Venture out of the tourist areas and into the residential streets for the authentic Blackpool experience, the sights are rare and wonderful, I have many precious memories from my visit.
Where else can you see toothless people sitting on worn-out sofas outside their houses drinking Special Brew at 10am? Not to mention the tremendous variety of litter to be spotted entangled in the long grasses that overwhelm the yards of unmaintained council houses. 10/10.

Blackpool should be surrounded by TNT and blown up.
It is a filthy, disgusting, chav filled hole!
It attracts the dregs of society and you really are taking a chance going out in the evening as the streets are full of tanked up, coke filled morons or orange painted slappers looking for a donor to fill the next pram and keep them in benefits for another few years.
It has been going down hill for years but that decline was fuelled by landlords who decided that they'd rather have DSS lodgers 52 weeks a year than holidaymakers for 30. It meant they didn't have to keep things quite as tidy as they would if trying to attract people who had a choice and the downward spiral gained even more momentum.
Scrotes had a choice of staying in the big city slums or moving to the seaside. They chose the seaside.
The only place where Sports Direct has an evening wear section.
No thanks.

It's grim up north. Went to Blackpool on a stag years ago and witnessed a lovely stabbing in the pub. Highlight for me was seeing an A board outside a promenade shop exclaiming 'We sell fags + poppers!'

Lol im glad i don't live in blackpool, unfortunately though living in fleetwood the only decent cinema around this area is Odeon in Blackpool. I don't know whether your from blackpool yourself but theres nothing good about blackpool sorry to tell you.

Was in blackpool the other week for a nostalgia trip while up north. Illuminations were poor compared to decades ago, but the best ones were north of the golden mile where they still had some of those old story boards by the side of the road. IIRC there are a few daleks and a tardis at the end (towards Fleetwood) where the best ones are.
Pleasure beach now charges to enter even if just wanting a walk around looking at the rides soaking up the atmosphere! There were massive queues to get tickets to enter the place and no price list outside so left it. Apparently they started charging for entry after loads turned up with their own food/drink using it as a picnic area so they weren't even making money off them for food/drink if not going on the rides.
Still got be the best seaside resort of that type (promenade attractions with plenty going on for adults and kids). Even still has the 3 piers on the golden mile.

If you can get a Travelodge or Premier Inn, it's cheaper still. Not a Blackpool fan as it is pretty grotty, but we always go to the Illuminations. We go mid week, as soon after the end of school as we can, and it's always quiet.
It's a shame how so many seaside resorts have gone down the nick. As another poster said, landlords prefer to rent to dhss, which lines their pockets but brings no money into the towns. Morecombe has gone the same way.

Don't bother with this, go through Expedia. I've booked a B&B based just behind the Tower. For 2 nights for a family of four, during our children's half term for £90. £90 for 2 nights!

I went a few weeks ago with my wife and two daughters mainly because they'd never been. We stayed for 2 nights mid week to avoid the stag and hen parties in a really good guest house called the Aspire right next to the tower and had a good time. We did the tower, Madame Tussaud's, the show Cats and saw pretty much all we needed to. Pleasure Beach was a complete rip off so we left that. Two days was enough, seen it, done it and will probably wait another ten years before I do it again.

Blackpool Illuminations get worse every year there is nothing to the lights this year, just the generic crap lights that have been there for years. If anything there is even less lights this year. The only night that is busy is the friday nights as apparently there is a fireworks night there has been for the past couple of weeks anyways as everybody seems to use odeons car park so you can never find a space.

I took my kids, 2 of which are mid-teens, to the Pleasure Beach over the summer. Day trip mind, didn't stay over. My kids are theme park junkies and rated the rides higher than those at Alton Towers and Thorpe Park. Added bonus was the short distances between rides. Other parks require soooo much walking.
We never ventured any further so can't comment but as a day out for older kids it was great! Much cheaper too.

I don't live too far away but always stay in St Anne's for Blackpool events. This hotel isn't great for families as it's literally underneath the very noisy Big Dipper roller coaster and near some pretty scubby bars. Agree that the illuminations aren't that great now, rows of boring and repetitive lights and advertisements and collections / street traders. Maybe if they ever finished mending the tower it might look better!

Many fond memories of Blackpool from my childhood. It did go seriously downhill but you can see significant improvements have been made since.
I don't think I would pay to stay over in Blackpool but it's a fun place for young children (who don't care about parts being old or run down!).
The climbing wall looks great fun as well;

We normally get the £35 a night premier inn rooms, plus breakfast £8.75 a head and children free.Four of us at an all you can eat for £17.50.So a family room with breakfast for £52.50,lights and fireworks are quality.

With respect, Blackpool was one of, if not THE worst place I've ever been to for tourist reasons. Dilapidated, cheap, and dated. Such a shame, but I felt I should warn anyone looking to go that it really is worth missing out on. There are so many better places up north. :/

It certainly has - in the last 4 years the council have spent £100 million on the promenade and they are trying to shake off the stag and hen do image over the next few years. It does look infinitely better, there's obviously a lot still to do and there's still plenty of grotty streets once you are away from the seafront but it's a massive improvement.
