pointing out the problem with spare parts has been solved by eBay. I bought a no name generic from b and q about 3 years ago and have needed spares. I simply dialled the part in and got a second hand scrap part for a low cost. obviously you need to be happy doing your own work and using spares, but realistically the labour cost and a new part would often be more than the original cost.

It's is a trade off really I can understand somebody buying one of these they are cheap. Having fixed lots of petrol mowers (all b&s engines) it's handy being able to buy the parts and there's lots of info about these engines because they've been around for a long time. My experience with those Chinese engines hasn't been too good so there is no way I could recommend one to somebody who isn't good at repairing no matter how cheap they are.

I'm a plonker but not a complete plonker! I did all that but to no avail-it was like a step back to my youth when we were always tinkering with the carbs on our mopeds and the like. Not being one to throw away if someone do something with it I left it outside my house and a mechanic took it away, if he got it going then good luck to him, I had my money's worth.

Spark plug possibly? Though if you were wise enough to clean the carb then I'd say you'd have looked at it. 4 years is a good run really I got one cut :stuck_out_tongue: though I bet we are on copies of the copies by now so the quality must really suffer.
