Good deal. You'd be surprised how many 600mbps power plugs surprisingly seem to use 100mbps lan, these are gigabit so no immediate bottleneck on that front, plus a great price for a pass through pair!!

Can someone let me know how these work? Do you just plpug them into the mains or adapter then attach a ethernet cable from the router into one, does this then transmit the signal through the mains and I can plug the other in my room and attach a ethernet from that to my computer? Is this effectively wired internet but without using wires all around the house?

Would these work with TP-Link TL-PA211 AV200 Mini Powerline Adapter.

I have file server > Powerline > Router > Powerline > Fire TV and I get stuttering when playing 10GB+ videos, and think the powerlines are the bottleneck as the File server and Fire TVs are Gigabit.

I clearly need to connect one to the file server, bu what I can't suss is whether I need to put the other directly on the Fire TV, or on the router. I am thinking it's on the Fire TV I need it, would be interested in real world benchmarks too but couldn't find anything on google.

How are these Gigabit (1000Mbps) if they're only 600Mbps?

If I'm understanding correctly; that's what I'd be doing to avoid using the Wireless on the Fire TV. However, only one powerline needs to be connected to the router, this should supply all devices connected to powerlines IPs via DHCP.

Something to consider is your home wiring, whether you're connecting them via a ropey additional socket or through an extension will lower the powerlines performance. I also find that when my central heating kicks in the ~110MB/s drops to ~5MB/s, this is only temporary but very noticeable depending what you're doing. Not saying this will happen for you but electrical interference can be a factor.

I've resorted to connecting my homeserver by a powerline which is a known good link if you will, it's not suffered any issues so far. The office is connected by CAT5. I have no issues streaming HD files that are similar in size from the homeserver, via the router a stretch of CAT5 and a switch in the office using BT Flex 500s.

In terms of benchmarks you can simply copy a few files for a quick test but there are programs on the web to test speeds between devices.

Thanks for the response Fruity, I really meant that I wondered what the benchmarks are for this kind of powerline in the deal, if they're significantly higher than mine are performing now then I would take a shot at them.

I also made my mind up that my initial assumption was right that it's the powerline next to the fire tv rather than the router which i need to upgrade as well as the one by my server of course

​Yes he could do that with a spare router, make sure you switch off DHCP and make sure the IP range is the same as your main router.

don't see the point in 600mbps as most broadband connection are much less than 100mbps anyway.

Dont forget megabits are not megabytes, Mb/s and MB/s .. 600Mbs is 75MB/s, even then you will never get the full quoted speed. Mine (devolo) suffer slightly from being in socket-adapter-adapter but nothing too dramatic.
I have one which has three ethernet sockets and it works as a switch hth.

I have 200mb 10/100 on network powerlines and i cant download and stream 1080p at the same time. Will i see a huge difference with these powerlines?

Hi Friends...i have seen couple of posts on thise but never got chance to understanding it properly..Is my understanding right that this is to boost the signal strength if the router is one room and u dont get enough signal ? or is this to increase the speed on what you get at the moment?

Secondly; i was thinking to have a ethernet cable in my bedroom aswell as in my living room as i have 2 tv. Can this be used as a solution were i can have powerline in bedroom and router in living room. Then connect ethernet cable from power line to my tv....?

Sorry, I am still not sure how to use these. One plug - into wall socket then the router power socket plugs into it. Second plug - into another wall socket where the wifi signal is weak. Is that it? There is a 'built-in' router in these plugs and does not require a 'slave' router? Using the ethernet cable directly to the computer is only optional? I have seperate electric rings upstairs and downstairs, is that okay to have them plug into different ring circuits? Sorry for so many question, many thanks

I'm not sure if separate ring mains will work.

With these adapters you plug one into a socket near your router and then connect an ethernet cable from your router to the the adapter. Then you plug the other adapter near the device you want to connect to and connect an ethernet cable from the second adapter to the device.

If you want to extend wireless range you need to be looking at a different type of adapter.

Could you suggest one that has a 'built-in' router on the second adapter - ie does not require ethernet cable to connect between the laptop and the second adapter so it can go wireless? Good budget one, or what keyword(s) should I be looking for if I was going to search myself? Thanks.

just be aware they may be 600mbps between each other, but the actually ports may only be 100mbps so you'll never get the 600mbps speed. :man:

Edimax HP-6002AC - 12MB/s

Power consumption [each]:
Trendnet TPL-308E2K - 1.1 W
Edimax HP-6002AC - 3.7W

I expect better speed with Edimax. I tried to connect 1 Trendnet with 1 Edimax and both working without problem.

is that 12 megabytes/sec transfer or megabits?

true - however doesn't mean people always write the correct way :smiley: Ideal world we'd be referring to everything in mebi, gibi and tebibytes, which would then stop people complaining on hard drive deals about the 'actual size' of the drive which is always corrent in terabytes but not in tebis that pcs report
